View 1 RepliesI have a string that searches the Twitter API, for keywords, for example :
var url:String = "http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=Robin%20&lang=en&rpp=100";
I also have a input textfield dynamically created:
var inputField:TextField = new TextField();
addChild(inputField);
inputField.border = true;
inputField.width = 200;
[Code]....
But how do i take the data from the input text field and add it to the string, keep in mind the input data has to go in the keyword part for the string.
Allright, i receive a string and want to convert it to object. here a test that i have made:
[code]....
this work pretty fine... but i am receiving the object property as follow: "{a:'test',b:'testAgain'}" How can i easily convert it to object properties?
I am wondering if it is possible to convert an Object name into a string anf then remove an element from the string so I am left with just the number I can use and pass as a variable. This is a stripped down version of the code
[Code]....
I need to get the value of the item clicked and the name of the columns.
for each(item in colunas) {
var itemok:String = item.dataField;
Alert.show(''+datagridlist.selectedItem.itemok); // show value of column
[code].....
I'm trying to turn an string into an instance name.
stage.focus = ["box_"+[i+1]];
this gives me back = box_2;
but I need it to be an object not a string.
In as2 I could use eval. How do I do it in as3?
In AS3, I want lo load a file text with URLLoader. In the file text I have the following string: {a:1,b:"string",c:["one","two"]}
Is it possible (once loaded) to convert it to an Object?
so I have a variable containing a date object. I want to convert it to a string in this format: dd/mm/yyyy. How could this be achieved?
View 2 RepliesTrying to write a function that will play a sound through a small FX (sound) class I made. The sound that I want played is passed in through a variable. I don't want to write a different function for every sound, so I've named the sound linkage class the same name as the name of another object in an array. However, it looks like I'm trying to pass the name of something off as an object, which won't work and I'm getting this error:
TypeError: Error #1007: Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor.
Can I convert a 'name' into an object (of the same name)?
The solution should be straight forward but I cannot find it, my problem it's that I'm reading a xml, and one of the properties inside the xml it's a Bitmap path(string), when I`m reading this xml I would like to convert this string to a Bitmap Obj so I can use through my MXMLs.
View 4 RepliesI'd like to easily convert a string of say "dog=Sam&cat=Garfield&mouse=Cheese" into an object of strings.
The object would contain the variable "dog" equal to "Sam", its variable "cat" will be "Garfield", and of course "mouse" the string "Cheese".
There are a number of ways to parse this, but what is the simplest way? I know when you use a URLLoader object, you can give it a dataFormat of URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES and then it automatically converts the data into an object.
how do convert the myString var which is a string to the class name?
var myString:String = "movieClipInTheLibraryClassName"
var t:myString = myString()
I want to take the following information, which I have as a string in Flash, and convert it into an XML object in AS3:
// information
<list>
<a>

I'm creating a CMS(Content Management System) tool so that users can change text and the changes be reflected in a text window in flash . The text that the user enters in the CMS tool will be stored in the database.
In flash I want to parse the string that I get from the database and look for URL strings that start with http "http://www.someurl.com" and parse out that substring.
For example the string could be "Please vist my site at http://www.site.com". I would want to parse out the http://www.site.com
If I find this url string I want to pre-pend the a href tag <a> and append the closing </a> tag to the string so that this link will be clickable from the textfield.
Does flash have an object that deals with Regular Expressions? I've looked at the String object in flash but not sure how to achieve this task

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to convert an variable that contains XML data to a String. Anyone have a clue on how to achieve this?
My main problem is that the XML data is formatted nicely, but I need to store it in the database without the linebreaks and tab stops and whitespaces.
I think converting it into string would work with .toString();, but that doesn't get rid of the XML formatting...
Code:
function f_choosePhoto(photoNum)
{
var photos:Array = ["photo0","photo1","photo2"];
[Code].....
I've cobbled the AS together from a couple of seperate tutorials, and if I replace "new this[path](560, 380);" with "new photo1(560, 380);" it works.
I want to simply some repetitive code like this:
letter1.gotoAndPlay(Math.round(Math.random()*letter1.totalFrames));letter2.gotoAndPlay(Math.round(Math.random()*letter2.totalFrames));letter3.gotoAndPlay(Math.round(Math.random()*letter3.totalFrames));
I want to store letter1... into a string array. so I can call all of them with a loop.
Been searching for a simple way to do this but it's not out there, or is it?
I simply need to convert a sting to an int. The string will be a number, that is a given.
So I am trying to take an XML document, load it in, then organize the elements into an array of Objects with the elements nodes as the properties of each object.All of that I am able to do so far.What is the real problem here for me is when I try to take one of the properties and try to assign it to a dynamic Textbox's .text property.I can trace the object property, but it will not go into a textbox.[code]Also, I noticed that when the code hits the first output error, it never executes the rest of the code in the changeQuestion function; or else I would have gotten more than one output error.

View 5 RepliesI have an array of string values that represent accessors to another array. I need to be able to use those to access the secondary array, so I need to find a simple way to convert the string to the actual array accessor.[code]...
However, it seems like there should be some way to cast the string into AS, that Flash can use to access the proper array, without having to do the complex string.slice statement.
Something like: var str:String = ActionScript(arr3[i]); would be much easier to type, as many times as I'm going to need it, than the .slice statements.
It is possible to converta string to a name?want to make a text to speech project that plays the sounds by name and i use the charAt function to split the text.[code]...

be a really obvious question but does anyone know how to convert input text to a variable?At the moment I have a textArea component and want to make the user's input text a variable so I can use it later. can get a trace on the input text with "trace(mytext.text)" but I just don't know how to make it a variable
View 3 RepliesIs there a way to write a UTF-16 string into a ByteArray in Flash/AS3? Basically I have a string (var test:String="allan"; for example) and I would like to write that into a ByteArray with UTF-16(LE) encoding. In this case it would be "61 00 6C 00 6C 00 61 00 6E 00".
I've tried using utf16le.writeMultiByte( clipText, "utf-16" ); but it just comes out with what appears to be UTF8 (or just straight ASCII given the test string).
I need to convert a string such as "x*y+2" (from an input text field) into an expression x*y+2, so that it can be evaluated normally, eg f=x*y+2. The variables x and y are already defined and can have various values; I need to evaluate the strings as expressions.
I have tried f=Number("x*y+2") but it seems to work only when the string is actually a number such as "1.2e-4".
Is it possible to convert a string to hexadecimal? For instance I have a string that says "Hello World" I want the output to be 48656C6C6F 576F726C64
