Actionscript 3 :: FDT : Warning - Could Not Resolve Variable (may Be An XML Element Name)
Oct 19, 2011
I'm getting some warning signs in FDT in a couple of lines of code that access values in the app descriptor, like this:
var appDescriptor:XML = NativeApplication.nativeApplication.applicationDescriptor;
var ns:Namespace = appDescriptor.namespace();
var appId:String = appDescriptor.ns::id[0];
var appVersion:String = appDescriptor.ns::versionNumber[0];
Those lines work fine, but FDT underlines "id" and "versionNumber", and issues the warning "Could not resolve variable (may be an XML element name)".
I have 2 methods in a actionscript class.[code]I get duplicate variable warning. Is the local variable scope not limited to the method. Can't I declare same name variable in multiple methods?
I've nearly completed my first ever game audio assignment in Flash but have one small error that comes up every timeThe error is: "Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 431Warning: 3596: Duplicate variable definition."The code is as follows with the offending line in bold:
Code: //If the score is greater than zero if (so.data.score == undefined || score > so.data.score)
I'm a very new user to AS3 and I'm attempting to migrate a site from Flash CS3 to CS4 on a Mac. I keep getting the following compile warning: "Warning: Actions on button or movie clip instances are not supported in Action Script 3. All scripts on object instances will be ignored." This is very confusing to me. I thought that scripts could be attached to both frames and objects? Is this a bug that is a result of switching from versions? Or is this warning true; and I have to abandon all uses of attaching scripts to objects on the stage?
Also: Can anyone illuminate me on the keystroke to call the actions window in AS3? It is supposed to be the F9 function key and another that I can;t locate on my keyboard!? As I said,I'm a very new user, so be kind!!
Description:Warning: 3596: Duplicate variable definition.Source: var _loc_1:int = 0;Loading swf file results in:ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property _loc_3 not found on om.flashloaded.media.player.MediaList and there is no default value.
Code: var disabled = new Array('RB0','RC0'); for (var j = 0; j < disabled.length; j++ ) { var d : MovieClip = getChildByName(disabled[j]) as MovieClip; var tween:Tween = new Tween(d, "alpha", Strong.easeOut, 1, 0.25, 2, true); } // Fade disabled
In this case I have only two elements in the array but in fact I will have 70.I get the error on tween:
Warning: 3596: Duplicate variable definition.
I want only to apply the tween not store it in a tween variable.
I've recently switched to CS4 and AS3. There is a couple of nice features in AS3. However,the more I do hacking (certainly you can't call it programming) the more frustrated I'm with AS3.Here is the most stupid thing I found so far.
Put this code in: for (var i:Number=0; i<10; i++) {
I'm seeing that here's how I need to write a for loop: for (var i:uint = 0; i<10; ++i) { trace(i) }
However, when I go to make another for loop using "i", I get an error saying "1151: A conflict exists with definition i in namespace internal." and another saying "Warning: 3596: Duplicate variable definition". My assumption then is that I can only use "i" once in a for loop? Blech. Alternatively, I found that the old way of doing it (below) works just fine in AS3 and I can use I in multiple loops till the cows come home.
How do you set a variable attribute of a xml element?This is what I expected to work:xmlElement.attribute(variableAttr) = "the variable attribute is set to this string";
However, I'm getting some error that this value can only be retrieved as a reference and not set.Ofcourse, the following does not work either as it will look for the attribute named "variableAttr" and not for the attribute named after the value of the variable variableAttr:
I am trying to retrieve the element I added to my UI in a different function. I am using actionscript 3. I know I can put the variable into a class variable, so it can be access anywhere in the class, but I have too many elements. Is there anyway I could access them without putting them into class variable?
Code: public class Test extends SkinnableContainer{ // private var image:Image; <-- I try not to do this, too messy
This is probably something very simple that I just can't seem to get to work. Basically I'm trying to use a variable to be called inside of an array instead of the actual array so a simple example would be
Code: var people:Array = [john,tom,ann]; var selected = john; trace(people[selected]);
I get an error everytime I try to use a variable in place of and actual element
type_elt is not an element name; it might be <single>, <multiple> or something else, determined at runtime. How, given this, can I detect the presence of the opt_out_flag element?
I tried this (where xml refers to the question element):
if (xml.*.opt_out_flag) { do_something(); }
but even in cases without opt_out_flag the above expression returns true. Obviously I'm missing something, but what is it?
i can just split it into two lines, but i'd like to know for curiosity's sake, how or if i could do it in only one.[code]i'm basically trying to take an element from an array (which is a point), normalise it, and set another variable to the resulting value, without modifying the original array element.using the code above, i get a null value returned. what could i do differently to make it work as decribed, without splitting it over multiple lines. is that possible ?
I'm using a Coldfusion Dreamweaver template with cfinclude tags. The header contains a flash movie where I'd like to pass 2 variables via a query string to load the correct image and menu button based on the variables in the ActionScript.
pic variable can be 1 - 3 and button variable can be 1 - 7 depending on the each pages body element id. So the logic would be something like this for my flash movie:
if body id =home, then pic=1 and button=1 if body id =about, then pic=current variable and button=2 if body id =page3, then pic=1 variable and button=3
[Code].....
What's the best way to pass these variables depending on the current page body element id?
I know that there is no such function as getElementByName in Flex but I also now that you can do this["object_id"] to get the element of the application u're in.What about getting an element inside another element?I've tried making element["id"] ? But in my try-catch it always runs the "catch" part..how do I get an element inside another element just having it's id in dynamically created string form?
I have flash where there is a link for song download. And, at the bottom of the flash I've a count, loaded thorugh flash vars which should increment everytime donload button is hit. Please let me know what approach should i take to do that. can i call a Java method on donload button which will insert a row in the table and and then get the count and render it to the count variable in my flash?
May be this extremely confusing. Here is a very similar example on how it is done. This is actually very similar to what i want to do. [URL] on this link there is count below which increments you hit the download button.
I have Input Box named lets say "input". I have a button also. So, when i click button, i want to do something with my input. Problem is that AS my input send to other variable in this format:
I've built a rather robust tooltip class recently that attaches and draws a single tooltip sprite to the root, then uses MOUSE_OVER to detect when it is over a tooltippable object, and shows the appropriate tooltip text. At the moment, I'm ensuring that any elements in my application which wants to take advantage of showing tooltips implement the ITooltippable interface, and expose a public getter, get tooltip().
Basically I have 14 text boxes, each box draws its content from an external txt file. Next to each text box is a button. I want the button to be either visible=true or visible=false depending on weather or not the text box has content or is "undefined" Here is what I have so far, and it's not working:[code] I would like a FOR loop to just run through the variables and check to see if any of them are undefined. if it is, then make the correct send button invisible.
I'm using CS4 and encountered an issue that I can't resolve when using the controller. When an audio file (MP3) is on the timeline, I hit play on the controller to listen to audio but when I hit stop, the play head stops while the audio continues to play. I also noticed that when scrubbing the timeline you can't hear the audio.
Has anyone encountered this? This issue doesn't happen in CS3 and since a lot of my work deals with syncing graphics to narration I have to go back to CS3, which I don't want to do.
I am getting the following error - I have googled it and can't seem to resolve the problem, upon debugging the movie it says that it is on line 9 - so can anyone let me know what is wrong. I checked all of the buttons and they have the correct instance names.

I am using flash builder 4 to run sample application from "Getting Started with FLEX 3", but the code can't run because there is one place that FB4 can't resolve, I guess this is because the library has been obsolete but after a tons of search I can't find the solution.
I got some movieclips which contain instance name class in flash.ex: mc_1, mc_2.My problem is I get incompatible errors TYPE while clicking on each of these MCs Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.[code]
i created project with flexmojos maven archtype..i used flexmojos:flexbuilder and compile/run with FlashBuilder 4 everything is okay but when i try to compile project with flexmojos i got following error: ERROR] Z:....srcmainflexMain.mxml:[6,-1] Could not resolve < fx:Script > to a component implementation.INFO] BUILD FAILURE
