the problem is that in flash/air string consist of utf8 characters, so indexOf will return value different from offset of "string" in a byte array (actually it's zip archive)
Actionscript 3 :: Finding A Sub-string That's In Between Two Other Sub Strings
Jan 14, 2012I'm creating a flash application, which loads a file from a server, and stores it in a string. I'm wanting to find the substring within that string, which is inbetween two known substrings.
Note. I don't want to do this with reg-ex as i'd like it to be easily reusable.
Ideally I'd like a function which i can re-use, by passing the beginning and ending substrings.
e.g. something along these lines..
function getSubString(start:String, end:String):String
Edit: There may be more than one instance of the 'start' and 'end' substrings within the string, i'm wanting it between the first instance of each.

Aug 23, 2008I have a dynamic text field in flash that is populated by an input box. The dynamic text field has a maxmium width it can be. So i have it as multiline WITH wodrwap on. My problem is that I have to send this data to server and for the php to be able to text the text and output the text as it is displayed in flash. There seems to be no way of finding the linebreaks and passing them in the string as far as I can see?

May 25, 2010In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.

The above call requires a username to return a track listing so if I hard code the username into my class like this.... var username:string = "aidanmack" No problems the call works... if I make that username equal to a dynamic text box string that has "aidanamck" typed into it..
so something like... var username:string = mystage.textbox.text
the last.fm api wont except this... I get user does not exist But if I check the call with the charles proxy Flash is defo sending the username "aidanmack" So I wonder if its to do with have how last.fms api interprets the string?

I know how to do this and it semed to work fine. STEP2: When the JPEG is loaded I would like the substituted Text to Fade In over the JPEG. The JPEG should also fade in before the Text. Dec 2, 2011I have an Object which stores pairs for a find and replace that I perform on up to 1500 Strings at a time.The Object is populated with pairs using a method that will accept a String and then store this as a property with the value being an automatically assigned base 36 number, like this:[code]nextShort returns an automatically incremented value being the subject of .toString(36), so running the above a few times might make _pairs look like this:[cod]ehowever in my mind I foresee a massive problem in a case where I might want to "shorten" 2000+ Strings and the _pairs Object has at the same time has over 500 pairs.That ends up being 1,000,000 iterations all up which obviously doesn't seem very efficient at all.
