Jun 10, 2011I have a pipe delimited string "Y|Y|Y|N|N". How can I find the position of first occurrence of N using code after processing the string.

View 1 Repliestranslation API for Flash that can return multiple translations/definitions for a single word.
e.g.
fantasy = fantaisie, fantasme, imagination, cration
etc.
I've managed to find a few that do one word conversion. Including APIs that use Google Translate as a backend. But can't seem to get them to work so that they return alternative translations if available. The web-based PHP/JS/etc. APIs seem to offer this, but haven't found it in Actionscript yet.
In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.

What is the simpliest way to find an occurance of some sequance of bytes (string) in a long byte array?
UPD: I tried to do
my_byte_array.toString().indexOf(needle_string);
the problem is that in flash/air string consist of utf8 characters, so indexOf will return value different from offset of "string" in a byte array (actually it's zip archive)
I've read some documentation about regular expressions in AS3. I was wondering if it is possible to check every word of a string for a pattern. If all the words satisfy the pattern, the test is passed, otherwise is failed. Here is an example of what I mean:
Code:
var reg:RegExp = /[a-z]/i;
var str1:String = "a b";
var str2:String = "a 1";
[code]....
Using actionscript, how do I find if the following string contains the substring assets/Wallpaper?
View 1 RepliesI need to know the exact position of some words that are inside a phrase.
Basically I have a string and I'm getting parts of it with substr,but i need to know the especific position (x,y) of that little part that i got.
How do I get a word from a string?If a string is also an array I should be able to do it but so far no luck.Searching for a substring is useful if I know the correct index, like in[code]...
View 3 RepliesI'm using flex4 for creating an editor. There I need to get word under current cursor position. say for example, this is the text in textarea, "Hi, this is a sample" and cursor under "this" word. If I click a button, then this "this" word must be returned. All this I need to implement in flex4 and actionscript3.
View 1 RepliesI have flex advancedDataGrid (could use dataGrid if that works better, though i like my meta-column headers), and i want to have a component popup on top of a selected row.
The problem is, i can figure out how to reference an actual rendered row of a datagrid (rather than an item of the dataprovider) in order to get its position on the screen.
how to access a "row" of a datagrid, or at least get its position?
How does one find the position of a child movieclip within a parent movieclip relative to the stage? Whenever I refer to the position of the target movieclip, it gives me a number of what I'm not quite sure it refers to. I want to know the position of a an object as it is seen drawn on the stage
View 5 RepliesI'm often finding a need to get a stage-relative position of objects in my game, which are often buried several layers deep as children of children of children, etc, often with differently scaled/moved/rotated parents. The position i want isn't quite relative to the stage, but a main holder object i have on it called lvlHolder (see code below). I wrote a function to deal with it that recurses up the display list, accounting for each object as it goes, to get a global position. It's worked so far, but one thing it doesn't account for is rotation. I'm finding a need for that now, and i'm not sure how to account for rotation of objects, to rotate offsets from them,
My function is below. how i should enhance it to accomodate for the rotation of each parent object? Also any tips on optimisation would be good, as i'm using this a LOT (roughly twice per frame, per object, for physics calculations) I'm also wondering, in similar situations i've seen something related to transform matrices used

how do you find out in which position a certain value is in an array?
View 9 RepliesI'm trying to get the position of the mouse while it is stationary. For example, if the SWF loads and the mouse is already on the SWF, how can I detect it's position WITHOUT waiting for the user to move the mouse.
how to grab the mouse position when the mouse moves, just not how to obtain that info when it has not moved yet.

View 1 RepliesSlice seems to disregard any
and/or newlines. IE, when I slice() a string from a certain position, and transfer the sliced string to a new dyn. text box, all enters etc get lost; all text appears on one line.
View 4 RepliesHow can I find a pixel position, based in its color, within a bitmapdata?Say, we have a path drawed (a movieclip), we make it a bitmapdata.The path´s color is red.How can I find a given pixel red, within that bitmapdata?
View 1 RepliesI'd like to build a cipher in AS2, and I was wondering if there's any way for me to search a string for a specific letter/word?
Example:
someTextBox.text = "Lorem ipsum";
Can I search inside of that string for an "m" and then subsequently alter that letter?
is there any way of searching a string from right to left and trying to find the first occurrence of like a letter or a fullstop or something like that? also is there any way of finding the index of were its located and then deleting all characters from left to right starting at what ever index value was returned?
View 2 RepliesI'm creating a flash application, which loads a file from a server, and stores it in a string. I'm wanting to find the substring within that string, which is inbetween two known substrings.
Note. I don't want to do this with reg-ex as i'd like it to be easily reusable.
Ideally I'd like a function which i can re-use, by passing the beginning and ending substrings.
e.g. something along these lines..
function getSubString(start:String, end:String):String
Edit: There may be more than one instance of the 'start' and 'end' substrings within the string, i'm wanting it between the first instance of each.
I am kind of new to javascript/html5. normally I would do that kind of stuff inside flash/as3. but since the iPad doesn't support that I need to switch the horse...I want to build a website where words are floating in position and size and if the mouse comes over one word it should draw some lines to all the other words. are there any frameworks one could use? the whole should look like a tag cloud with lines between the tags.
View 2 RepliesI have an XML which contains a field of the type:
<mytext> My name is <color value="FF0000">Bill</color>. </mytext>
I wonder if there is a simple methodology (using E4X methods) in order to print the inner text: "My name is Bill." in a text area and having the word "Bill" colored i.e. red.
The generalized situation is, if i can print the inner text and use XML tags to specify formatting attributes of the text per word.
Do E4X supports this type of parsing, or do I have to program my own "little" parser for this situation?
finding a number in a string of text. how can i do this?
example:
var1 = "string of text 35";
trace(magical number finder);
output: 35
I have a dynamic text field in flash that is populated by an input box. The dynamic text field has a maxmium width it can be. So i have it as multiline WITH wodrwap on. My problem is that I have to send this data to server and for the php to be able to text the text and output the text as it is displayed in flash. There seems to be no way of finding the linebreaks and passing them in the string as far as I can see?

Is there a way to have a function draw a box around an object by finding the objects instance name via a string?
such as:
Code:
function BoxObject(object) {
//code to draw a box around the object
}
and then juts have an object with an instance name, like "my_mc" and then call the function on a keyframe like:
BoxObject("my_mc");
In my attempt to learn flex remoting I came across thisflexService.getRules.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, loadRules);here flexService is a remote java object . me that when esultEvent.RESULT will occur. On studying about ResultEvent in AS document it states as The event that indicates an RPC operation has successfully returned a resultSo keeping that in mind my guess is ResultEvent will be fired when flexService.getRules method will successfully return a list of object,where flexService is object of remote class FlexService having getRules function which returns list of object, Can any one please tell how exactly it works
