ActionScript 3.0 :: Finding Mouse Position WITHOUT An Event?
May 3, 2009
I'm trying to get the position of the mouse while it is stationary. For example, if the SWF loads and the mouse is already on the SWF, how can I detect it's position WITHOUT waiting for the user to move the mouse.
how to grab the mouse position when the mouse moves, just not how to obtain that info when it has not moved yet.
I'm trying to know if mouse of the user is over my video when the status of the netstream video is "start". I don't understand how.
Code: Select allns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStat); function netStat(event:NetStatusEvent):void { switch (event.info.code) { case "NetStream.Play.Start":
Here I would like to detect the mouse position or event. (something like : if mouse over >>>> play with sound >>> else >>> play without sound. break; }}
I have flex advancedDataGrid (could use dataGrid if that works better, though i like my meta-column headers), and i want to have a component popup on top of a selected row.
The problem is, i can figure out how to reference an actual rendered row of a datagrid (rather than an item of the dataprovider) in order to get its position on the screen.
how to access a "row" of a datagrid, or at least get its position?
How does one find the position of a child movieclip within a parent movieclip relative to the stage? Whenever I refer to the position of the target movieclip, it gives me a number of what I'm not quite sure it refers to. I want to know the position of a an object as it is seen drawn on the stage
I'm often finding a need to get a stage-relative position of objects in my game, which are often buried several layers deep as children of children of children, etc, often with differently scaled/moved/rotated parents. The position i want isn't quite relative to the stage, but a main holder object i have on it called lvlHolder (see code below). I wrote a function to deal with it that recurses up the display list, accounting for each object as it goes, to get a global position. It's worked so far, but one thing it doesn't account for is rotation. I'm finding a need for that now, and i'm not sure how to account for rotation of objects, to rotate offsets from them,
My function is below. how i should enhance it to accomodate for the rotation of each parent object? Also any tips on optimisation would be good, as i'm using this a LOT (roughly twice per frame, per object, for physics calculations) I'm also wondering, in similar situations i've seen something related to transform matrices used
How can I find a pixel position, based in its color, within a bitmapdata?Say, we have a path drawed (a movieclip), we make it a bitmapdata.The path´s color is red.How can I find a given pixel red, within that bitmapdata?
Basically the x position of the mouse should control the play position of a movie. Do I need something like an event handler (I'm not sure exactly what these do, but I've seen similar scripts that seem to use them).
I have an Input Text area that users can edit and then submit. I need to be able to show, on screen, the cursor's current position as they type. I don't need to know where the mouse is but all work-arounds I've found so far can only tell me the mouse position. The font for the text is 'courier' or 'courier new' and the Input Text area is scrollable.
I'd like to use the x and y mouse coordinates as variables in a program. I'm very new to Flash and ActionScript and I'm not even sure which classes I need to import or which listeners or handlers I need to use.
I have a map application that when I use the mouse wheel the map will scale up or scale down. The next thing I want to do is to focus on the mouse pointer while zooming on the part of the map.
I have this code...
function focusMousePosition(){ onMouseMove = function (){ Stage.width = _root._xmouse; Stage.height = _root._ymouse; updateAfterEvent(); }} var mouseWheelListener = new Object();var wheelNum:Number; mouseWheelListener.onMouseWheel = function(wheelNum){ focusMousePosition(); if (wheelNum > 0){ map._xscale *= 0.9; map._yscale *= 0.9; }else{ map._xscale *= 1.1; map._yscale *= 1.1; }}Mouse.addListener(mouseWheelListener);
The problem with this code is that it scales from the registration point (0,0). Due to the other transformations I'm doing to this image at various times, it isn't possible to move the registration point. The image is larger than the stage and the user is able to drag it around. I want the mouse wheel to zoom in on the place the mouse is hovering over (or at a minimum...the center of the "view" they have...aka the stage)I tried doing this:
Code: internalPoint = new Point(Map.mouseX, Map.mouseY); externalPoint = new Point(stage.mouseX, stage.mouseY); var matrix:Matrix = Map.transform.matrix;
[code]....
Which, incidentally, I'm using that whole portion of code to zoom into the state they will be in when they use the mouse wheel.
i've been working on a problem for a while now, which involves targeting the closest movieClip in relation to the x y coords of the mouse, I've attached a nice little acompanying graphic.Each mc added to the stage has it's own sub-class (HotSpots) which uses Pythag to measure distance from mouse. At this stage i can determine the closest value from my Main class but can't figure out how to reference it back to the movieclip... hope this makes sense. Below are the two Classes.My Main Class which attachs the mcs, and monitors mouse movement and traces closest value.[code]
1. Im getting the mouse location so that when its at the top of the screen a dropdown menu appears. It works fine on my first two frame, but on my third the drop down doesnt move unless my mouse passes over it.
This is my first AS3 post, I have recently taken the step from AS2. I am displaying an image from an XMLList using event.target.name. I need to access it's index number in the list to set to a variable.Here is the code:
thumbLoader.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, showPicture); function showPicture(event:MouseEvent):void imageLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name));
I'm trying to get the id of the target in showMe(). For example, when I click button or image panel's showMe() function executes first. Here I want to capture the button/image's id.
private function init():void { pnl.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,showMe); }
I am trying to learn JavaScript and I am wondering whether JavaScript has a event listener just like ActionScript's ENTER_FRAME. Basically, I want this event listener to listen "all the time" not just wait for any particular instance (mouse click, keyboard event) of event.
I am trying to use the new unCaughtErrorEvent, as explained here: [URL] When testing the event I run across two problems:
1 - when testing the movie from the flash IDE, the uncaught error is indeed caught and handled (as in the example) BUT the original
error still gets thrown! For example, when loading an XML file that does not exist: - first the uncaughterror event gets called. (good!) - then I get an unhandled event error (ioErrorEvent for not finding the xml file). Isn't the whole point of catching uncaught errors that you can catch ALL these errors? This way it seems rather useless to me.
2 - when testing the uncaughterror handler from a html page, the debugger gives an entirely new error: VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.events::UncaughtErrorEvent could not be found. So for now, I'm truly baffled as to what UncaughtErrorEvent is supposed to do and why it doesn't work
I have MC masked with TEXT,when the user moves his mouse down more text appears from the bottom and when he moves it goes bakc to the original position...I do not want the mouse wheel .. I woudl like to do it by mouse hovering...
I have a flash that has a background symbol that responds to CLICK event. On top of that symbol I have a sprite that contains a Bitmap with transparent pixels. Both of them are added to the stage, so they are not related directly.
I want clicks on the transparent pixels on the sprite to go straight through to the background. I have read about mouseEnabled / mouseChildren but have not been able to make these work. The symbol ignores the mouse events when I use them, but does not pass it along as if its transparent.
Is this possible to do with flash? Or will I have to re-route mouse events?
My stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.
Then of course both event are captured no matter where i click.Is it possible to capture independent mouse clicks on both of these two movie clips and if so, how can i do that?

I need to perform an event when the mouse moves AND when the mouse button is down, how can I do that? What will happen is that when I click and drag the mouse, the width of an object will change. Here is what I have so far:
