I'm using flex4 for creating an editor. There I need to get word under current cursor position. say for example, this is the text in textarea, "Hi, this is a sample" and cursor under "this" word. If I click a button, then this "this" word must be returned. All this I need to implement in flex4 and actionscript3.
I am kind of new to javascript/html5. normally I would do that kind of stuff inside flash/as3. but since the iPad doesn't support that I need to switch the horse...I want to build a website where words are floating in position and size and if the mouse comes over one word it should draw some lines to all the other words. are there any frameworks one could use? the whole should look like a tag cloud with lines between the tags.
I have a Flash movie that is loaded inside an iframe. In this Flash movie I have a link to a Word document. When using IE the link does not work. This only happens when using a Word doc, inside the iframe with IE. Please see [URL] Click on the first link using IE, you will see a window popping out and then disappearing instantly.
I'm trying to create an url to a word inside a dynamic textbox but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm familiar with TextFormats, etc. but that only apply to the textbox and not to a word or a sentence inside that textbox. Or have I been misguided??
I have been building a simple word game. It is smple but works fine. I am now trying to enhance some of the features.I would like to see if I can display one letter of each word so the Player has a hint. Think of this as a beginners level.The words are random from a text list. Either I can make the letters invisible and the game starts without a hint or I am able to select a letter using charAt() or creating a new variable substring()from the word which is the displayed repeatedly on the stage(not what I want) I have not been able to find a way to display one letter and display it in the correct order within the word and keep the remaining letters invisible.
I am doing drag-the-word quiz. When you match the word with correct part, the message pop out, saying Bingo! If the word is matched with wrong part, the "Sorry. Try Again" message pops out, says "Sorry. Try Again". I managed to make the "Sorry. Try Again" message disappear. However it dun work anymore after that. Sometimes it is quite funny. When I play it, the "Sorry. Try Again" message dun pop out at all.
Another problem - I am not sure how to make the word fit into the white box. I only know how to make the word drop on the white box. Can you tell me how to do it? I will be adding voiceovers to the quiz when the word is matched with the part. For e.g it will say "bingo" or "Sorry. Try Again". How to attach the voiceovers to it?
create the word which changing many time and in the end become a clear word like what's happend exactly in horizintal menu in [URL] That's what i wanted the changing in words like that menu?
Ok so If I load a list of like 2000 words from a text file into a text box like this
ActionScript Code: var url:String = "dictionaries/"aa.txt"; var loadit:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); loadit.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
[Code]....
how could I randomly choose a word from the list and have it as a variable
I've basically finished this project, but there are some feature I'd like to add which are giving me trouble. Heres the jist of the flaIt takes data from a txt file and uses split() to put that data into an array (a list of phrases). Then it randomly chooses one of these phrases and displayes it in a text field, then it repeats this every 5 seconds.What I am trying to add are these two things:1) do not repeat array value until all have been used once2) alpha fade in and out of each phrase, the AS of which is basic, but I am not sure where to put the code and set it up in this case.Im just confused on where to place and exactly how the write the code for these additional elements
I have an Array which holds phrases. Now I want to be able to set the var: on my dynamic textfield to the correct phrase in the array. It works when I use tmp_txt.text = phrases['yes'].sText, but I want to set it directly on the textfield. Is this possible?// explanation:// phrases['yes'].sText returns JA which is swedish for YES

I am have written a flash "reader" which I use as an aid for language studies. Various narrations are loaded into a combobox via an XML file, and the user can play the selected narration in a "sentence mode", a "passage mode" (several sentences) or in "continuous mode". (I use Soundbooth to set navigation cue points at the beginning of each "sentence".)
I would like to add a "Phrase Mode" which would cause the player to play the sound file until it hits a pause / quiet spot. In other words, if the user selected "phrase mode", the player would play to the next spot where there is no voice for x period of time. He/she will then be able to select 'repeat' to replay the phrase or 'next' to play the next "phrase" - as with the other modes. I am using FLVPlayback to play the .flv files.
I am wondering if anyone knows a way to determine the real length in pixels that a phrase uses.The problem lies on the fact that every character does not take the same space (x pixels). Let's say I have a dynamic text field and I want to know how many pixels does the sentence use.is not the same to have:phrase #1 =iiiiiiiiiithanphrase #2 =wwwwwwwwwweven though both are using 10 characters.What is the most precise way to find this out?
I have a problem with my video. On the Stage I have an input box (book_box) with a "submit" (submit_btn) button. The purpose is to read an xml file for a phrase (the input box) and then output the phrase when found. The problem is it only ever reads the 2nd item in the XML list... So In this case, test.
The XML <root><books><book> <title>Learning</title> </book><book> <title>test</title> [Code] .....

system to browse offline howeverthis doesn't work correctly for any less then ActionScript 3. Whenyou highlighted a word in the past such as "null" it use to pull upthe word and the info in all the books. Now all I see is a webbrowser that doesn't do this for me. I mean who sits there atadobe's end and thinks up of ways to slow someone down like this??How can you remove the corequick linking from the program.Number 1 not everyone is on AS3 and some of us still have to updateAS2 code.
I want to create a particle system that spews into the air multiple copies of letters that eventually spell out a phrase.Since the final file will involve hitTestObject collisions, I think I'd need, as a first step, 10 non-dynamic MCs to create my phrase... loaded into, I'm guessing, an array? Something like: target_mc = ["H", "E", "L", "O", etc.]; Then, as a second step, I need a spewing mechanism, built around(?): addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,myFunction);
how can i test the position of the mouse inside the area of a specific movieclip WITHOUT using rollover and rollout events?
the movieclip is the irregular shape (star)
i need to do some action according to the position of mouse (inside/outside of the movieclip area) but i can not use rollover event because i have a button placed over the movieclip.
In AS3 / CS4 I'm trying to programmatically create a bunch of rectangular objects, let's call them 'cards', that will contain an image and a colored background and eventually some other elements like text. I want to create alot of these cards and move them around inside of a larger panel (also a Sprite) of sorts. I can successfully create colored rectangles in my cards and place the cards where I want in the panel, but whenever I try to add an image to a card, I can't seem to position the image inside the card's coordinate space, it ends up being placed inside the larger panel's coordinate space instead, even though I'm adding the image/loader as a child of the card. I thought maybe it had something to do with having to wait until the image loading was complete, so I added the listener as a test but that didn't work. Here's the code:
I'm working on an AS2 chat and I'd like to be able to place an emoticon at a specific location within a textbox. Is there a way of calculating a specific character's x & y position? I've even tried using textWidth and textHeight to calculate a specific location within the textbox, but the coordinates never really match. Keep in mind I have a multiline, wordwrap textbox with dynamic text in it. I've tried using monospace fonts and true type fonts, embedded and not, but the result is always very approximate, if not completely off.
I'm trying to make a dynamic image gallery from and xml. From my tutorials, right now i've got it so it will constantly add the next thumbnail below the other, which is fine, but I'm trying to figure out how to make it that once it reaches a certain y coordinate, it will move the x coordinate over and stack them again. So that rather one long list of thumbs, it will be a side by side stack. For some reason, I can't get it in my head how something like this would work. My goal is to have a side by side stack that I will end up putting in a movie clip that will be masked to show only 2 stacks at a time. Then when clicking a button will slide it over. I was planning to use the "movieclip.length" to calculate how far over to move it, but i haven't gotten that far yet. This is what I got:
Is there a way to position something INSIDE of a movie clip, based on X and Y values of the root stage?
Basically the X and Y of the container movie clip is at Stage.width/2; but I want one specific movie clip inside to stay permanently at 200X and 200Y on the MAIN STAGE. I can't actually move it to the root timeline though because it is using actionscript inside of the container.
I need to get the position (x,y) of the last char in a textField with html text inside. I try with numlines and getLineMetrics, but that only work for non-html text. If I have a text like
Code: <p>text one</p><p>This is the other text</p><br><br>
I need to have the position on the stage of the last "t".
This seems like it should be simple, but... I've been trying to figure out how to do the following, and I can't seem to make it work. It all works except for the hit test part. I have a working drag and drop application. I need something different to happen when the user drops an object while the mouse x,y is, or is not over a certain (very irregularly shaped) bitmap inside a movieClip. how to do this? I have found some complicated ways to hit test between 2 bitmaps, but not 1 bitmap and mouse x,y.
