View 8 RepliesMy stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.

I'd like to do tooltip-type popups with some text. Is there an easy way to get the word under the mouse? Right now I'm reading the entire text field into an array where the index of the element is the number of the character, like so:var theString:String = 'This is some text.";and the array looks like this:[code]So the getCharIndexAtPoint function with the mouseX and mouseY is used as an index to the array, which returns the correct word. It works, but it seems like a crude way to go about it. Is there any way to get the html text of the link if the mouse is hovering over a word?
View 5 RepliesI have a Flash movie that is loaded inside an iframe. In this Flash movie I have a link to a Word document. When using IE the link does not work. This only happens when using a Word doc, inside the iframe with IE. Please see [URL] Click on the first link using IE, you will see a window popping out and then disappearing instantly.

Basically I have a string and I'm getting parts of it with substr,but i need to know the especific position (x,y) of that little part that i got.
I used to have a little text panel (that sat with the color, swatches, and align panels) that I was able to open up and edit text size, color, underline, etc with. It had a much better text editing ability then the properties panel, seeing as the properties panel does not even bother to allow me to underline text or to highlight and edit a single word in a whole text box. Now I don't have it, I can't find the damn thing anywhere, and I want it back. How can I get it?
View 1 RepliesI create a button(MC) and want to duplicate it and easily change the text inside this button... basically I have an mc that acts as a button so inside the mc I have text that I added that animates on mouse rollover. Now I duplicate this mc in the library go into the mc and want to change the text, and when I do, the text in the original button also changes. This happens because the text is a Tween so it's using the same tween from the library for the new button. Is there a quick way to avoid this? I don't see anyway other than typing in the text again in the new button and animating it again.
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to create an url to a word inside a dynamic textbox but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm familiar with TextFormats, etc. but that only apply to the textbox and not to a word or a sentence inside that textbox. Or have I been misguided??

View 3 RepliesI have is Adobe fl CS4. I succussfully created a scene with all correct layers including a start button action script. No errors works great. Now my next challenge is, how do I cause a word to apear? I created some objects that I want to select and cause a word to appear and color to change, once I hover over the object. It is like the same method when you create a 'start button.' Do I create another sub scene in the action script command?

I am now trying to enhance some of the features.I would like to see if I can display one letter of each word so the Player has a hint. Think of this as a beginners level.The words are random from a text list. Either I can make the letters invisible and the game starts without a hint or I am able to select a letter using charAt() or creating a new variable substring()from the word which is the displayed repeatedly on the stage(not what I want) I have not been able to find a way to display one letter and display it in the correct order within the word and keep the remaining letters invisible.

I am doing drag-the-word quiz. When you match the word with correct part, the message pop out, saying Bingo! If the word is matched with wrong part, the "Sorry. Try Again" message pops out, says "Sorry. Try Again". I managed to make the "Sorry. Try Again" message disappear. However it dun work anymore after that. Sometimes it is quite funny. When I play it, the "Sorry. Try Again" message dun pop out at all.
Another problem - I am not sure how to make the word fit into the white box. I only know how to make the word drop on the white box. Can you tell me how to do it? I will be adding voiceovers to the quiz when the word is matched with the part. For e.g it will say "bingo" or "Sorry. Try Again". How to attach the voiceovers to it?

View 1 RepliesI have a class called Mouse (tracking button states in a game). I want that class to be able to show and hide the mouse cursor. Whenever I try to use flash.ui.Mouse.show() or flash.ui.Mouse.hide() I get the error: "Access of undefined property flash.".
I can't import flash.ui.Mouse for obvious reasons.
Is there a way to make this work? What's the point of packages if they don't resolve these collisions?
I have one more script in that only mouse drag works i want also scroll works on mouse over event.

This custom event overrides the clone method as required.In this event listener I want to dispatch an instance of a different type of event... a different custom event instance altogether. It also overrides the clone method as required.The problem is I'm getting a type coercion error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: ...I do not know what is trying to do the casting. Is it possible to use a movie clip to block the mouse from activating the stage MOUSE_OVER event?
View 4 RepliesI have a flash that has a background symbol that responds to CLICK event. On top of that symbol I have a sprite that contains a Bitmap with transparent pixels. Both of them are added to the stage, so they are not related directly.
I want clicks on the transparent pixels on the sprite to go straight through to the background. I have read about mouseEnabled / mouseChildren but have not been able to make these work. The symbol ignores the mouse events when I use them, but does not pass it along as if its transparent.
Is this possible to do with flash? Or will I have to re-route mouse events?
