Actionscript :: Flex - Find The Word The Mouse Is Over For Text Component?
May 1, 2009
Is it possible (if so how) to find out what word the cursor/mouse is over when it is moving over a < mx:Text > component? So for example as the user moves the mouse along a sentence (inside text component), each word will highlight as they go (I know you can highlight while pressing the mouse button down - but that not how I wish to do it).
Attachment 54101my problem is in bitmap explained:1. after loading external text into dynamic text field,2. how to call/make visible "button over text" on the Scene by pointing a mouse over specific word in loaded external text?3. javascript, html, actionscript (asfunction, variable)
I am trying to locate the letter at a certain number of characters after a word. For instance, in this sentence:"Hello, I really like dogs"I want to find the character of position 7 after the word "really", which in the above sentence would be the letter "d"
i'm building my first RIA in flex, and did a little of research to find a radar chart component free, but all i found is not free (licence >500$).Where can i find it for free ?
I've created a custom component with several inline item renderers that I use as a tooltip. The height of the component is unknown, as the data contents of the component are not known until runtime.
However, when displaying the tooltip, occasionally it extends beyond the boundaries of the flash application, thus, I'd like to be able to detect this occurrence and reposition the tip.
The problem is that the height and width of the component are, apparently, not available until after being rendered by the popup manager. (i.e. they are always 0)But, I do not know any way of finding out when the popup is actually rendered and, therefore, the height/width values available.
I have a list of 98 countries. I have a world map that I have animated by storing all the movieClip names in an array. Below the world map I have the country names listed out in a few text boxes. I know I can turn these names into movieClips and then change their color that way. But I was wondering if there was a way for ActionScript 3 to "read" my paragraph and find the text name then change its color?
i created dynamically checkbox on data grid how do i find out Which checkbox select/unselect and which checkbox contact is select/unselect ? Because we cant set dynamic id for each checkbox
I have prepared a simplified test case for my question. It will run instantly in your Flash Builder if you put the 2 files below into a project.I'm trying to display a List of strings and a confirmation checkbox in a popup:In the real application I dispatch a custom event with the string selected in the list, but in the test code below I just call trace(str); My problem: if I use click event, then the window closes, even if I click at a scrollbar (the !str check below doesn'twhen an item had been selected in previous use). And if I use change event, then the window doesn't close, when I click on the same item as the last time.riting a custom item renderer and having a click event handler for each item seems to be overkill for this case, because I have strings in the list.Test.mxml: (please click myBtn few times - to see my problems with click and change)
As far as I know theres in no way to cahnge the alpha of a dynamic text box. I put one in a movie clip and when i try to change the alpha of it everything else in it changes its alpha but the not the DT box. Could someone plz verify for me that u can't change alpha and help me find a component that allows alpha control with a dynamic text box. thx in advance.
i've downloaded the text layout component from adobe site and i install it with extension manager but i didn't find the component in the flash component panel
Not sure this exist, but worth asking you all: is there a built in method to compute the distance between the current mouse position and a given component? If not, is there a simple way to build a function like this that works for components with generic shapes?
I'm using the TextInput component, but it doesn't seem toallow for a word wrap - when you type your letters just keep goingoff to the right and what you typed on the left isn't visible. Ifigure there's gotta be a way, but I looked around in thefiles and couldn't find it? Does anyone know how to do this?
I'd like to do tooltip-type popups with some text. Is there an easy way to get the word under the mouse? Right now I'm reading the entire text field into an array where the index of the element is the number of the character, like so:var theString:String = 'This is some text.";and the array looks like this:[code]So the getCharIndexAtPoint function with the mouseX and mouseY is used as an index to the array, which returns the correct word. It works, but it seems like a crude way to go about it. Is there any way to get the html text of the link if the mouse is hovering over a word?
I used to have a little text panel (that sat with the color, swatches, and align panels) that I was able to open up and edit text size, color, underline, etc with. It had a much better text editing ability then the properties panel, seeing as the properties panel does not even bother to allow me to underline text or to highlight and edit a single word in a whole text box. Now I don't have it, I can't find the damn thing anywhere, and I want it back. How can I get it?
I have a component that extends UIComponent of Flex, I want to add it a FlexMouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN_OUTSIDE listener but it does not works. that means I can not capture the event. But when I use PopUpManager to add this component, and then add a FlexMouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN_OUTSIDE listener, it works fine. Is FlexMouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN_OUTSIDE only works for pop-up components?
I'm trying to determine with the help of a mouse event if I'm over a specific component. So right now I have two components, let's say buttonA and buttonB. ButtonA has a listener on it already listening for the mouse out event. ButtonB is flush against the edge of ButtonA. I need to find out the code for it. Here is more details:
When I do the above on a List component, the hand button is shown and the whole component loses it's interactivity (Hand cursor is shown even on scrollbars).
So how can I show the hand cursor only when rolling over the list items?
In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.
Is posible? Flex app detect word when mouse over on message in pdf file. Now have some project translate language with tooltip or pop-up when mouse over on it. I found some code can detect word (string) on TextField class but not in pdf.
I've noticed that an "out of the box" HDividedBox has some serious flickering issues when liveDragging is enabled, but only when the pointer is over the contents of the DividedBox while dragging. If you grab the BoxDivider and move the pointer off the component while dragging, the flicker goes away and the component renders properly.
I have tested this with both my customized component and an extremely basic HDividedBox implementation with Group, SkinnableContainer, and BoxContainer children as well as nested groups with clipping. All types of children exhibit the same behavior.
Suppose I have a (Spark) label. What is the best way to find the length of the text in it? I looked at the myLable.measureText("bla bla") method but it says: To measure text in Spark components, get the measurements of a spark.components.Label or spark.components.RichTextfter looking around I cannot find what this is refering to. I tried myLabel.measureWidth() but this does not return anything usefull (it frequently returns zero). Note: I am explicitly setting the width like this:<s:Lable width="{globalWidthVariable"} .../>If the text overflows I would like to increse the globalWidthVariable to the size of the text.
