Actionscript 3 :: Flex 4 . Passing Data From Main App To Custom Component
Oct 15, 2010
I havent found quite what I want elsewhere or at least am not accomplished enough to adapt I'm trying to create a project that shows radio stations with logo, listen button etc The datasource is an xml file with child tags like 'name','image' and 'listen' for each parent, 'station'. I access this data via the main application with creationComplete="radioService.send()"
Im a complete beginner in Flex programming. I have an application with a main .mxml file, and a certain class Foo that I call from the .mxml. In Foo, I make a URLRequest and listen for the Complete event. Then I found myself with the returned data in a Foo function, but I have no idea how to communicate it to the .mxml part of the application ! I looked into ArrayCollections but I can't seem to understand how they work. Isn't there a way to modify, from inside the class, a variable with a global scope ?
I have a main mxml file (flex4) and want to pass a parameter (user_name) to a component in a directory called components. When I run the program, the user_name is NOT being sent from the main to the component file. (Interestingly, if you make the component visible, you can see the parameter has been passed).
I have hacked much larger files down to get the following two files: Main <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:Application xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600" [Code] .....
I'm trying to pass some properties to a component I've created in Flash Builder 4. In my example below I want to pass the "label" property to update the label property of the Button.
In my flex app there are a few custom components. I want to create instance of these components at runtime and assign them properties by reading in a config file. I know how to read xml and instantiate components, however my question is about being able to get the type of the component from the xml attribute and then creating an instance of that type.
How do I call a custom component's public function from the main app. For example, I've got a timer component, MyTimer. In the main app, I want to call startTimer() or stopTimer().In the main app, I've got:
<visualcomponent:MyTimer /> In the component, I've got: public function startTimer():void {
I know that the best way to make a connection from my main app to my modules is through interfaces.
So, my problem is, how can I implement an interface so my module can send and receive data from my main app?, cuz, I understand that my module implements an interface that is used by my main app.. but, can I do it "viceversa"?
Other issue I have is, why do I need to call my main app children if I can just import a module's class?.
i'm using flash builder 4..i want to ask something..how to binding data to custom list component in flex??...i already try binding data from webservice to standard datagrid component in flex, and it's work perfectly...this is my code for binding to datagrid..
So I'm trying to make a project with multiple rss feeds on one page. All the rss feeds are in one xml file. this works fine but now I need to retrieve rssdata from each rsslink.
To do that I want a variable to be filled up with the rssData that I retrieve via an external actionscript file.
So in my main actionscript I would have something like this:
ActionScript Code: var rssLoader:RssLoader = new RssLoader; var rssData = /* THIS IS WHERE I WANT MY RSS DATA TO COME */
This is NOT duplicate of my earlier post (its is slightly different)But this is similar issue with similar error but its not the same error The error I am getting now is below while dispatching the custom event from my custom component
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert events::MapEvent@a74ab51 to flash.events.MouseEvent. dispatchEvent(new MapEvent(MapEvent.CLICKED_ON_MAP));
Note: The error in my earlier post is giving below error message
Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@81ecb79 to com.events.ShopEvent
The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.
My main SWF file, "working_login.swf" has a movieclip that loads another SWF file, called "membership.swf". It loads this SWF file inside of a movie clip which, upon a press of a button, tweens the movie clip containing the "membership.swf" onto the screen. Membership.swf allows you to login using "testing" as the user, and "testing" as the password. I have no idea how to dynamically change the username_txt dynamic text on the main swf.
What I want: I want it to display "Hello, guest!" when there is noone logged in and no cookie set. I want the program, upon someone logging in as "testing" to have the dynamic text box display "Hello, testing!" upon a successful login. Right now, I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. I am using a class to set the dynamic text, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to set it up to recognize a guest VS someone logged in. These are the following files that I am using: [URL]

I'm trying to pass a string variable with custom event and having a problem retrieveing the string when the event is handled. The event fires OK, and I can trace the string in the Event, but it returns "undefined" in the event handler. I'm hoping it's just a typo or something, but it's got me stumped. Below is my Event code and the handler code. [code]
I'm very new to flex and to flash in general. I walked trough one of the exercises in "flex in a week", specifically the MVC exercise which talks about how to seperate the view to a different component and later on send him the data as one of his fields.
I had no problems in the exercise and everything worked BUT, when I tried to do it on my own code it doesn't work.here is my relevant parts of the code:
I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server. The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips. The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen. An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there. Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?
or
I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too. What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.
UPDATE: *There will be not any object over another.
*I will not use hitTest on bitmaps because all bitmaps are wrapped in another component,as they, for now are itemrenderers.
Anyway I already begin to do this using a class that extends the SkinnableDataContainer and a custom layout. As the layout is not like a grid, is sparse, random items at diferent points(x, y).How to get the localX and localY, relative to item renderer and not to the Spark List, from a DragEvent in Flex 4?
I have a custom Flex 4.5 component (to be used in a List) -
Game.mxml (represents a clickable playing table in a card game): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:ItemRenderer [code].......
But I never see the "game clicked: " trace. Does anybody please know why? I'm probably missing something minor, because I can see the "Clicked: 8946" trace.
This is similar to the question asked here. I am dispatching custom event "ShopEvent" but i am getting error "Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@81ecb79 to com.events.ShopEvent"Note: Error is thrown from the parent custom component (3rd code snippet), I have added more details thereThis is my custom event. See the first constant, I copy pasted the event name in custom components.
The spark panel component for example can be written like this
<Panel title="Skinny"> <child components ... /> <controlBarGroup> <child control bar components ... /> </controlBarGroup>
[Code]...
The motivation here is that I can now create a couple different skin files to change the look and layout of those subgroups. Reading source of the spark panel, there are some calls within the mx_internal namespace such as getMXMLContent() which is a method of the spark group component, but which I have no access to.
Does the description above make sense? How can I create custom 'contentGroups' in my custom Flex4 component that can use nested mxml child components? Should I approach this a different way?
I've got 2 files, my Application and a custom component. In my component I have a httpservice and a string named _requestUrl that is bindable. The httpservice uses this.
I have a remoteobject within my main.mxml.I can call a function on the service from an init() function on my main.mxml, and my java debugger triggers a breakpoint. When I move the remoteobject declaration and function call into a custom component (that is declared within main.mxml), the remote function on java-side no longer gets called, no breakpoints triggered, no errors, silence.[code]
is there any way to create a custom css value for a component and have it available to the skin class that component is using? for example, if i define this in a css file:
[Code]....
is there a way to make myCustomValue available in the PanelSkin ?
I'm just getting started with custom events in a custom component. And I don't quite have the hang of it, yet. I've got a component with a button in it. When it's clicked, I want to call a function in the main app.
I'm making a UI for a component in Flash. I wanted to use Flex and have had no luck getting the onUpdate exernalInterface call to fire properly. I'm referencing the functionality described here: [URL]. First off, I can't embed the SWF in the FLA. It just won't start the Flex SWF. Even using the external swf, it seems that the onUpdate function is either called too early or not at all. Here's what I've tried:
Tying the externalInterfce declaration to the initialize, preinitialize, applicationComplete, and creationComplete events. Sub-classing my application and putting the externalInterface in the constructor. Neither of these options work. When I create a basic AS3 project in Eclipse and put the externalInferface in the constructor, it works as expected.
Here, I need to create custom component object, changing their element values and appending that custom component in VBox. What are the correct syntax to implement this one?
