Is there any way I can get a list of all the classes in a particular package?
I know getDefinitionByName, getQualifiedClassName, and getQualifiedSuperclassName in flash.utils can find me a class, but I can't find anyway to find all the classes in a package at runtime.
I have classes witch resides in this package :com.network.interface_as. When I try to load one class from that package in another class in the same package like this:

I tried googling this but can't find anything. I'm just curious as to why we use the folder name 'com' as the root directory? what does it stand for? computer?
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to do some restructing of a flash codebase, and I was wondering if anyone could clarify something for me as I'm unsure whether what I'm trying to do goes against a fundamental priciple of flash development or I'm being confused by the Flash CS4 user interface(I've got a java development background, so some of the interaction between fla files and the like is somewhat difficult at times to get my head around). I've done several searches but can't seem to find any similar problems, apologies if any exist.
Basically, I want to restructure my codebase and move my fla files around by putting them at a different location in the directory structure.
Existing structure:
basecompany namecomponent name
where fla files are stored in base, and code is stored in company namecomponent name, and code in said location is in the company name.component name package.
What I want to do is move my fla files from base to component name for each individual project. The actual location of the code is unchanged, but the fla files no longer compile, giving me a 5001 error - package name does not reflect location. I'm assuming that this is because the relative location is different - as far as the fla file is concerned, the code it is referencing is located at component name, not company namecomponent name. Is it possible to make the CS4 publisher understand that the fla file is not at the root of the package structure, and if so how?
I have an .as package that I have attached to a simple .fla with a List component and named it list. I have done this in an earlier document that I built using a tutorial and it worked then. Now I am getting an error:1120: Access of undefined property list.This is something that I've seen a thousand times when I forget to give something an instance name, but this time I have not forgotten. I've double and triple checked. The .fla file is just a document with a list component on it. It will be getting its data from a html page via javascript. Here is my package:

I have x amount of classes in a package eg. "com.trevorboyle.lotsofclasses" and I keep adding more (These classes will probably all be static and will probably all extend the same class).I wish to create a drop-down list of all these classes, preferably without having to manually create an array myself.
Once a class is selected from the list, I'll be able to use getDefinitionByName to return it, because I will know it's name at this point.The question is, as I believe there is no support in AS3 to list all the classes in a specific package, is there a design pattern that handles this?
So basically i have my root folder with my fla and my document class in it, then I have a folder called 'main' with another class in it (Control)
But I can't seem to import my main.Control into my document class... (I would like to create an instance)

I am currently trying to develop an application in Flash.Currently I am working on trying to contact a webservice to get a list of course names.I am getting the results but I cannot even parse them. In the schema for my Web Services Connector, it prepopulates to say that it expects the results to be ArrayOfAnyType.So I have this code in my on( result) call:

Now, when I try to go through that XML object and print values using this script:

From what I have gathered in the help menu, Flash has two types of XML nodes, a node, and a textNode.nodeValue will always be nukll for a node but on a text node it will return what you would expect and I don't know that I can convert between the two or force it one way or another.I don't have a clue why it is like that but apparently that is how it works.What can i do to get this data in?
Is there some way to get it to parse as an array? As far as we can tell, it should be going from the webservice as an Array, SOAP should convert to XML and then Flash should decode back to an array... it doesn't seem to be working that way though.

This is my first time working with a class attached to a movieclip that is nested inside a class attached to a movie clip.I've tested all the properties and methods of PTListItem.as and they work properly but when I try to call them on the list item through PTListTop.as it returns undefined.The end goal is to dynamically load a checklist via a txt file.

View 10 RepliesI am trying to create a list of names which is generated by a swf file that contains buttons representing letters of the alphabet. The user generates a name by clicking on the letter buttons until the letters of the name have been spelled out and then clicking on abutton to add each name to the list. The names are generated inside the swf file but I want the list of names to be deposited in a file within a folder of the computer and remain there as a permanent record after the swf file has been closed. I can do the Actionscript 3 programming associated with the letter buttons but I would like to know how to send the names to the computer file.

I'm trying to compile a decent .zwl file for squiggly spell checking in Flex; using British words, not American as supplied by default.
Ive managed to create a decent British list of words and ran them through the AdobeSpellingGen app to get a .zwl; great stuff.
However i need to add into this list a list of names, so they wont be flagged.
Does anyone know of a good source of either free, or paid for list of English Fore and surnames? Im trying BT as i type :)
i have a website like ustream, where user can register and create live channels and publish live video using FMLE.
Now i want to check wether a particular channel is online or offline. I have stream name for particular channel. My website is coded in PHP. I have tried using getLiveStreamStats function, it works fine where the XML file is not heavy. I mean number of subscribers are less. Then i can just check the Publisher Tag. if it exists that means stream video is live, else not.
But problem arrives when the number of subscribers are high. The XML file do not loads in PHP, and it takes too much time to load the page.
what can be done to just check if the xml file has publisher tag. and display if the stream is live or not
I want to retrieve the list of live stream name.

I'm using CS3 with ActionScript 3. I'm a designer by training and have been tossed into coding by happenstance. My perfect scenario: User sees an easily navigable list of colors, each with swatch (like a small square) and name (text). (I basically want something like the InDesign color swatch list, in dropdown or list form.) She selects a color. Appropriate movie clip is filled with said color. First of all I'm not even sure what component to use. I had a ComboBox that was working great except for only showing color names, not swatches. I could use a custom data provider with the ColorPicker, but the user needs to see our assigned color names.
Is a TileList my best bet? If so, how do I set up a TileList with color swatches and names to then change the color of a movie clip when the user selects a color? I can make it work (except for swatches showing) with my data provider set up with color name in the label spot and hex value in the data spot, with simple code of this sort:

I wrote a class that performs an asynchronous loop. It needs a package name. I already have a util package, but feel resistant to put half of my classes in that package. If it really belongs there, I'll put it there, but I'd feel much better if I can find a more appropriate/specific package.

I have a photo gallery, with a thumbnail panel (a photo viewer page) that I made, coding the AS3 from the key frame. It just so happens that I saw some class files online that have some good stuff in the tutorial.I've never really worked with .as files and I am intimidated by them.Would it be easier to modify my photo gallery, with a thumbnail panel, from key frame to .as AS3 code or to go from .as to key frame code? I personally feel more comfortable with key frame AS3, but I am not scared to dabble.How can I practice adding a couple of class files to my key frame AS3 code- I'm using regular variables, but the interesting idea I saw uses private variables and public functions, and it imports some stuff?
