1 - SWF must have ability to loading binary data from any domain.
2 - SWF cant load policy XML file from url, cause upload form allows me only to upload swf files, so I cant include any other data.
I tried:
Security.allowDomain("*");
But it works only for SWF files.I tried to embed policy XML file:
var dataXML:XML =
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- http://www.foo.com/crossdomain.xml -->
<cross-domain-policy>
[code]....
This will make an security error, if file is from different domain than SWF file.Its possible to get binary data from JavaScript using ExternatInterface in AS3 code.Here is cross-browser library for reading files binary: binary reader and later version jDataView.

I'm trying to send about 1 MB of binary data to server via URLLoader. But when I call method load of this class, my application hangs for about 1-1.5 seconds, then uploading runs normally. How can I prevent it?

Im creating flash game that have the functionality to capture/record its gameplay that can be viewed later by the user, like a replay.
As for now Im already able to record the game and write it into a flv format in a ByteArray variable.
What Im working right now is how to send that ByteArray(the video file) to a php script and save it to a web server.
I've run into the URLLoader in flash where it can send the data and php will receive it thru the POST method. Unfortunately, the ByteArray containing the flv data must be first correclty encoded for php to read it. I figured this out from the example in the net where it does the same thing only that it is only sending a JPEG ByteArray instead of a FLV format using the JPEGENCODER.
Is there any existing class like the JpegEncoder for FLV format or any Video formats? Or any work around like creating the encoder my self?
here is my current code to send the ByteArray
//send byteArray to a php script
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;

does anybody have a good explanation of the as operator? On one hand it seems to me, that it is often better to use as instead of instantiating a new object.But then there are situations, when this operator let's me down. For example when loading a text file in XML format through an URLLoader:
private function completeHandler(event:Event):void {
var loader:URLLoader = URLLoader(event.target);
trace("completeHandler: " + loader.data);[code]...
Why do I have to use a constructor here? Why can't I say var x:XML = loader.data as XML; and save some memory?

I have this odd situation, let me provide some background: - I have SWF and PHP files on a shared host, along with a MySQL database - I'm using urlloader requests to interact with the database via the PHP files.Everything works for me as expected. However, the end user is having trouble. Basically, none of the urlloader requests actually make a request - I'm basing this on all of the *.php requests in the access log from my IP, and none from his IP. I had him load one of the PHP files directly, and it came up fine, so I've ruled out firewall/security problems on the OS level.
Now - what could possibly cause this? He has 3 machines running XP and win 7 (all with the same issue), and he's using IE8 with the latest flashplayer. I've set up an XP virtual machine with IE8 and also the latest flash player and it works fine. I've also tested on a separate laptop running Vista. I've also tested with chromium and FF3 under linux and FF3.6 under XP (flashplayer versions 9 and the current 10.x) and everything works hereI've tried a crossdomain.xml file allowing from *, allowing from the domain where the files are hosted, and no crossdomain.xml file at all.

i have a large text file full of several chunks of binary data, each chunk separated by "---"
so it looks like this:
[Code]...
I have loaded the data in an untyped variable. var data:* = URLLoader(event.target).data; so data contains all the text file content. my problem is that i want to parse this text file and put each chunk of binary data into a ByteArray.
any ideas of how i can go about doing that? i have never dealt with untyped variables before so i am not sure what to do. and i don't want to lose the binary data representation by casting (if that happens).

I have a website that is all flash. I have a main file that loads in the nav and then the nav loads in the designated .swf file for each section. So there are several sections(.swf's) with lots of text taken from a database and inserted into the swf file from
an XML file. If I click in between sections, and go back to the original section of text the formatting is lost. This is only in Internet Explorer 7- this does not happen in Firefox or on the Mac.

This is my first post in this forum and I'll try to best explain my problem. I'm working on a AS3(AIR) application, i.e., some text transposer. Let's say I have a dynamic textbox (some previously transposed data), in which I have the following content:
PHP Code:
-1.66419-1.65539-1.63308-1.47002-1.42859 1.00165 1.00633 1.00963 1.01368 1.01833
Next to this text box, I have another dynamic text box, where I want to put these numeric values, i.e., to generate an XML tree by clicking a button (calling a function), which have the following structure:

I've noticed that when I use NetConnection.call(methodName) in my client Actionscript it sends a POST request off to the server. I thought this was odd because requests for data are normally GET operations but I didn't worry about it because it doesn't impact my applicationow I have our sysadmin complaining about the amount of data I'm shifting over POST requests because POST requests aren't cached by the web servers (and we are working with the kind of traffic levels where that matters.) Is there anyway I can make call() use GET?The code I'm using is all fairly standard, but here is the relevant snippit:
var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
nc.addEventListener(SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, securityErrorHandler);

I have a custom socket class designed to connect to a server and talk with it. At one point, the server uses hex data for speed, however Flash seems to not get ANY of this data. In fact, it doesn't get ANY of the data from that point to the next packet.

I wrote an image editor for my cms and wanted to send the image respectively the through the BitmapData's getPixels()-method received ByteArray to a PHP-script that displays and finally saves the image. Obviously I didn't succeed. How do I have to encode my binary data so that PHP is able to read it and how do I have to treat the bytes in PHP? I also tried encoding the image data with the corelib classes from [URL] but it didn't work as well.

We have a system that allows a user to upload any image, which we store on the server. Of course, it is simple to load an image (that you know the path to) using loadMovie, but I also want to load certain pieces of meta data about the image that is precalculated and stored on the server; we may one day want to retrieve things completely unrelated to the image as well, so consider the non-image data to be arbitrary.So, that said, is there a way to simply return the image as a variable (urlencoded and returned in a loadVars request, perhaps) and then load that data into a movie clip?
Bonus Lightning Round Question: Is there a way to check the output of a PHP script which processes uploads when the request is sent via FileReference.upload(url:String)? Should I load/escape the binary data and then send it using a loadVars() request if I want to see the output?

Sometimes flash-socket ignors data which is being sent by server. I dunna know exactly if it's server-side problem(data actually aint being sent) or flash.How does flash handle numerous of data packages comming from server ? I know that flash perform all actions in single thread, but what happen when flash recive a lot of packages at same time ? Does flash serialize incomming packages and then call ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA for each package or just ignore those packages which cant be handled runtime ?

I would need to save some binary data (bitmap data or similar) as a part of XML file.[code]...

unpacking data from a binary string. I realized it with a php code:
list($empty,$size) = unpack( 'V', fread($socket,4) ); $theresult = fread($socket,$size);
But how can i do this in as3 ? I didnīt find a possibilty to encode "unsigned long (always 32 bit, little endian byte order)". Is there a option like unpack in as3 ?

I've got XML data in AS3 that needs to be compressed, validated on my Java Google App Engine servlet then saved to a file in Google Cloud Storage. Later that file will be opened and decompressed by the AS3 client. The process works if I do it with plain XML or text, but if I ByteArray#compress the data, it dies during ByteArray#uncompress with "There was an error decompressing the data".
I've tried setting the content type and mime type at various points, as well as encoding with Base64, but every attempt seems to break in a different way and I never get the same XML back that I sent in. Do I need to use multipart? Should I compress on the server? [code]...
