Actionscript :: Flex Custom Menu Functionality

Does anyone know of a way to keep a menu open after clicking one of its menu items? I have a custom menu (extended the menu object) it contains a bunch of check type menu items, the requirement I am trying to fulfill is to allow the user to click multiple menu items without the menu closing, and then have the menu close when it loses focus, is this possible? If it is can someone please explain how it can be done (pref. with a small example).

Inside the iframes are two images from a Flash presentation for Arm & Hammer. I am doing something similar for them and need to duplicate, if possible, the menuing seen here. All I have is the SWF file, which I don't want to put up on the web. For one thing it's pretty big and I don't want to make people sit through it just to get to the menu.
The menu appears as a row of circles. When you mouse over the circles, they expand, and a submenu structure appears. In the example shown here, in Pic 2, I have put my cursor on the PRICING / SPEC SHEETS link. You can see that two sub menu choices appear PRICING and SPECS. These are simply links to downloadable PDFs, no big deal.

I have a Flex application, running with Flash Player, not AIR, that contains a Tree that I would like to put a custom context menu on.
Tried just doing <mx:Tree ... contextMenu="{MyClassWithStatic.menu}">, but that didn't do anything.
Went searching, and found this quote from some Adobe docs somewhere
In Flex or Flash Builder, only top-level components in the application can have context menus. For example, if a DataGrid control is a child of a TabNavigator or VBox container, the DataGrid control cannot have its own context menu.
so went upwards, trying each parent element until I reached my <Application>-element, which is consistent with what they wrote.
Tried making a Flex component, based on Group (the default) which contained my tree, and the context menu on the top-level element there, hoping it would work, but to no avail.
Is there any other way to manage this that I haven't found yet?

I have a Label in AS3 that I want to be selectable (.selectable = true) AND I want the clipboardMenu to show up on right-click ALONG with custom menu items.
If I do THIS:

label.text = "test";
label.selectable = false;

The label IS selectable - however ONLY the clipboard menu items are present.
How can I both make the label selectable AND have a menu with my custom items + standard clipboard items?
BTW - this is with an AIR application using the 3.2 SDK.

I have a custom flv player and i'm slowly adding more functionality to it as I go along but i've hit a wall.I want to add a subtitle button that toggles between show/hide. I've seen on the internet that the best way is to use an XML file (holding the script, times etc.), which I have no problem writing.I'm having problems trying to replicate the 'FLVPlaybackCaptioning' component (in Flash CS3) in to my custom flv player. I.E. Adding the right actionscript to my toggle button.

My Flex 3 application uses a custom cursor and has to show a customized context menu when the user performs a right click. The problem is the customized menu is shown only when the default arrow cursor is shown. When I change it to the custom cursor, the standard context menu appears instead of the customized one.
Is there a way to have both custom cursor and customized context menu in a flash application?

I created a flyout menu from this tutorial: [URL]. It basically created buttons within a movie clip for animation. Everything works great, but I cannot get the dropdown buttons to go to frames outside of the movie clip. Within the movie clip I am adding script to the dropdown buttons as follows:
on (release) {
gotoAndStop("Scene 1",10);
}
But it won't work. The buttons only seem to be able to go to frames within the movie clip such as:
on (release) {
gotoAndStop(10);
}

Very close to finishing this XML menu gallery. Pieced together with Kirupas gallery tutorial and "Claudio's" scrolling script. The layout is complete but unfortunately the functionality (hardest-part) is not.
So what I'm hoping to accomplish... ?
1. Multi gallery functionality (i.e.. menu sys.. Ad / Catalogs / Logo's).
Currently the XML is only set up to load the Advert section and the menu on the right does not yet work independently. In the end i hope to have it load other sections based on the description "Catalogs" would load the catalog section.
2. Simplifying my XML (i.e.. Write it so it's more clearly defined)
I included an example of the XML file I would like to utilize with my FLA. Unfortunately the way the AS is set up currently, I can't simply swap this file out. I'm baffled about the script that drives this functionality.
3. Add NEW feature. (i.e.. Make the menu on right "Ads / Catalogs / Logos") populate with dynamic text from the XML (i.e.. <gallery name="ADVERTS"> ). At the moment this is being populated with an image which proves to be more time consuming to make.
4. "Info" area... need to populate this with text relating to individual parts of gallery.
5. "View"... need to give a larger view of this file on click or rollover - opening another window in flash.
OK, now that i read through this... looks like I have farther to go then I thought.Anyway,I Hope i haven't scared all you flash pro's off...I know this stuff isn't very cut and dry seeing there's many ways to achieve the same goal. Ideally I would like to learn the most efficient method for doing this.

i wanted to place some credits item in the right button menu (no links, so no events, just a label with credits). i was looking the contextmenu help, and there is an example of how to add items, disable default items and so on, but i could not find how to attach the menu to the movie (the basic part). i tried both on 'stage' and it tells me that stage does not have a property called contextMenu, so i tried to attach it to a sprite, it runs ok and compiles ok but when i right click on the sprite i get the default menu

This is NOT duplicate of my earlier post (its is slightly different)But this is similar issue with similar error but its not the same error The error I am getting now is below while dispatching the custom event from my custom component
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert events::MapEvent@a74ab51 to flash.events.MouseEvent.
dispatchEvent(new MapEvent(MapEvent.CLICKED_ON_MAP));
Note: The error in my earlier post is giving below error message
Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@81ecb79 to com.events.ShopEvent
The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.

is there any library for Action Script 3 that allows my AIR application to function like a version control (svn or cvs or something similar) client?
I just want to use the download functionality. my app relies on some folder and file structure that may change through updates and it'd be great if i could simply manage a subversion repository online and the application would automatically sync it's filestructure to this repository.

The spark panel component for example can be written like this

The motivation here is that I can now create a couple different skin files to change the look and layout of those subgroups. Reading source of the spark panel, there are some calls within the mx_internal namespace such as getMXMLContent() which is a method of the spark group component, but which I have no access to.
Does the description above make sense? How can I create custom 'contentGroups' in my custom Flex4 component that can use nested mxml child components? Should I approach this a different way?

I have downloaded Eclipse - Helios and it is working perfectly. I am having a little trouble understanding the Flex functionality with Eclipse. Is it possible to download a Flex plugin or whatever it is called free of charge to develop and compile mxml and actionscipt files without having to purchase FlexBuilder 3 or 4 at a price of $600. I am under the impression that Eclipse is a free download and and Flexsdk is a free download. Can't they be put together into one tool? I cant afford the $600.

What's the best way to organize functionality modules in a flex project? I saw some people put all modules in one view stack ,and so the application interface is only load once, but when the application get larger, the whole compiled swf would be very big. If we put swfs in different pages, we pass request parameters through HTTP request, we lost the benefits from flex RPC services, slow loading, and we can't see any superior comparing to php,asp,jsp... what's the best practice to organize front end architecture?

I have an application in which when i click on a particular tab an HTTPService having id="service" is sent. This service calls a php file which in turn extracts data from a table and return as xml string to Flex. Flex then use DataGrid's dataprovider attribute to show the data in the dataGrid.Can i have a functionality of a timer which will call the HTTPService again and again after each 5 minutes?

Loads an image to an Image component Transform the image (rotate, flip) with the Matrix Apply filter(s)
Now I am thinking about to create some undo redo functionality. Each time I do a transformation / add an filter I want to be able to go back to the previous image (before the action).
My thought is to have an Array and add the previous bitmap to the stack. But I see that there are some differences between transformations and filters I have also seen the ImageSnapshot and whot i can do and it looks like what I am after.

The main purpose of mine is that for all the popup windows shown to end user all of them be closed when the escape key is pressed and all of them be closed upon click of the closebutton displayed at the titlebar.
But on the "escape key" press nothing is happening.

I have a for loop that I'm trying to display multiple popups with.
I seem to have multiple popups appearing on the screen, but after I'm done and close the top popup all the buttons on the others below it seem to stop functioning.
How can I make all the popups retain their functionality after the one before is closed?
Here's the code that I'm using to add the popups:

I have the following situation:I have an event handler, that displays small messages in my application's statusbar.These messages get passes through by dispatching events from custom components.A simple message could be like "HTTP Error" or so.Now, the main event listener, in the main application file, listens to the event dispatched by any custom component,but seems to refuse listening to events dispatched by custom AS classes.Here is my code for the custom event:

So to sum it all up:
- The event listener listens to the custom event dispatched by any custom component.
- The event listener does not listen to the custom event duspatched by an AS class.
Those who wonder, the event really gets dispatched, that's why I added a trace call.
