View 1 RepliesI'm looking for a way to extend the functionality of the HTMLEditor control that the Ajax Control Toolkit supplies for ASP.net. I would like to add video and flash functionality to the editor (buttons, allowed tags, etc).
To my knowledge, this is rather easy: plop in an embed tag with the correct parameters and it just works; I have videos running in the preview window of the editor.
Unfortunately, the tag is stripped away when saving the HTML-code and updating it in the database.
Hence, I would like to ask if there is any way of adding this functionality apart from manually adding the changes in the source control repository of the Ajax Control Toolkit and recompiling it.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to implement an inventory functionality into my program, i.e. equipping and taking items off a player character. I have created a superclass named 'Item' which I would like another two classes to inherit from. Those would be 'Weapon' and 'Armor' classes. The superclass 'Item' contains at this moment a list of variables that can describe any item, e.g. name, slot, armor, damage, durability. No methods have yet been added. My question is: if my superclass holds all the properties of an item, how exactly would those properties be inhertied by the other two classes? Is it even a good idea? My initial thought was to create a motherclass to hold all the variables and later methods, you could name it a 'variable pool', wherefrom each one could be used by other classes, but it makes me wonder if's going to be of any use. If you don't mind, would you create for me two short code snippets to show me how a superclass can cooperate with its subclasses?
View 1 RepliesIn terms of HTTP request performance should I pick AJAX or Flash? To be more specific, I'm more into Flash than AJAX and I'm currently working on a wide scale web project. I wanted to try AJAX out for once and now it's getting too messy for me. Before it gets more complicated I thought may be I can run Flash on the background for HTTP Requests and use it with javascript. I couldn't find any benchmark on the Internet, but I think AJAX is faster than Flash. So what's your personal experience? Is there too much difference between Flash and AJAX?

After that, flash contact PHP with ajax but request is never sent. When you refresh page, everything is working without any problems.If you remove the application on privacy settings, refresh the page and try again -same bug happens.If you allow application, refresh page, in other tab remove application and start application in previous tab - user is asked for permissions but everything is working after allowing application.This is FBJS code

openPermissions is called to display permission dialog, and on allow flash function allow() is called. In flash, allow() calls JS function ajaxCall(), which should make ajax request. But, ajax.post never sends request. I know that for sure, because flash function parseAjax was never called and also debugging tools in browsers are not showing any ajax requests. URL and parameters are same as when it is working. No flash or JS errors are detected...

I'm new to Flex/ActionScript (.NET/Java has been my main playground so far).I'm trying to build a Flex app that has a list that is meant to look and behave like an infinite list (of items - which can be any object). The idea is that the user should be able to scroll up or down and never reach the end of the list in either direction.
An example would be a list of numbers. Scrolling up will show negative numbers; scrolling down will show positive ones. Now, my list is a simple Flex Spark list (using Flex Hero).It is bound to a data provider that is an ArrayList.My initial idea was to listen to the scroll event and add/remove items as needed. However, in the current build of Flex Hero, there is a bug that doesn't raise scroll events for vertical scrollbars sometimes (http:url].....).So, I'm using the workaround suggested in the link above (i.e listening to the propertyChanged event of the list's scroller's viewport. The event though only gives me the current verticalScrollPosition. And it looks like the default spark list supports smooth scrolling and raises the event many times before the list scrolling comes to a standstill (it is a nice visual effect).Now, I need to :
Figure out whether it is scrolling up or down (how do I do that?)
Figure out which items are visible. I can get this from:
list.dataGroup.getItemIndicesInView()
Add/remove items as needed, so that the user can scroll up and down forever, never reaching the end of the list in either direction.

I need to make a flash game which has almost 1K 50x50 bitmaps moving on screen(more than 10K display object in display list), and want to know if flash can support it well on a normal PC with at least 30FPS.

I would like to display a spinning image, when my application is not connected to the socket server and is in an "offline" state.
So I've tried using an ajax-loader.gif, courtesy of http://www.ajaxload.info/

but unfortunately the bitmap is not animated (does not spin).
Is there a way to do that, how do you approach displaying a "loading indicator" in your Flex 4.5 programs?

My flex project uses FA-Bridge, and apparently in Safari browser I cannot call any of my public AS functions that have arguments passed in. For example I can call this AS function from javascript:

In the above call safari throws an error # 1063, (i.e. Argument count mismatch) in the safari javascript console, and points to line 561 in FaBridge.js. It thinks I didn't pass in the requied parameters. Now the above issue exists only on Safari. Both of the above approaches work on IE, Firefox and Chrome browsers. Note: I am NOT using swfObject for embedding my swf.
Is it easy to implement Flex Ajax Bridge with ColdFusion? Where can I learn how to use it? My frontend is pure HTML+JS and I just need the push capability. Is there a way to locally cache the 3D map tiles and data so that I can run this app without an internet connection? And if not, is there a 3D GIS that supports Flex integration and allows for a local map cache?

Is it possible to download a Flex plugin or whatever it is called free of charge to develop and compile mxml and actionscipt files without having to purchase FlexBuilder 3 or 4 at a price of $600. I am under the impression that Eclipse is a free download and and Flexsdk is a free download. Can't they be put together into one tool? I cant afford the $600.

i was windering if its possible to use ajax from flash? so the flash game sendds the score/ result to the page and only parts of it change, (developers can even choose to force pause the game for 5 seconds so the user registers/ submits score etc)
and then can continue. now what happens in page changes, then you need to return to the page and wait for flash swf file to load again ...
I have a function that restores all of the default settings of my application. This process can take a bit of time, so I would like to implement a "Please wait..." modal popup to let the user know that everything is alright and the program hasn't frozen. Once the function completes its task, I'd like for it to remove the message, and resume normal behavior.
