Jan 18, 2012I'm trying to implement an inventory functionality into my program, i.e. equipping and taking items off a player character. I have created a superclass named 'Item' which I would like another two classes to inherit from. Those would be 'Weapon' and 'Armor' classes. The superclass 'Item' contains at this moment a list of variables that can describe any item, e.g. name, slot, armor, damage, durability. No methods have yet been added. My question is: if my superclass holds all the properties of an item, how exactly would those properties be inhertied by the other two classes? Is it even a good idea? My initial thought was to create a motherclass to hold all the variables and later methods, you could name it a 'variable pool', wherefrom each one could be used by other classes, but it makes me wonder if's going to be of any use. If you don't mind, would you create for me two short code snippets to show me how a superclass can cooperate with its subclasses?

Nov 2, 2010I'm trying to add a custom callback handler to a NetStream client in a p2p application. The problem is, when I add such a handler, the NetStream Client doesn't function as it did before. It seems the NetStream.client object is changed. I know the default object is this. But changing the client to this doesn't solve the problem. The remoteControlStream, is the incoming stream. And the localControl stream is the stream being published. This is the localControlStream that's being send by the peer, and received as remoteControlStream:

The onPeerConnect method of the localControlStream doesn't get called when I connect when the above handler is added. When I remove the that handler, the onPeerConnect method gets called. Obviously the problem is the NetStream.client.

Javascript :: ShowSettings Callback In Flex?
Mar 24, 2010I am pretty new to flex, so forgive me if this is an obvious question.Is there a way to open the Security.showSettings (flash.system.Security) with a callback? or at least to detect if it is currently open or not? My flex application is used for streaming audio, and is normally controlled by javascript, so I keep it hidden for normal use (via absolute positioning it off the page).
When I need microphone access I need to make the flash settings dialog visible, which works fine, I move it into view and open the dialog. When the user closes it, I need to move it back off the screen so they don't see an empty flex app sitting there after they change their settings.

Flex :: Not Receiving Event.Complete Callback
Feb 12, 2010I created an image uploader for an app I am working on. I first used php for the server side script, and everything worked fine. I found out afterwards I had to use .net, so I created new serverside scripts. The problem I am having is that my event.COMPLETE listener is never firing. I can receive data back using a DATAEVENT listener, but then it stops at this error:
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2036: Load Never Completed.
Here is how I am sending my file.

Flex :: Event Listener Callback Not Firing?
Jun 17, 2011In our app, I am periodically noticing that a particular event handler is not firing. 99% of the time, it works fine, but, every so often, it just dies. How can I find out whats happening? Is the DispatchEvent() not happening/working somehow? Is my listener still listening? Did something else catch the event, and not pass it along so that the 'right' listener can get to it ?
Here's a little bit of the code...
Thats a somewhat pruned down version of what the real code is, but I don't think I trimmed out anything important. The key, as I see it is that we fire up the params dialog, then start to listen for the closed event. Then, we show the param dialogs close function. What happens when it fails is that the trace message "caught close event.." is never generated, and, consequently, the closeHandler is not getting called at all.

However if I uncomment and run the alert first. I get no error and it works perfectly.My first thought was that the alert was buying time until the script could execute, so i tried to run the script inside a setTimeout() but did not work.

The second paramter (i) for imageLoaded is always 1, I guess because i no longer exists and is defaulting to 1. Is it possible to get that second paramter to be evaluated when the load is started rather than on complete?

Edit : It's possible to add an event handler without any arguments in mxml. So one student wanted to know, why isn't it possible to do the same in actionscript?

When the program starts, (on initialize) loads from a server (via HTTPService) some data that includes different styles for the Group, and it may also include different color/width for the Path stroke. Aug 17, 2010I am writing a Flex application for use on a private intranet with no external Internet access. I want to use Google's 3D Maps Flex API, but it must be connected to the internet to download map tiles on demand.
Is there a way to locally cache the 3D map tiles and data so that I can run this app without an internet connection? And if not, is there a 3D GIS that supports Flex integration and allows for a local map cache?

Is it possible to download a Flex plugin or whatever it is called free of charge to develop and compile mxml and actionscipt files without having to purchase FlexBuilder 3 or 4 at a price of $600. I am under the impression that Eclipse is a free download and and Flexsdk is a free download. Can't they be put together into one tool? I cant afford the $600.

I saw some people put all modules in one view stack ,and so the application interface is only load once, but when the application get larger, the whole compiled swf would be very big. If we put swfs in different pages, we pass request parameters through HTTP request, we lost the benefits from flex RPC services, slow loading, and we can't see any superior comparing to php,asp,jsp... what's the best practice to organize front end architecture?
