Actionscript :: How Do "States" Work In Flash Builder And Flex?
Dec 15, 2010
I'm a little unclear as to how "states" work in Flex and Flash Bilder 4. Are states like "frames" in Flash Pro, or am I getting them wrong?
How would I show difference "screens" to a user? (login, admin panel - settings, main menu)I take it that I need to use states, but I haven't figured out how to do so. Should I be using Actionscript somewhere, something else?
While in Design mode in Flash Builder 4 (gumbo, beta 2), is it possible to edit multiple states at once? In the "states" window, it would seem like I should be able to shift-select multiple states so changes made will affect all the selected states, and if all are selected it will not add the state selector to the property in the mxml tag. No?
I'm trying to use the Profiler for the first time so I don't know much about it. But it doesn't seem to work.I run my project under profiler, it says it is running, but no window shows up. Nothing. I can see the project's icon down there but I see no window at all.Can this be cause by the fact that I'm using Flex 4.5? You can the app in the dock and it shows its live objects, but I don't see the apps' window and cannot interact with it. The app is just a simple 400x400 window with some black shapes in it.
I am creating a android app using adobe air (flex sdk 4.6.0) and i am trying to find out what the width of the phone screen is in pixels. So I am fallowing the tutorial here but when ever i copy the code into my project and click run it always gives me this error "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference." and goes to the line that has stage.stageWidth I have also tried stage.width but it does the same thing. So does stage.stageWidth no longer work or how do you tell the screen size of the tablet or phone? Was it replaced with something else for phones? I am trying to get the information so i can center images in the center of the screen using action script.[code]
I am using progressive streaming with VideoDisplay, the HTTP URL provided gets buffered completely even if I have configured it to start playing the video when the buffering reaches 20%, the trace message shows that the playing started(using mozilla /Flashbug+Firebug), but it doesnot show the video till the buffercounter reaches 100% How can I get the video stream to play at the 20% of stream.Code Segment where the check takes place
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the new Package Explorer window in Flash Builder emulate Flex Builders 'Flex navigator' window?
Bottom line is I don't always need to peer into SWC's, and I don't like having a 'default package' automatically created for me. Not sure why the interface wasn't made simpler, allowing access to more power and complexity only if necessary. I want to focus on the code, not on how to navigate and use the bells and whistles in the coding environment.
I have an AIR application i'm trying to release with flexbuilder. Launching application has no problem ... bin-debug dir is correctly filled with my files. But when i want to create the AIR file (export release fuild), AIR files content view is empty and bin-debug directory is never filled.
I just upgraded to Flash Builder 4 (beta 2) from Flex Builder 3 which I have been using since it came out. Problem: All the projects that were in my workspace from Flex Builder 3 did not carry over into Flash Builder 4 (e.g. in the "Flex Navigator" view if FB3). Flash Builder 4 now uses the .FXP format to manage projects, but Flex Builder 3 did not. Is there an easy way to get all my projects back into Flash Builder 4?
I have an app that I am currently using a viewstack to display each page and I am wondering is this the right way to go, or should I use different states (or something else).
The site is powered by a menu bar with the top level items of Home, Tools, Support. Underneath the Tools menu is a submenu with Tool1, Tool2, Tool3. Currently when the user clicks on any of the tools in the Tool submenu I bring up a child container from the viewstack (each child is actually in a separete component).
I have an AIR project that I was working on Flash Builder 4.5 which now I'm trying to import to my updated Flash Builder 4.5.1 and it is prompting me to fix some paths before the import is completed. I'm kinda clueless what I should put in those fields.
[URL]
The project access a web server to retrieve data using JSON.
In my flex project i used one option like Link button . If i like it will be open new page contain more information and components . Which container is suitable one ? Where is used viewstack and stages ?
I am trying to migrate a project from Flash Builder 4.0 to Flash Builder 4.5. After Flash Builder prompts me to choose my new SDK, I choose 4.5, Then I get the following error:" error "The required skin state 'disabledWithPrompt' is missing".
I have created a simple "Hello World" Application using Flash Builder Burrito SDK. I have tested the result in the emulator it is working great. After that I deployed the application using "Export Release Build Option" and entered valid certificate details and created the .apk file. I copied the .apk file into the device and i run the application. I am unable to run the app. I have tried these in 3 android supported devices and in each of these I am getting different error messages.
I have mentioned the device in which I have tested and the error message I got while I tried to install the app (.apk file). HTC Desire - "Error while parsing the package of the application" Samsung Galaxy Tab - "Error while parsing the package of the application" LG Optimus one (LG P500) - "Application not installed"
I have created a New Mobile Project in the flash SDK and added simple label "HELLO WORLD" in the view section. Before deploying I have installed Adobe AIR 2.5 in the device. I need to know whether any restrictions are there for applications developed using Flash Burrito Preview Release. (whether by default all android mobile version more than 2.1 will support it?) Also when I try to install "Tour De Mobile Flex" apk in LG Optimus, it is saying "Device not supported" message. How do I overcome these problems to run the apk file without any problems.
I have a trial version of flash builder (eclipse plug-in) and registered flash cs5 proI'm trying to open a new AS3 class like in this tutorial: [URL]nd it doesn't work.at first it did asked if I want to edit the file in flash builder or not, and it didnt work.now it won't even ask.and also I cant open a flash proffessional project in flash builder, it says "This feature requires Adobe Flash CS5 or higher to be installed."but it is installed!
I am having trouble with a job I am doing at the moment which has an mc with buttons within it. I want it so that when I roll over the mc it tweens from a small version to a larger version, and on this mc there are some buttons. At the moment I can get the mc to move but the buttons remain inactive and also the rollover states on the buttons don't work. I have attached a simpler version of what I am trying to do to this post.
When setting up a source control repository for a Flex Builder workspace, what do you consider to be worth checking in? Do you exclude the workspace .metadata folder but keep the .project and other project specific files? Keep both? Throw away both? Is there a guideline you use to decide which is worth holding onto or do you do it out of practical experience?
I'm working in Flex 4.1, and I have a viewstack and tabbar as my main navigation. A user logs into the application and should then only be able to see what tabs are available to his user level.I am trying to stick with MXML as much as possible, since it works well with the framework. But I'm goin numb thinking about this. What are the common practices for doing this?FYI: the user level is slightly to complex for states. There are lots of options, way to many to comfortably do w/ states and state groups.
Chimp is a pretty cool library for those interested. It's a little old and there doesn't seem to be much motivation to expand it past UIComponents. So for my purposes it wont do.Again, what do you do for setting up these systems?PDATE: I had to compromise, but it actually worked out pretty well in the end. Instead of destructively laying on permissions (having everything available at first and removing the elements thereafter), the system now works constructively. Here's a sample:
[Bindable] public var managePage:ManagePage; [Bindable]
I'm interested in finding out the best approach to this issue, it's not technically difficult but there must be an elegant solution. Basically i have a form that features mostly text inputs, i would like to change the style of the input boxes based on the current state. I can do this in the mxml on each input...
From a video on AdobeTV, I tried to play with example empWeb (LiveCycle Data Services). In Flex Builder 3 (FB3) everything works fine. When I tried this on Flash Builder 4.0 Beta (FB4) it doesn't work. When I replaced original xmlns declarations (2009, spark, halo)with declarations from FB3 (2006) it works. Could you explain why?I'm using the default SDKs (Flex 3.2 for FB3 and Flex 4.0 for FB4). I investigated this (please see 3 source code examples). Source #1 works OK in FB3 and FB4, Source #2 gives a FB4 compilation error message: [code]
I have a Flex module created in Flash Builder 4 as a swf file. I am trying to load and run in within a Flash application. I can get the module loaded but I can not get the flash application to access any module functions. Here is how I load the module in Flash and the error I get. If I change the module to an application type swf then it loads and runs but now I have two applications on top of each other. I would like the loaded module swf to be able to have access the Flash stage object.
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property application not found on MyModule__mx_core_FlexModuleFactory and there is no default value. var loader:Loader = new Loader();
I'm trying to work out how to use states in my Flex app.I've created two states, State1 and Stage 2. Both are based off the base state. I've created a few visual elements for State1, and given each of them includeIn="State1".But when I'm in design mode and click on State2, these elements are still visible? If I try to delete them while State2 is selected, all that happens is RemoveChild is added to the State2 tag.
I have the following panel component called AdvancedPanel with controlBarContent:
<!-- AdvancedPanel.mxml --> <s:Panel> <s:states>
[Code]....
Using the CustomAdvancedPanel inside an application component shows an empty panel with the "Go to edit" button. But when I click it, the "Extra edit button" becomes visible, but the "Show in edit" button inside the controlBar doesn't.
When the CustomAdvancedPanel is empty, without redeclared states and "Extra edit button" the panel works just fine.
I think it is because the State object declared in AdvancedPanel isn't the same as CustomAdvancedPanel, so the state is different, even if they have the same name. However. I can't use the states of AdvancedPanel inside CustomAdvancedPanel without (re)declare them in mxml.
Is there any way to achieve this kind of state-reuse? Or is there a better way to obtain the same result?
I am trying to use global application states to manage roles in my application. How can I use <properties.state> everywhere in my application if I declare it in my top level application?
I am creating an interface that has a few different states for the different steps. For those steps, there is data that I am pulling in from a database to fill certain fields. As of right now I am doing one db query to get all of the data back and want to fill in all of the fields at the same time but it is giving me "access to a null object reference".
It seems as though there is a scope issue when you are trying to access a text input field with actionscript when the state that the text input is in, isn't the current state. For Example (This would throw a "Null object reference" error):
I'm developping an mobile program with the Flex 4.5 SDK, this for my thesis for school. I have a bug in my program that I can't fix. I have a view where I have 2 states. When I change from state my program doesn't listen to the backKey event anymore.
I just got CS5 master suite which includes Flash Builder 4 and Flash CS5 Pro. When I create a new AIR app in CS5 pro it says "AIR 2" but when I create a new AIR project in Flash Builder I do not see anything indicating that it is AIR 2 or 1.5?
Is there a way to tell which AIR runtime it is using?
I am using Flash Builder 4 on my MAC. Flex SDK 4.0. Flash Player 10.1.By executing this code below I only see the trace saying "start". And if I look at the Declaration of the ENTER_FRAME is see the error saying: "Source could not be found for flash.events.Event.Enter_Frame in...."But the playerglobal.swc source is there, and I have tried different SDK versions and FP versions. If this is a Flash Builder problem I can not be the only one having this issue?[code]
I was recently profiling my application that uses Degrafa States in the skins and noticed that doing so uses more memory than I expected. Between the SetProperty and State, they were using about 10% of the total used application memory.
Would it be better to use css for the state changes and a new skin for each state? or Are there some simple tips to reducing the memory footprint of degrafa?
