Actionscript :: Pushbutton Engine EventSoundTrigger - Sound Object Is Null When The Component Is Created

May 11, 2011

I'm running into some issues using EventSoundTrigger in Pushbutton Engine I am able to make it work using xml like this:

<component type="com.pblabs.components.basic.EventSoundTrigger" name="Sounds">
<startSound filename="/assets/explosion.mp3" />
</component>

But if I try to write actionscript to do the same I throughs errors. I can't find any examples online to explain how to initialize or use EventSoundTrigger directly in ActionScript. The following throws an error that the sound object is null when the component is created. I figured it out here's the answer:

I am playing around a bit with the PushButton Engine for game development in Flash and have come across a need for a Camera like the Camera that follows Mario in Mario Games. Flashpunk has a nice implementation of it.

Does PushButton have it out of the Box?(I searched for it and didn't find, hence the question here).

Actionscript 3 :: Pushbutton Engine - Repeating/tiling Art Assets Across Sprites?

Apr 9, 2011

So I'm creating a classic side-scroller using the Pushbutton Engine [url] and I want the 'world' bits to be any given size, of course, and the repeat/tile my art assets. I've got the following render setup code as a start:

[Code]...

However, that just takes brick.png and stretches/shrinks it to fill the size of the object. Lame. :) I've spent a bunch of time trying to google how to do this, but I'm perhaps not getting the right terms or some such as I haven't come up with anything. Mostly articles on building tile-based games with PBE. While I'm sure I can hack together something that'll do the trick, I want to make sure I'm doing it the right way such that I get the best performance and what not. where I should be looking to pull of this standard effect?

Flex :: 4 - Null-component - Checking If The Cancel Button Component In The Child Component?

Jun 23, 2011

I have a component "child" which has a cancel button. Now this component is placed in a state called "newChildComp" I also have another component called "parent". In the parent component, i have a button that dispatches an event. Here is the event code:

[Code].....

so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Use The Scroll Pane Component - Getting An Error Error #1009: Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object Reference?

Oct 1, 2007

I am trying to use the scroll pane component and I am having a few teething troubles. I have a scroll pane as a child object of a movie clip which is essentially a 'page', if I display this page it works fine and the scroll pane does too. If I then remove this page from the display list, go to another page and come back by readding it to the display list, I get the following error, even though nothing else has changed:

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at fl.containers::ScrollPane/fl.containers:ScrollPane::endDrag()

The scroll pane is still visible and works correctly, but ideally I'd like to stop this error.

Actionscript 3 :: Why Is Casting Object (null) Not Null

Mar 6, 2012

When you cast null to an object using Object(null), the result is an object.When you cast undefined to an object using Object(undefined), the result is an object.But saying null as Object or undefined as Object remains null.Why is this? I can't find anything in the documentation about this.

The objects that result from these casts can have properties set on and read from them. It's as if the cast created information, or removed whatever special information the null and undefined values have. But there's no indication in the AS3 documentation that the null and undefined special types are actually objects.

Media Server :: JavaScript Engine: How Many Properties Is Too Many For An Object

May 6, 2010

I know the engine is derived from Mozilla SpiderMonkey. I am using an object which properties are IP addresses, i mean literally, as in: object["123.456.789.012"] The object is a map of banned clients. The number of properties approaches several hundreds. I wonder if this is a strain on the engine in any way? The reason I use this is because property lookup is just about the fastest thing you can do, as opposed to say an array with indexes and ip addresses as values, which would be an O(n) operation when doing lookup.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Null Object Not Null

Sep 5, 2009

I am trying to add an EventListener to a MC, but I am getting the 1009 error. My script is referencing a MC that does exist. I have verified that my code is typed correctly, and that my instance names are correct.I am creating a portfolio site. On the first frame I have my main navigation (well, it's actually not the first frame. I alpha-fade everything in so it's really the 6th or 7th, but I'm not sure how pertinent that is). The main navigation works fine (5 movie clips, fyi). Clicking them will move to a different frame, and the information and sub navigation for the frame will fade up. It is the sub navigation that I am having trouble with.[code]

As you can see, it doesn't even get to the function before it gets thrown off. I have verified that the instance names are correct. The script and the MC I am trying to add it too [I/]are[I/] in the same frame, which is what's stumping me. Normally you get 1009 when the object you're trying to reference is not there, but mine is!!Obviously there is something wrong with my EventListener. I am not sure what else do; there is a gap in my understanding of AS.

Flex :: TextField Instance Inside A Button Created In A Separate Layer In Flash Is Null

Mar 25, 2010

I've created an button object in flash. The button contains 2 layers. One is the background image and on top of it is a textField. The textfield is dynamic. I use the button inside a movieclip and I export it in a SWC. The I'm trying to use it in flex.

I'm trying to do this:

var myComponent:MyComponent = new MyComponent();
myComponent.button01.theTextField.text = "Caption";

I get and instance of the button(myComponent.button01 is not null in Flex debugger), but the instance of the textField(myComponent.button01.theTextField) is null and I'm not able to change the text(but the default text appears onscreen). The code is compiled correctly in flex.

I exported the in swc the button control as well. So the button is not the default SimpleButton from Flash, but an derived class generated by flash(with the same name as the symbol defined in flash). It contains theTextField memeber, which is null.

Here is the button timeline(Layer 2 contains the textfield, and the textfield instance is named theTextField):

Arrays :: Declaring A Null Property Within An Object, Or Running A Function Within An Object Declaration

Feb 22, 2011

I have an object which is assigned a number of properties:

var project_array:Array = [];
var slideObject:Object = {
project_title : myXML.projects.project[i].title.toUpperCase(),

[Code].....

but I'm not quite sure where to place this. If I place it outside of the object constructor, I get "term is undefined", I guess because it doesn't know what project_clips_array is - but if I declare project_clips_array in the constructor, it appears to need to be defined, i.e. I can't create a blank property. But I can't place it in the constructor either, because it doesn't seem to allow me to run a function within an object constructor. What is the proper syntax or arrangement of code for executing this function to get the array within the object?

Actionscript 3 :: Tween Dynamically Created Object Along With Other Object?

I'm trying to dynamically addChild a Sprite to an already tweened MovieClip (tweened on the Flash timeline).
Let's say ObjectA is the tweened object, I published it in my swc and linked it to my Actionscript project in Flash Builder. I make an instance of ObjectA in my class, and then try to do the following:

var objectA:ObjectA = new ObjectA();
var objectB:ObjectB = new ObjectB();
objectA.addChild(objectB);
addChild(objectA);

Now, the problem is, objectB doesn't tween along with objectA. Is there any logical solution to this?

Actionscript 3 :: Calling A Method From Mxml Component That Is Created From Class?

Jun 16, 2011

I've always just developed my projects in as3 instead of mxml and I usually just setup my application to run a main actionscript file as my main doc root, sort of like how you do it in flash but in flash builder I do something like this:[code] how can I call place a call to that function hitme() within the call_from_outside() function between the <fx:Script> tags?The reason why I'm doing this is because I have some flash swfs that I load into another swf file and I can access the top level public functions of those flash swfs, however the top level of the flash builder/flex swfs is the main mxml file not my fake as3 class root. Of course I should think there is a way for me to access the as3 class methods of the mxml component but for keeping things with the same structure, I can bypass having to modify my loader scripts.
