Turning of the whitespace around relationals formats the code into:
getDefinitionByName("Helloworld") as Class
into
getDefinitionByName("Helloworld")asClass
Has this been changed in FDT 4.0?
Is it possible to define the target of a MouseOver event being sent to a method if it is being triggered by code and not an actual mouse event? By typecasting a string as a mouse event the receiving function is sent an acceptable value required by it to run. It will then go about executing it's tasks but if it has references to the target property an error is thrown because only the event type was sent to the function and none of it's properties.
ActionScript Code:

Resulting error:
Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
Is there a way to send the target information along with the event when triggering a method in this way?

View 1 RepliesI have a advanceddatagrid that has around 15 columns. Some are string, some are numbers. I have shown 4 columns below. The number columns have formatting done for zero precision and 2 digits precision. The itemRenderer is just to show Blue Color if the number is +ve and Red Color if the number is -ve. It looks something like below

How can I save and reload the Formatter and ItemRenderer data. I am having trouble saving the formatter and itemrenderer and reloading it again. How can I reshuffle the columns but can preserve all the properties of it to through sharedobject and recover it again.
I found that there is a setting in the Component Inspector within Schema called Formatter. I am wondering if this is what I use, and if so how to format for time such as HH:MM:SS ? Or if I have to use something else?
View 1 RepliesI would like to take advantage of all the goodness of the newer Vector class for FP10, but it seems it is marked as final. I am doing some intensive mathematical processing in Actionscript, and repeatedly process arrays of Numbers. I have previously been using my own subclass of Array(I call it NumericArray), with added functions such as sum(), mean(), add(), multiply(), etc. This works very well and allows for some clean OO code. However, I am finding through profiling that about 95% of my processing time occurs in the functions of these objects. I need more performance out of these arrays.
I want to use a Vector, as it provides some performance enhancements. I want to specifically use a Vector.<Number>. Unfortunately, I cannot subclass Vector as it is marked final. What is the best and cleanest way to imitate what I was previously doing with a subclass of Array, to a Vector.<Number>?
I have thought about passing around Vector.<Number> variables instead of my custom class and just using utility functions to manipulate, but this is not good OO design and will be a pain to use, not to mention ugly.
I have been goggling a lot to find anything with link-based data visualization in Flex 4. something like below screen shoot (made using Ravis). Where user can drag these nodes, without removing the links and on double click of any node we can set some properties for that particular node. I found this Ravis (Birdeye), but not much of examples and support is available for that.

I have few ActionScript skills. But I have built a multimedia career by stealing chunks of AS2 code and reworking them to suit my purpose. I have searched long and hard here for a solution to my current problem. I have found code here that seems to address it, but I cannot make it work. I simply have some textAreas that I wish to validate. The user may input text that could include extra spaces, returns, and odd capitalization. It would be easiest for me to simply strip out the capitals, spaces and returns. I found some simple code that changed the caps to lowercase:[code]
View 5 RepliesI've managed to get myself stuck in a situation where a database full of images ( transparent images of various products ) needs to be placed on the stage, all of which need to be aligned the same by the products height. My problem is that the png's of products are 'floating' and I have no control of where about's in the png it will sit ( could be tight at the top and loads of room at the bottom, vice versa)
Does anyone know an existing way to find out the png's 'true' height ( width is an extra ). I've thought about looping through the bitmap data and checking but wondered if anyone has invented this wheel already?
Does anyone know of a way to crop out whitespace/transparent pixels in a BitmapData object? I've got this movieclip I'm rendering that has a huge amount of whitespace all around it. I'd like to crop all of that out before I convert it to a JPEG (with corelib). Is there a way to do this? I can't seem to find a way to figure out where the first opaque pixel starts on each axis to determine the extents.

However, sometimes it appears in the file as "Type /Pages" - with the extra space
As the files can be VERY long, I don't want to search twice - is there anyway to search with or without the space?

The contents of it is set via xml documents.Now because in the xml for the sake of keeping it clean I make sure when setting all text to any TextField I set it with condenseWhite set to true:[code]Now this condense white creates a few weird bugs when using htmlText... things like img tags acting really weird and the sort.But that isn't my concern right this second. When I try to load text from XML into a text field any leading line breaks or spaces are ignored. For example:

The preceding loads into the text field without the leading spaces before "some text". How can I force the spaces to appear?
Not sure if I phrased that correctly. I have about 6 pieces of illustrator outlined text.imported into flash, set as symbols with event listeners and works fine. but i notice I can only click on the outline itself, if i click on the inside of an "o" or "R" it doesnt work.I added white boxes behind each of the symbols and that fixed the problem, but now i want to do a color transform on the symbol (the text only of course), but when I apply the transform, its the background box and the text that have the new color applied, just leaving me a rectangle. I gave the box an alpha of 0, hoping if i didn't affect the alpha in the transform, the pointer would still read the box, but no go, it doesnt even see the box again.

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to code a click-and-point adventure game for a class, in which interactive objects glow when you mouse over them.... In the frame I have the background image (in which there is, say, a drawer), and an image of the drawer glowing placed exactly over top of that. The glow image is invisible until you mouse over it, at which point it is supposed to become visible (and disappear upon mouseout). I have the mouseover function linked to the entire glow image (which is a movieclip), but it only seems to work when you mouseover a specific portion of the image (usually a corner). The code looks something like this:

when the glow-image is moused over, it moves upward slightly and a small amount of whitespace appears at the top of the image.
It is simple to format text with setTextFormat. But is there any affective method for retrieving all the styling that has been made on the text? getTextFormat is known but it doesn't work on text that varies in formatting.

The formatting is applied in the xml file and the other formatting is in a css file.I have used code from a tutorial which loads both xml and the css file. The code works fine, if I load the entire xml in my text field.If I want to load data from one of the xml node which has Italic tag then it returns a null value.

View 3 RepliesI have some text fields which have to be displayed with a style I have previously loaded from a CSS document. There are two choices to choose from, but both have some hitch I cannot resolve by myself:
- If I decide to embed a font and use it along with the other CSS properties, I don't know how to associate this font to the text field, because if I do this: myTextField.embedFonts = true, no text is displayed.
- If I decide not to embed fonts, so that I use the CSS font-family property, I've checked that the text is not displayed the same way in different monitors: while in my PC it is displayed smooth and sharp, in another appears kind of jagged. Moreover the animations of non-embedded fonts are not the best option (the text must have an animation which includes a mix of fading and scale).
People have asked how to make a text editor with css formatting before and the answer has always been with reference to the manual - "it can't be done".But what if you didn't accept that something can't be done?I'm thinking some sort of translation class to convert between textformat and css.Or bin the css for the moment of editing and then reapply when the user has finished.
