I am using an embedded flash movie in my web page. I would like to show some alerts on the page when the movie has played for x seconds, pause the movie while the user views and dismisses the alert and start playing the movie again after that (or the user can press the play button, not important). The important parts being - the app being able to find out if x secs worth of movie has played, pausing the movie then and showing an alert. Is this possible using a php/javascript code within the web page? Or will I have to do this within the flash movie itself?

1. a button is clicked (calling the playSound function)2. the sound is then played, also a small instance of the button is called from the AS library and placed within a sprite that is within a movie clip at the bottom. The event listener is also removed from the main button so it can only be called once.3. when the small instance of the button is pressed (within the sprite) it stops the sound, removes the icon and re enables the buttons event listener.It all works fine, and it is worth mentioning i am still new to Flash but getting to understand it more (after a little bit of light hearted abuse from a few members ). What i am struggling to understand is how to 'streamline' my code. I plan on having 20 buttons on the screen, and surely theres an easier way then having 20 functions, all more or less doing the same thing!

I am new to adobe forums and flash platform. I am using flash cs3 / 8 for almost a year now (timeline with some basic actionscript - AS2). What I need for my projects is a playback skin for the produced swf's. I tried captivate, but when I import the skin actions don't work any more (i tried several tactics - synchronize ... ect). Is there any other way to add a player skin with start /stop buttons and active scrubber bar (slider bar). I can easily create custom start/ stop buttons that does the job but I can figure how to make a scrubber bar that will respond to my flash project user interaction (e-learning purposes).

I imported an FLV video and selected a Skin via the Video import wizard. The Under... skin did not display. The Over... skin shows just a sliver of it at the bottom of the published video. There is also a black border about .38" high at the top and bottom of the video. The sliver of the playback control is over the lower border. I've tried resizing the video in the Publish Video dialog, using No Borders and nothing helps. Using Flash CS4 on Win XP. I used the AMEncoder to convert the MPG to FLV.

I have a web page with an SWF file on it which in turn loads and plays an FLV file. The SWF is embedded in a layer (referred to here as the "video layer") which is hidden at load time. Elsewhere on the page is a "view video" button which makes the video layer appear. However, I can't seem to find any way to make that video start playing when the video layer appears. My thought was to use Javascript and an onClick to start the playback but I haven't had any luck. I also have a "CLOSE WINDOW" button on the video layer that will have to stop the video playback and close the layer. I have been able to successfully make the video layer appear and disappear, but I have not been able to make the video play or stop. I will also need to make the video rewind at some point as well. Please note that the video itself plays fine if I set the FLV to Autoplay before publishing the SWF but then it starts immediately upon completion of page loading.

I need to have a swf playback be stopped at launch, but pressing spacebar starts playback. Pressing space bar again before the end is reached will pause playback until it is pressed a second time.When the end is reached, I need to pause on the last frame. Only pressing the spacebar again will cause the the animation to goto the first frame (essentially resetting the animation).I am using the following actionscript, but it takes three spacebar presses to get the animation to replay once the end is reached.[code]

Is there a way to control the playback of an externally loaded .swf?
I'm using the MovieClipLoader class to bring an external .swf into my "main nav" .swf, and I would like to allow the user to pause and resume playback of the external .swf.
How might I accomplish this?
here's what I have so far:
Code:
this.createEmptyMovieClip("mcHolder", this.getNextHighestDepth());
var mclLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var oListener:Object = new Object();

I have AJAX running on an application that opens up a new panel displaying a flash video. The flash video uses one of the FLV Playback skins. When I play the video on the panel, everything is fine. But, when I close the panel with the javascript-enabled button, the video would still play even though the panel and video are "gone" from the html page.
I was looking into using javascript to talk to actionscript to control the FLV Playback skin's stop function so that when the close panel function is activated, the video play's stop function would be called. How do I find out the path to and the name of the stop function inside the playback skin? Is it possible to call the stop function inside the FLV Playback skin? Or, would it be easier to create my own video controller?

Can you tab into CS3 Playback components or control them with keyboard commands in a regular (non screenreader) browser like IE? If not, can you in CS4? I believe that all screen readers can control Flash playback now, correct? But I have a higher up who wants it to be keyboard controlled as well.

I've created a site in CS4/AS3 (my first site, so I'm still pretty new at Flash and especially AS3). The site contains a number of embedded movieclips. For each movieclip, the user needs to be able to control the playback. I've created a play/pause button that works but I cannot figure out how to use the seekbar component so that the user can move around within the movieclip. Is the seekbar component only for manipulating video files? If so, how might I go about creating a seekbar-type feature for movieclips?

I am working on a project and I want to know if it is possible for flash to control the playback speed of sound files (mpeg). I dont care if they are external or imported since the project will only run locally. IT is a game where I want to slow down and speed up the sounds playing.

I'm making a demo project for myself to learn. The project is somewhat similar to "The Story of Stuff" website.But I making this demo and going step by step. I have a small working project but the video clips are embedded and now I'm launching them externally using the flv playback component.I have only made the very first video clip external that is loaded in using the component. The rest of the clips are embedded.
As you can see I made this so when the picture icons appear and when you click on one the video pauses and when you click the close button on the small window that pops up the video resumes.(un-pause)
Basic time line controls. (Linear)
But of course this does not work when I load the clip externally using the flv playback component.My question is , how can I control (Play/Pause) the flv playback instance(s) with my existing icons?

I'm trying to work out how to take a mc with a jpg image sequence in it and then control the playback by using the left and right mouse movement. I've searched the web and various flash forums for quite sometime but cannot find any info on how this is achieved. Perhaps I'm searching for the wrong terms? An example of what I want to do can be found here (flash animation at top of page). Click and drag on the computer or 360 button to spin it around. I want to do this but with one of my own 3d models that I've rendered out as an image sequence(jpgs).

I am looking for a class that functions similar to JPEGEncoder from as3corlib, but instead of encoding a JPEG, I want to take a dynamic drawing the user has made (with animation) and output an SWF file that the user can download and playback on his/her computer.I understand how to create an SWF and store user variables that control the playback, but I want to make it all contained in a single SWF file.

Is it possible to control a Flash movie from JS when you have no control over the source? I have decompiled the movie to see its inner workings, but I know nothing about Flash, so I'm mostly in the dark. I found this resource, Interaction with JavaScript, but it's not working for me (probably because I don't know what message to send to the movie).

So when that button in the flash file is clicked, I want to perform an action in the parent flex application.

Developing a flash resource which runs FLV files from within it as pro
gressive. It works ok on my local testing computer/network server. But when I put it online it does not play.I opened up the components panel for each FLV and noticed they were absolutely linked to my network drive (obviously when online this linking will now work). So i changed all the linking to be relative and some warning windows did come up and say i was breaking the link but i ignored them because i don't care about how it runs locally...i want this resource to work online!line.something that it might also be is I am uploading this resource to an LMS called Janisons (perhaps they are not FLV through flash playback - friendly).
Is there any particular path of troubleshooting I could go along? Because I have just about tried everything i know!UPDATE: I changed back one of the FLVs parameters to link to local drive in the component parameters - and as expected, it runs fine locally but when previewd in chrome (which might i add has some great debugging features that you could only dream of finding in IE) i get the following message:

I've been wondering something, websites like youtube (pandora does mp4s) play their music through a flash player. while each track is played, they're downloaded to the user's computer, e.g., /tmp/FlashXX*** This allows users to go and move the flv out of that folder for later playback.
However, when the user moves the flv out of the /tmp folder, the player continues to play the music/video quite happily. How does the flash player handle the removal of its file and why doesn't it throw errors from this?
More importantly, why are the flvs downloaded to the user in the first place if the player plays happily without them?

I have a video embedded in Flash as an FLV. I'm able to get the video to play through the way I want, but when the video plays through and ends, I want to have two options/"buttons" display that allow the user to either replay the video a la youtube, or link to another web page.
I know it must a very basic question but I can't seem to find any answers. I've included a screen capture of the end of the video.

I will need to display the frames of an FLV at different rates.
Here are some examples:
the user will 'scrub' through the flv frames(front/back) the flv will need to play at half the speed on a user interaction.
Currently I'm using LoaderMax and it's VideoLoader object to load and play FLV files. I've tried using the playProgress property, but only the keyframes of the FLV are displayed. I got the same result with the basic setup(using the NetStream class)
As a workaround, I playback the FLV once, and cache BitmapData instances in which I draw/cache each frame of the video. After this is done, I use the BitmapData Vector to update a Bitmap on stage. Scrubbing/changing speed works fine with this method, but still the user needs to see(wait for) the sequence once, while it gets cached, which I don't like.

Is it possible to listen for when a streaming mp3 actually begins to play?
e.g.
var snd:Sound = new Sound();
snd.load(new URLRequest("my.mp3"));
snd.play();
When loading/streaming the mp3 file over wifi or 3G the playback might not begin immediately.
I need to trigger something when the audio actually starts.
