The business card templates will have been pre approved and uploaded into the "system". The employee will be able to choose the card template that he likes the most and edit information on the card template such as Full Name, Title, Office Number, Cell Number, Fax Number, and Email. After he inputs his own information onto this template he will have the option to save the file as a pdf file, that will be used to print his business cards.

View 5 RepliesI'm in the planning and learning stages of building a facebook game. For the past year my foremost question has been, "Flash or HTML5?". Rather than try to decide the answer to that, I thought I would give the markets for both some more time to mature and learn how to design the game and how to manage the server element.
Over the last year I've devoured thousands of pages of text concerning game development and business development, along with getting a solid footing in AS3, python, php, C# and javascript. So, I'm most interested in picking a system that is best for the job rather than, for example, starting off assuming the game logic will be in python because that's what I enjoy most.
The game is at its core a strategy game and I plan to use many mobile phones extensively in addition to the standard facebook "invite all your friends" features. The graphics won't be flashy and will in most places be rather flat because of the thematic elements, rather than 3d isometric like farmville or other flash facebook games.
So from a technological perspective HTML5 doesn't have any real advantage that I can see over flash, and neither does flash have any real advantage over HTML5. If you see that one has a clear advantage over the other then I would be happy to hear that in your comments.
I have five primary questions that I need your opinion on:
1) Which platform makes better sense for building a facebook game considering the future market trends?
2) Which platform has better inherent elements to help prevent cheating? (like flash being compiled into a .swf vs javascript being in plain text)
3) Which platform would be most attractive to the best game development talent for future hires?
4) Which platform is easiest to take technology from one game and use it for other future games? (like developing isometric graphics in flash)
5) Which platform is easiest to develop with a team?
My website will be basically selling services; will my SEO ranking still be affected if I embed the Flash site in a blank html page? I am at that critical point where I am ready to upload the site but I am just having second thoughts about the ease of doing business with Flash.
View 15 RepliesI have this flash player we use to create some graphs and charts of our business performance. We use flash because we like those neat-o graphics and overall User experience.
The thing is that now I need to generate snapshots (i.e. images) of those charts every Monday so I can save them to disk.
Our flash player takes arguments at startup (or runtime) that specify the data we want to load and the date range, and we have LOTS of charts around.
I would like to know if there is any way to create these images in a batch, window-less process in linux. My goal would be to have a script that runs at 2am, automatically loads all the graphs say for the latest week, and creating PNG images for each. All this in one of our window-less (but with X11 libraries) linux boxes.
I'm interested in having people be able to customize hockey shirts. I saw these two sites listed above. I'm wondering how and if anyone knows how to go about something like this. If there is some sort of template that I could use as a basis for something interactive such as this.

View 1 RepliesI'm not creating a application to create a business card. I'm creating a static design which I'll probably export as an image and take to a printer. I just feel most comfortable using Flash for this at this point.The design looks good in Flash CS5 but when I export it, it's too small.I measured a physical card as 87mm x 49mm so I made the stage that size, using millimeters.
I exported the design as a PNG, printed it, and it comes out as 66mm x 37mm - the correct proportions but it's about 75% of the size I want! I tried publishing the design and opened the HTML in a browser but it still comes out looking small.
I am wondering how will I proceed with the following requirement. I need to create a line chart of business data of the last 8 quarters. It is easy, but the requirement is that, there should not be a connection between last year's Q4 and this years Q1. In effect, using the same array collection i need to split the line chart so that it looks like two different lines on the same chart. How to proceed with it.

I would have never been able to do it with out this file.I have run into three setbacks -What Code would I adjust to REMOVE the resizing logic. All of my images are the same size - so there is no need for this code but I cant figure out how to remove it? How would I add a scroll bar to the galleries that have more images than the stage can fit? Is there a way to add another text field that would have the ability to be a link? View 1 RepliesAn observation about the configuration files (XML) of FMS. When we roll out new versions or upgrades, it almost always involves updating or modifying the files in the conf/ directory. If it's within a certain revision, we generally copy them over from the previous install and it's fine. In the case of FMS 3.5, new configuration directives were added which necessitated our doing a fresh reconfigure to ensure everything was accounted for.
What I believe would make for an easier configuration process is to utilize the inheretance aspect of XML, allowing for a LocalSettings.xml file which would be read in by FMS last, overriding any default settings thus eliminating the need to alter the default *.xml files. Any new settings introduced that require changes can be imported as needed.
Overwriting the stock conf/*.xml files with new information would not interfere with your custom settings as they would remain intact in LocalSettings.xml. Any conflicts could be reported to the logs or stdout. One exception being fms.ini -- which could easily be revamped into XML and used in the above model.
I'm looking for a button component that allows me to customize the text field.The Flash button component allows me to edit/reskin everything except the text field. However, I can change the buttons textField via AS, but only during run time, I want a button component that allows me to change the text field so I can see the button on the stage with out having to compile a swf.

I'm currently learning ActionScript 3 and am having some problems getting some classes & functions that I have created to work when I put them into reusable .as packages. While I understand the basics of AS3 & OO programming I'm getting a little miffed as to why my code is not working.
I've created several AS functions such as a preloader function, reusable button function, customized context menu function etc. which all work perfectly if I place the AS code on the main timeline of the movie, like so:

I don't get any error messages, but the customized context menu (with default items removed) is not appearing when I compile the movie.
My initial thought was that the script might not be running through, so I put a trace in, if I uncomment that line of code I get "testing" on the screen so the fuction is running through.I have a feeling, and I could easilly be wrong, that its because my "this.contextMenu = myMenu;" action is not attached to the main timeline so cannot display the customized context menu. If I'm right, how would I go about getting the action to attach to the main timeline.
When you have a flex project, is it better to use different skins for different components or to use just one big css that has all the styles together?
