View 5 RepliesI am trying to do is create an "app" with flash that will allow an employee of the company to create there business card on the fly. The business card templates will have been pre approved and uploaded into the "system". The employee will be able to choose the card template that he likes the most and edit information on the card template such as Full Name, Title, Office Number, Cell Number, Fax Number, and Email. After he inputs his own information onto this template he will have the option to save the file as a pdf file, that will be used to print his business cards.
View 1 RepliesI have this flash player we use to create some graphs and charts of our business performance. We use flash because we like those neat-o graphics and overall User experience.
The thing is that now I need to generate snapshots (i.e. images) of those charts every Monday so I can save them to disk.
Our flash player takes arguments at startup (or runtime) that specify the data we want to load and the date range, and we have LOTS of charts around.
I would like to know if there is any way to create these images in a batch, window-less process in linux. My goal would be to have a script that runs at 2am, automatically loads all the graphs say for the latest week, and creating PNG images for each. All this in one of our window-less (but with X11 libraries) linux boxes.
I am creating a card game everything is fine but I am not able to create a stack of cards as follows: If I have 4 cards that are represented in an array such as 4,5,6,7 of Spades then I want the card with the least priority to be placed on top and the highest priority card placed behind the first one.

View 1 RepliesI'm working on a project at the moment where the client uses an off-the-shelf Flash library to display data against a map. It's a SWF that we feed some XML data and it renders it in various ways, such as a map of the UK with each county represented with a different colour depending on the data we feed it.
As it's an off the shelf, we only have the SWF, no means to edit the Flash file.
We need to make the reports universally printable from the browser. The idea was to have a container SWF that used the BitmapData methods on it to effectively do a screengrab of what the map ("child") SWF is showing and render it in the page as the image generated for printing(i.e only showing the image in the print stylesheet).

View 11 RepliesI'm in the planning and learning stages of building a facebook game. For the past year my foremost question has been, "Flash or HTML5?". Rather than try to decide the answer to that, I thought I would give the markets for both some more time to mature and learn how to design the game and how to manage the server element.
Over the last year I've devoured thousands of pages of text concerning game development and business development, along with getting a solid footing in AS3, python, php, C# and javascript. So, I'm most interested in picking a system that is best for the job rather than, for example, starting off assuming the game logic will be in python because that's what I enjoy most.
The game is at its core a strategy game and I plan to use many mobile phones extensively in addition to the standard facebook "invite all your friends" features. The graphics won't be flashy and will in most places be rather flat because of the thematic elements, rather than 3d isometric like farmville or other flash facebook games.
So from a technological perspective HTML5 doesn't have any real advantage that I can see over flash, and neither does flash have any real advantage over HTML5. If you see that one has a clear advantage over the other then I would be happy to hear that in your comments.
I have five primary questions that I need your opinion on:
1) Which platform makes better sense for building a facebook game considering the future market trends?
2) Which platform has better inherent elements to help prevent cheating? (like flash being compiled into a .swf vs javascript being in plain text)
3) Which platform would be most attractive to the best game development talent for future hires?
4) Which platform is easiest to take technology from one game and use it for other future games? (like developing isometric graphics in flash)
5) Which platform is easiest to develop with a team?
My website will be basically selling services; will my SEO ranking still be affected if I embed the Flash site in a blank html page? I am at that critical point where I am ready to upload the site but I am just having second thoughts about the ease of doing business with Flash.

I am building a new website, which you can see at [URL] The first bit I want to add is an area where business owners can list their business' information, such as the address or contact information. They should also be able to login later to change the information. I assume this will need some sort of database, but don't know where to begin looking.
Second, I wish to add a map that highlights the locations of these businesses.

View 1 RepliesI'm not creating a application to create a business card. I'm creating a static design which I'll probably export as an image and take to a printer. I just feel most comfortable using Flash for this at this point.The design looks good in Flash CS5 but when I export it, it's too small.I measured a physical card as 87mm x 49mm so I made the stage that size, using millimeters.
I exported the design as a PNG, printed it, and it comes out as 66mm x 37mm - the correct proportions but it's about 75% of the size I want! I tried publishing the design and opened the HTML in a browser but it still comes out looking small.
I am wondering how will I proceed with the following requirement. I need to create a line chart of business data of the last 8 quarters. It is easy, but the requirement is that, there should not be a connection between last year's Q4 and this years Q1. In effect, using the same array collection i need to split the line chart so that it looks like two different lines on the same chart. How to proceed with it.

What it is I am trying to achieve is 6 cards each with their own numeric value. (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32) when the card is clicked its values get added together and but remain invisible until the reveal button is pressed.

I am toying around with the idea of making a few card games, and was testing some code trying to get an Ace of Spades to snap to a slot.But for some reason the card isnt snapping... with the traces I ran.. it looks like it is snapping to the center. But I changed the center point with the free transform tool... so the point is in the upper right but its still not snapping.You can see by the traces I use, that the home1X = 36 means it is finding the corner

My cards flip and drag around properly, but I can't seem to get graphics on them. I have the graphics linked for use in action script. I'm working on a card game that will allow users to flip the cards and drag them. I have those two functions worked out, but now I am trying to randomize the order of the deck when I load the swf using an array. I know a lot has been said about this issue on here, and I adapted some code that I found. I'm not getting error messages, but it doesn't seem to be shuffling my deck either. Am I missing something? I just have three cards at the moment (figured I'd keep it simple until I get everything worked out!). Below is the code for MemoryGame.as, my document class. The shuffle function is near the bottom.

View 5 RepliesI was looking for a way to shuffle a deck of cards last week and I was provided with some code to do so. I decided a straight shuffle would work better with my project than randomizing coordinates (as I was doing). I'm trying to implement the code, and I think I'm pretty close, but I'm running into a few snags. I'm using Shuffle.as as my document class, and another external class called Card.as to control the flipping and drag action of my cards. At the moment, I'm getting this message when I try to run the swf: 1084: Syntax error: expecting leftbrace before Deck. I think this is indicative of an error somewhere else in my code, but I'm not sure where. Do you see anything upon first glance?

I am using flash cs5.5 right now and I have in my library two movie clips. One contains the main class and the other is created to do a function, which is to flip the cards the main class creates. I have designed the cards inside the "Card10" movie clip (which contains the class that flips the cards). But when I test the game, my cards don't flip.

View 2 RepliesI am programming a card sort application in which I am dragging and dropping the cards on the boxes. While dropping these cards it should arrange them in a stack format. e.g. if card1 is dragged and dropped on box1 it will appear behind it, card2 behind card1 and so on. And if I want drag these dropped cards to another box these cards should be rearranged accordingly without showing any in between empty slots. Now the problem is when I drag these cards from the box I set relative depths to them. But the after doing this the cards get disabled.
