I know nothing about flash. I only need to change a few variables in a swf file. the swf file uses ../ for root directory, so, when I play this swf from other places than its designed directory, it will querry wrong URL.Edit: the swf are in this directory:root/domain/content/swfthe swf file has some ../url to querry files under the content directoryroot/domain/content/stuffs/items/filesIf I play the swf in another directory, for example, root/domain/topics/stories/jokes/then, the swf will querry root/domain/topics/stories/jokes/files, this is wrong. How do I reference the root frame label in a function for event dispatching using a switch statement.
SUMMARY: This is simple, but as I've stepped away from ActionScript for too long, I'm having trouble figuring out the proper test expression to reference the root timeline frame label (e.g., switch(the root frame label)).
Nothing i've tried works:

STRUCTURE: I have five MCs, one on each of five frames. I have a forward button and a back button. I created a switch statement to specify different actions, based on the root frame label. Frame labels are f1, f2, f3, f4, fend.

I am trying to understand some basics of Regular Expressions.For just a experiment I wanted to count the total words in a string.var str:String = "hello, this is some text to count the word hello and to check if Hello is ignored by case and if hellow is different";[code]Here i get the array of the values. and using it's length I can use the total number. Situation:
- We have a Flash application located on a SAP EP (let's say ep.x.com)
- We have a SAP ABAP Application (Webservices) on a SAP WebAS
server (abap.x.com)
- Clarification: This is not about Flash islands / but a normal Flash application communicating with WebAS ABAP via WebServices
Problem: Due to the changed security policy in Flash 10 this scenario does no longer work.
- A crossdomain policy file on root level cannot be deployed on root level
- The WebServices http/s headers cannot be modified, since the WebServices are generated by the WebAS IDE.
Comment: Technically there is a way to patch a WebAS ABAP,but this is not a practical / acceptable way in a normal SAP WebAS infrastructure.
Conclusion:- The above scenario (Flash from EP content / WebAS ABAP as backend) is a quite normal scenario in the SAP world.
- SAP / Adobe always features the close relationship between their technologies.
Question:- What could we do?
- How does the Visual Composer works around that problem?

I brought a pre-built shopping cart and I'm trying to put some buttons in another MC but when I click them the cart don't update.
The original setup of the cart was:
The 'Add to cart' buttons are on the root and the cart was inside an MC also on the root.

This is an example of the kind of issue I'm trying to solve. Say I'm looking to set 10 text fields (text_field_1 to text_field_10) within my movie clip 'myMovieClip' to the value of i. Now if the for loop and the text fields are in the place (_root) all I would have to do is:

I'm trying to access Flashvars that I declare in my HTML from a SWF that gets loaded after an intro animation.
I am able to access one of my Flashvars in the opening SWF just fine, but when the next SWF loads, I'm unable to access my Flashvars.

I want to find out the value of an index of an Array defined on the main timeline, from within a MC on the stage. In AS2.0 this would be as simple as trace(_root.mk_contArray[0]). In AS3.0, naturally something like trace(root.mk_contArray[0]) just doesn't work, nor any other variation I've tried. Is it something to do with addChild()? This instance is named, but I haven't used that method.

I'm guessing this is pretty simple, I just can't find the solution through my google searches.
Bascially I created a variable and gave it a value in the first frame of my main timeline.
Now I just want to pass that variable into a MovieClip. When I trace the value of the variable within the movieClip I get undefined.
Is there something else I have to do to make it recognize the root timeline's variable?

I got a variable "VideoFolder" well defined in my root level. However when I used this variable directly in child layers, my script does not recognize it and I get error 1120: Access of undefined property VideoFolder. I tried changing VideoFolder with _root.VideoFolder in all my child layers scripts, but it changes nothing.

I have a movie embedded and I am passing a variable to the root movie for it to play when the embedded movie is complete. I know the variable is getting passed because I am displaying the value in as dynamic text but the parent movie will not play. This is what I have:
stop();
row = 0;
if (row == 1) {
this.gotoAndPlay(2);
}
Row is being passed from the embedded movie as
_root.row = 1;
I know there is a way to tell the parent movie to play from the embedded movie by using TellTarget but I would like to find out why this doesn't work.

I have a movie clip on my main timeline that I want to send to a certain frame based on a variable that can be set from a nested movie clip, and also set from an external swf that will be loaded into the main timeline.So how would I set that variable? In AS2, I would just go _parent._parent...as many levels up as I needed to, but the AS3 equivalent only seems to work one level up.

How do you tell the root timeline to root.gotoAndStop(2); from the timeline of a movieClip added using addChild?In the maintime line I have

and in fade_eng I have the following on frame 20

But I am getting 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method gotoAndStop through a reference with static type flash.display:Stage.

I have the need to change a variable in a child Flash file.
The setup is a parent Flash file, that has called a child Flash, and placed it in a movieClip.
I can send a variable using Javascript to the parent Flash file, but not directly to the child Flash file. Is there a way that I can access the child Flash file directly with Javascript?
Or do I need to send the variable to the parent Flash file, and then have the parent send the variable to the child Flash file? Is there a sort of dot notation that I can use with Javascript to get to the child Flash file without first accessing the parent, when the child is added to the parent using the loadClip function in flash?

I have a problem with SharedObject. I created SharedObject using AS2.0 it's working fine.... my question is can it possible to store the variable values in an .txt file where the flash file is saved... basically the SharedObject will store the vallues in localdrive with file extention. not only using SharedObject if any other way to store the vaules in .txt file will be helpfull for me... my requirement is to store the the position of the swf file and when the time it reopen, it should start from previous position.
