Flash :: Javascript - Center Element Based On The Elements Actual Size
Mar 1, 2010
I have a problem positioning a Flash element inside a div tag. The problem is, that the flash element is changing it's size based on the user input. I need a way how I can dynamically get the actual size of the flash element, and to change the behavior of the div element the flash is integrated in. actually I want to place it in the middle of the div. right now I gave the flash element width and height of 100% but that way I can not center the element inside the div...

Is there anyway to take take a "screenshot", "save" or "capture" the active SWF element on a page as an image? I'd like for users to be able to simply click a button on my page, instead of having to need to manually take a screenshot of the entire page and then crop the image to show only the SWF element.I found a Jquery method, although I am unsure if it could work with SWF files. It basically captures an area of an Image element on the page and allows you to save that as a separate image. What I would need however, is to capture the SWF as the image instead. Note: I do not have access to the SWF code so I cannot achieve this using Actionscript or anything like that

I have a Flash file embedded into HTML - the objects inside are place based on the browser's screen size.Most of the time I don't want a scroll bar, as things are correctly placed, but once the browser window gets too small it'd be nice to have it.So, the main question: can I have a Javascript code listening for the browser window, then adding a scroll bar if it's smaller than a certain number?

I'm trying to implement a dragging system which can only be described as similar to dragging the map on Google Maps. I can set up dragging easily in Flex, but unfortunately the standard model of dragging i.e. dragging an element proxy and dropping it in another element is not what I'm after.
Is there anything built into flex where the actual element rather than a proxy can be repositioned in a different place within the same parent? Or will I have to hand code something using mouse events as you would if implementing a solution in JavaScript?

My flash movie is 1440x900 but the area where all the important stuff happens in within 1024x768, i am trying to keep the middle in the center regardless of browers size or aspect ratio.
I can center the page but it doesn't work as i need it to. If the browers is small (1024x768) the swf is justified against the left edge, but not keeping the middle in the middle of the brower.
[URL] is an example of exactly what i am trying to achieve.

I have converted my MPEG video recorded from my camcorder to FLV to use on "Flash CS4" using "Adobe Media Converter". But the FLV playback on the "Flash player 10" is alot smaller than the playback of the MPEG video on "VLC". Is there anyway to adjust any properties to get the FLV to the actual size of the MPEG video?

I'd like to get the actual height of a component after adding some children.
When inspecting the variables tab in debug mode, I see 2 different height variables:$height (which contains the correct value: 138) and height/_height (which contains a wrong value: 10).
I guess that the display is not updated and so I'm not getting the correct height using component.height, but how can I get the value in $height?

I am busy building a site that uses Flash, jQuery and standard JavaScript.It seems that the communication between these platforms often takes some time to complete. I can see that some users will think that nothing is happening and click the Flash buttons over and over. This will cause even more of a wait since more Flash to JavaScript communication is triggered.My solution: What I would like to do is make my Flash content un-clickable until my JavaScript and jQuery are done running. I don't want to do this by sending JS commands to the Flash since I do not want to increase the communication between the two. What I have done is use JS to set the CSS "curser" property to the "wait" when you move it anywhere on the page, and to "not-allowed" when you move your mouse over the Flash content, at least until one jQuery animation is done running.
The problem with my solution: It seems that when I move my mouse over the Flash element focus shifts off of the html and on to the embedded Flash object. This means that the "not -allowed" curser pops up for just a second and then disappears. What I ned to figure out: I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how to prevent the embedded swf object from accepting focus? In other words I would like the Flash buttons to be deactivated when you click one of them or one of several html elements that trigger jQuery animations. I don't want to use a JS command to call a Flash function that does this, since I don't want to add to the communication time, which is in reality my original concern.

Using the following code:[code]Triggering play() and stop() works as expected, however the href doesn't do much, as the click event is sent to the flashplayer, and not following the hyperlink.I have several such flashplayers on the page, and I'm trying to find a way to 'activate' the href onClick and honor the url specified in the <a href=""> construct. Specifically, it's in IE8 I'm struggling.How can I do this using html/javascript?After having come across javascript onclick event over flash object I managed to get closer to what I'm after. Using the onmousedown event, I can trigger javascript when clicking my overlay div. What's a good generic way to read the parent href url and issue location.href='/myparenturl';" style="cursor: pointer; ?

I have an html page with a flash movie embded in it, that flash movie contains a button. I want to pass the id of an element on the containing html page to the flash movie so that when the button is clicked, I get the text of that element in flash (i.e. innerHTML).
So, my question is basically two questions:
How to pass something from HTML/Javascript to flash? How to access an element on the containing html page from flash? (What ActionScript code is needed to do that?)

I am trying to create a fullscreen chat program using Flash AS3, and so far, everything is going well, except for when the window is resized, the whole thing is proportionally resized.I would like it to ONLY resize the chat text area, when the resize is done vertically, keeping the controls the same height consistently, also I would like the buttons for sending the chat to maintain their size, with the input box increasing in width when the size is increased horizontally.Obviously the SWF resizing will be done by JavaScript/jQuery .onResize() and thus I will be able to set a mimimum width and height for the swf, maintaining usability.

I've been able to accomplish this in other languages, but am having trouble in AS3.I have an XML file structured like:
<person>
<q0>answer1</q0>
<q1>answer2></q1>
</person>
And so on for multiple people who are all asked the same 13 questions (q0 - q12).I am trying to push these into an array in action script like so:
function push_array(e:Event):void
{
flashmo_xml = XML(e.target.data);[code].....
(NOTE: the array questions[] contains strings of all the questions and the xml file contains the answers in case that wasn't clear) However this is not working. I know there must be a way to do this rather than getting all the questions individually without a for() loop.

Is there a way to query an embedded flash element to determine the available methods that can be executed on it via JavaScript?
Edit:
It appears that in IE it's as simple as
for ( i in flashNode ) {
alert(i);
}
After much clicking, they will be some of the very last members enumerated.
Still not able to determine this in Firefox though.

I have Flash 8. I created a Flash movie a number of years ago, probably in an early version of Flash. I use it on my website. I want to redesign my site and make the movie smaller from the standpoint of making the canvas/stage size smaller. I don't mean just compressing the flash movie to a smaller swf. Is there some quick way to do this without having to recreate the movie and put in smaller elements?

[URL]when you resize the browser window you'll notice that the background pattern remains the same size but there's never a browser-scrollbar, besides that the movie in the center that is loaded stays centered when resizing while keeping it's window-dimension constant (it's actually 2 seperate movies forming the center window).

Is there a way to set focus to the embed HTML element using JavaScript? Test case: embedded YouTube videos on a page.
I have no control over the embedded Flash element. So, is there a way to set focus on it by using only JavaScript?
I read somewhere that calling the element.focus() method works only in IE. I need a browser-independent way that works in Chrome/Firefox.

We have some older Flash and Flex files that someone before me lost the original files on. Now they want to add event tracking when some links inside the SWFs are clicked that use the old navigateToURL type ActionScript. Does anyone know if you can intercept that action with JavaScript so I can add the tracking they want before it redirects the page?
