I need to implement a webcam for a web chat system. Im trying to avoid that the video data goes through the webserver... it should go directly from client to client (as if they were using with skype).

I am building an enterprise application which involves many to many video chat. Most of the chats at any given time will be idle but they still need to trasmit some frames to keep the video chat alive and let other person know that someone is available. Will I be able to achieve this without any media server such as FMS and wowza? I heard about data packet loss during RTMFP. Is that true? What would be my limitations?
View 1 RepliesThe problem is a weird problem, because I can connect to the application through an RTMP test site, Adobe Flash Server reconginzes the connection and allows it. But when I try to connect from the flash applet (It's called Videowhisper), the connection doesn't go through. I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem is? I host Joomla (open source networking site) on a WAMP server, and Adobe Flash Server on the same machine. Adobe Flash Server is acception connections, just not from Joomla, for some reason.

I've decided the best approach would be to detect the average colour of the webcam image, and through this it can be converted to grayscale and if its closer to black the background will be dark or if its white it'll be brighter.

I'm trying to embed some flash code, and I'm using swfobject. When I put it in the parent div, it asks the users for permission on the webcam/audio. However, when I put the flash code into a lower-level div, it doesn't prompt for permission to use the webcam, or anyting. I.E.I can put the flash into container, but not inside.
View 1 RepliesI have a very stupid question: can android (I use samsung galaxy S2 mobile) can access teh webcam ?In my flash application, I got a flash security alert that allows to autorize or deny the access to webcam.
When I run this flash, it never shows this security alert and then It does not access the webcam. I do tests for instance with the website [URL]: works fine on my PC, works fine on my galaxy s2, but since it never shows me the autorization dialog, I cannot stream my webcam.
Any thoughts on a good way to accomplish something along the lines of

It seems as if System.setClipboard() isn't available inside an event handler (which makes at least some sense given what I know about Flash security).get it to work? or block on the URL load so that I can then call setClipboard() in the main event flow?

I'm building a chat app and there are between 100 and 900 users inside. I'm checking if a user is connected to the FMS by pinging it and if the stats['ping_rtt'] is higher that 3 secs i disconnect the user. The problem is that some user are connected but have very high ping like 30 secs or even higher.Does anyone have an idea what can be the reason for the high ping?

View 3 Repliesi want to create a chat app using flex 4.5 mobile project for android device. For the chat screen, i wanted it to look glossy and stylish. Hence i thought i would use the list component and disable the selection in it. I m able to add the chat messages into the list. But i doubt if large chat data might hinder the performance. Im using a collection and i ve binded it with the list. Whenever i receive a chat i update the collection and it gets displayed in the list. Can someone tell me if his could pose a performance problem as list component is not intended for this purpose.

I am creating a site, and I have this navigation system inside the portfolio page. But it is not working. So it is like this it is built. Default.fla is loading portfolio.fla inside a movie clip loader. and the portfolio.fla has a navigation system for different portfolio pieces. I have set up the first one to work (dasa design). so, I need the outro to play of hm1.fla (first file loaded) and then play the intro of the Dasadesign file. View 4 RepliesI got a textfile who i am reading on a serverside script and passing it as a script to my client side as3 code. The problem is that i am using characters like ä,ö,ü,ß and this isn't well displayed. I tried System.useCodePage but the compiler complains about : 1120: Access of undefined property 'System'. It doesnt matter if I tried this on the first line of the 'Action' in the first scene or in the first line of the first .as file i am loading. (btw i am only working with .as file and not in the timeline). When i am importing flash.System.* the compiler complains he dont know useCodePage.

View 1 RepliesI am using Adobe Citrus and Air. The goal is to make a voice chat application with low latency. I take the sound samples that I get from the Microphone SAMPLE_DATA_EVENT encode them in using Native Process and speexenc.exe.
The question with method should I use for the sending of the samples. I tried object repication and the latency is to big.
I have developed a chat site and would like to add a sound notification (beep or something) when there is a new message kind of like facebook chat.
I know this requires flash but have no idea on how this could be accomplished. Can anybody explain how to make this or a good resource that explains it?
