Flex :: Coldfusion Returning Typed Objects / AMF Remoting
May 26, 2010
Is the same possible in ColdFusion? Currently I am using .Net/Fluorine to return objects to the client. Whilst in testing I like to pass strings representing the select statement and the custom object I wish to have returned from my service. Fluorine has a class ASObject to which you can set the var 'typeName'; which works great.
I am hoping that this is possible in Coldfusion. Does anyone know whether you can set the type of the returned object in a similar way. This is especially helpful with large collections as the flash player will convert them to a local object of the same name thus saving interating over the collection to convert the objects to a particular custom object.

I've built a application that communicates with Coldfusion cfc functions via Remoting. I've noticed that the NetConnection object disconnects after each call, is this expected behaviour? For some reason I was expecting the NetConnection object to stay connected until I closed it myself (I'm making about 1 request per second and had planned for it to stay open).

I'm using Zend AMF to send my remote objects to Flex. I've defined a Constant class and created getASClassName() method. Then I've created Action script class in flex.
Objects are send successfully, but they are deserialized to generic Objects in Flex instead of specific ones. EDIT: On network monitor in Flex I can see that AMF value is set to com.my.project.valueobjects.Constant. Although array from event.result contains Objects.

I am very new to remoting in flex. I am using flex 4.5 and talking to a web application built by someone else on the team using AMF. They have used Zend_AMF to serialize and unserialize the data.One of the main issues I am facing at the moment is that I will need to talk to a lot of services (about 60 or so).From examples on remoting I have seen online and from adobe, it seems that I need to define a remoting object for EACH service:
<mx:RemoteObject id="testservice" fault="testservice_faultHandler(event)" showBusyCursor="true" destination="account"/>
With so many services, I think I might have to define about 60 of those, which I don't think is very elegant.At the same time, I have been playing with Pinta to test out the AMF endpoint. Pinta seems to be able to allow one to define an arbitary amount of services, methods and parameters without any of these limitations. Digging through the source, I find that they have actually drilled down deep into the remoting and are handling a lot of low level stuff.

For example in Java you can do:List<Person> where Person is the object type.In AS3/FlexArrayCollection which takes any object type. Is there any way to create a list/collection of declared objects in AS3/Flex (or is it impossible due to weakly typed language)?

I succeeded in sending typed objects from a PHP application to a flex front-end using Zend_AMF as per this question. The problem I am facing now is that I would like to send a typed object from flex to PHP and on the PHP side, be able to receive it as a typed object instead of stdClass.
Here is the class in flex:
package com.mysite{
[Bindable]
[RemoteClass(alias="CTest")]
public class CTest {
public var stuff1:String;
[Code] .....
After some testing, I removed the namespace from the PHP object and moved it into the global namespace. This seems to have resolved the issue. I have tried setting RemoteClass to modules estingCTest and also modules.testing.CTest. $_eplicitType was then set to the same value for both tests. The result is that when I use modules.testing.CTest, this is the classname that Zend_AMF sees. If I use namespace notation, Zend_AMF sees modulestestingCTest, as all the slashes get stripped out. But how can I get this working with php namespaces?

So is
public var user:Object = {};
user["firstName"] = "Bill";
user["lastName"] = "Cosby";
Slower than if I have a value object like User?
var user:User = new User();
user.firstName = "Bill";
user.lastName = "Cosby";

Is it possible to receive custom generic typed objects through AMF? I'm trying to integrate a flex app with an existing C# service but flex is choking on custom generic typed objects. As far as I can tell Flex doesn't even support generics, but I'd like to be able to even just read in the object and cast its members as necessary. I basically just want flex to ignore the <T>. I'm hopeful that there's a way to do this, since flex doesn't complain about typed collections (a server call returning List works fine and flex converts it to an ArrayCollection just like an un-typed List).
The custom C# typed class
public class TypeTest<T> {
public T value {
get; set; }
public TypeTest () {
}}
The server method returning the typeTest
public TypeTest<String> doTypeTest() {
TypeTest<String> theTester = new TypeTest<String>("grrrr");
return theTester;
[Code] .....
Irritatingly if I change the result handler to take parameter of type Object it works fine. How to make this work with the value object?

I'm using Pyamf as my backend for my Flex app and I'm seeing some weird problems with the mapping of the stongly typed classes.[code]When I do that in Flex, I get my SouvenirAct objects are typed as they should be, BUT then the child souvenir objects are all null. So when I force the casting of the SouvenirAct objects in the return result, I get null for the child properties that are strongly typed.Has anyone see this before? Is there a different way I should be mapping classes?

I have a function that returns an object full of data pulled when an XML file gets parsed. But I also need to use an array object with additional data. That array also gets built in the same function. Is there a way to return both? I am trying to get both the "Obj" and "SlideTime[idx]" data to use as globals.[code]

I have an object array into which I've pushed a number of objects with different variables :- myArray.push({myRef: 1, myValue: "W"}); I can sort the array in numerical order using :-myArray.sortOn("myRef", Array.NUMERIC);but after sorting I would like to collapse the array using something along the lines of :-myArray.join("");to join the OTHER variable (myValue)...Is it possible to do this without pushing every instance of 'myValue' to another array and then joining that?

We recently built a new dev server for flex builder and installed coldfusion 8. We currently have everything working on our old server using coldfusion 7. We copied the services-config.xml and our project over to the new server. It compiled fine, I updated all references to the new server. When I try to run the flex application I receive the following error:
Warning: Failed to load policy file from http://localhost/crossdomain.xml
* Security Sandbox Violation *
Connection to http://localhost/flex2gateway/ halted - not permitted from file://ourServer/folder/ourProject/bin-debug/ourProject.swf
We created a valid crossdomain.xml file on the localhost (which I wouldnt think would be necessary since everything is on the same server)

So basically what I'm trying to do is make something like this:[URL]... I've searched long and hard to find a site that would show me some pseudocode (at least) or an algorithm as to how to implement this type of application. But everything I find are only applications that take in data and do all the work for me to create the graph. I need to actually create it for myself, just a simple one for now. Does anyone know where I can find this? What I want it to do is take data from a database and use it to create the treemap, then express it in a GUI like in the link above. If any specifics are needed I can provide it. I'm trying to do this in Flash Builder using Flex and using ColdFusion as the backend.

Is it possible (and if so recommended) to use Flex remoting (mx.rpc)classes in an actionscript only project?
I'm creating an application with login and registration to a php back end using AMFphp.
As an option I was wondering if it made sense to take advantage of the mx.rpc flex classes.

I'm using CF to retrieve values from a database that are then being stored in a datagrid in Flex. I then want to selectively take the value from one cell of the datagrid and store it as a string variable. I've searched around, but I haven't been able to come about a solution. The users will not be interacting at all with the datagrid as it will be hidden to them.

I'm calling ColdFusion cfc method using RemoteObject method of the Flex.
[Code].....
So you can see that I changed the sequence of the parameter, when I call the cfc method. But it does not worked. It means that <s:arguments> does not pass the named parameter. Is there any solution for that? As you can see that I may have some of the arguments not mandatory so, it must be passed by name.

I have a Flex/CF app that sits on 2 redundant servers behind a load balancer. Both the Flex and CF side make calls to the same CFC. The Flex, CF and CFC are all in the same folder. When the CF code calls the CFC, there's not a problem. However, when the Flex code calls the CFC, it adds an explicit port "84" to the URL.This causes a problem for the load balancer which only accepts traffic from port 80. As I understand it, the load balancer would internally route requests from port 80 to 1 of the 2 servers on port 84 (but that internal routing should be invisible to the client).

Inside a flex app, I have a user login. The login calls a ColdFusion function as a remote object which authenticates the user and, if applicable, returns their id and access level. This works fine, but now I'm at the point where I want to also create a cookie for another ColdFusion template (called from fileReference.upload()) to be able to access later. I have tried several different methods for creating the cookie -- cfcookie, creating a cookie with JavaScript inside the ColdFusion function, and creating the cookie with JavaScript with an external interface once the coldfusion function returns to the flex result handler. All of these have been tried with a plethora of options regarding expiration, path, and domain tags.

I have a scheduling application that allows users to save any changes. When the user clicks the save button, Flex sends all the information to a coldfusion script which picks the information apart and sends saves it to the database. That all works well and good, but I would like to be able to display some sort of text to the user saying something like "Your file was successfully saved" or "There has been an error.

Is it easy to implement Flex Ajax Bridge with ColdFusion? Where can I learn how to use it? My frontend is pure HTML+JS and I just need the push capability. I thought of using Websocket Event Gateway and Server Sent Event (aka EventSource) but seems like they don't have much browser support quite yet. Any pure jQuery short/long polling option Any good Server Sent Event polyfill solution available for older browsers?

I have an Application consisting of a Java Server part and a Flash/Flex client, both communicate via BlazeDS. In order to have the same typed Objects on both sites, I use the GAS3 code generator (used by flex-mojos).But now I am facing the problem of handling nullable Integers. The problem is that I have an Object (A) which contains a foreign key ID which is reference an optional Object B. - But I only send the ID to the flex client.On the Java site it is easy:
class A {
private Integer bFk;
getter/setter
}
But on the flex client side, bFk is of type int. And a Flash int can not be null. So the remoting mechanism converts the Java null Integer to 0. After sending it back to the server, the Java bFk becomes 0 even on the Java side. - That is not acceptable, because I need to separate 0 and nullMy first workround is using not a Integer on the Java side, but an new Class NullAbleID, which works a bit like a wrapper/adapter, that wrap an internal int where -1 represent null (I can use -1 for null, because real id will be negative). But when I would using this it means I have to replace all Java Integer ids, by this NullAbleID class.

In my attempt to learn flex remoting I came across thisflexService.getRules.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, loadRules);here flexService is a remote java object . me that when esultEvent.RESULT will occur. On studying about ResultEvent in AS document it states as The event that indicates an RPC operation has successfully returned a resultSo keeping that in mind my guess is ResultEvent will be fired when flexService.getRules method will successfully return a list of object,where flexService is object of remote class FlexService having getRules function which returns list of object, Can any one please tell how exactly it works
