Flex :: Remoting Be Inside A Class In A Separate AS File?
Jul 27, 2009Should i keep Remoting Methods outside a class in a seperate AS file or is it possible to call Remoting inside a class.

View 1 RepliesImagine you have a MC used as a container for several other MC's used as buttons.Now, should I use the class of the container to listen for and to dispatch events. OrShould I create a seperate class for each MC inside of the container to listen for and to dispatch events.
In summary: One class for all, or several smaller classes dedicated to their respective MC.How far should one go with abstraction?.
Is it possible to refer to a variable in a class file separate from the one you are working in? Say Class1.as had a variable named "exampleVar", and in Class2.as you wanted to put something like "exampleVar++;". Is this possible and if so how would it be achieved?
View 1 RepliesI am looking to subclass RemoteObject. Instead of:
<mx:RemoteObject ... >
<mx:method ... />

I've created an button object in flash. The button contains 2 layers. One is the background image and on top of it is a textField. The textfield is dynamic. I use the button inside a movieclip and I export it in a SWC. The I'm trying to use it in flex.
I'm trying to do this:
var myComponent:MyComponent = new MyComponent();
myComponent.button01.theTextField.text = "Caption";
I get and instance of the button(myComponent.button01 is not null in Flex debugger), but the instance of the textField(myComponent.button01.theTextField) is null and I'm not able to change the text(but the default text appears onscreen). The code is compiled correctly in flex.
I exported the in swc the button control as well. So the button is not the default SimpleButton from Flash, but an derived class generated by flash(with the same name as the symbol defined in flash). It contains theTextField memeber, which is null.
Here is the button timeline(Layer 2 contains the textfield, and the textfield instance is named theTextField):
I want to be able to upload files to a mysql database via flash remoting and using php as the server side script. is this possible and how would you do it?
View 4 RepliesI am very new to remoting in flex. I am using flex 4.5 and talking to a web application built by someone else on the team using AMF. They have used Zend_AMF to serialize and unserialize the data.One of the main issues I am facing at the moment is that I will need to talk to a lot of services (about 60 or so).From examples on remoting I have seen online and from adobe, it seems that I need to define a remoting object for EACH service:
<mx:RemoteObject id="testservice" fault="testservice_faultHandler(event)" showBusyCursor="true" destination="account"/>
With so many services, I think I might have to define about 60 of those, which I don't think is very elegant.At the same time, I have been playing with Pinta to test out the AMF endpoint. Pinta seems to be able to allow one to define an arbitary amount of services, methods and parameters without any of these limitations. Digging through the source, I find that they have actually drilled down deep into the remoting and are handling a lot of low level stuff.
I have an MXML component that includes a .as file with
<fx:Script source="myfile.as" />
Running asdoc throws a whole bunch of errors like
"Error: The private attribute may be used only on class property definitions."
"Error: The public attribute can only be used inside a package."
Solution 1 is to move the AS code into the MXML file. Kind of defeats the objective of using external .as files for MXML components in the first place, so really a last resort option. Code inside a mxml file is messy (I really don't want logic mixed in with mxml), and would also require using the < !--- ---> asdoc syntax.
Solution 2 is to have the MXML component inherit from a normal class file. That would mean no private members in the base class, only internal (meaning a separate package for the component to be safe) or protected. This would make things tedious to say the least.
Are there any other work-arounds or possibly a beta/nightly version of asdoc that fixes the problem? I am using the Flex 4.1.0.16076 SDK, the "latest production quality release".
Update:Just tried using asdoc from the svn trunk, (4.5.0 rev. 16942) and the problem persists.
Is it possible (and if so recommended) to use Flex remoting (mx.rpc)classes in an actionscript only project?
I'm creating an application with login and registration to a php back end using AMFphp.
As an option I was wondering if it made sense to take advantage of the mx.rpc flex classes.
Is there a way to monitor the loading progress (percent progress bar style) when using Flex remoting?I'm trying out Flash Builder 4 with it's new data services features, but I can't find any pgrogress event stuff somewhere. This article by Robert Taylor URL... indicates that it might not be possible...
View 1 RepliesMy current coding for remote object declaration is messed up I wanna separate the remote object and the interface
Current Code :
<s:RemoteObject id="ro"
destination="customerService"
[code].....
Can anyone explain me the difference of all and also an another question does Zend AMF support all these.

View 2 RepliesI have created a class file with 2 functions one to load an xml file and the other to parse the file and push the values into an array. My problem is that I can't access this array inside another function unless pass the array as a parameter or the main timeline. Below is the class file I'm using:
Code:
import mx.utils.Delegate;
class XmlTest
{
[Code]....
What I would like to do is pass the array to another function in the class file. This function would loop through the array and push certain values into an array that would be returned to the main timeline so I can using them.
Is the same possible in ColdFusion? Currently I am using .Net/Fluorine to return objects to the client. Whilst in testing I like to pass strings representing the select statement and the custom object I wish to have returned from my service. Fluorine has a class ASObject to which you can set the var 'typeName'; which works great.
I am hoping that this is possible in Coldfusion. Does anyone know whether you can set the type of the returned object in a similar way. This is especially helpful with large collections as the flash player will convert them to a local object of the same name thus saving interating over the collection to convert the objects to a particular custom object.

I've been searching around trying to work this out for a while now. There's been various ideas popping up, like dispatchEvent etc but nothing that seems to be a clear, simple way of doing this.What I'm trying to do is call a function from a class seperate (but in the same folder as) my document class.Specifically, I want to 'spawn' an object and run a function within that object's class from my Main.as.The snippet I have at the moment is as follows;
In Main.as:
var object:class_Object = new class_Object();
object.spawn();

I have an Application consisting of a Java Server part and a Flash/Flex client, both communicate via BlazeDS. In order to have the same typed Objects on both sites, I use the GAS3 code generator (used by flex-mojos).But now I am facing the problem of handling nullable Integers. The problem is that I have an Object (A) which contains a foreign key ID which is reference an optional Object B. - But I only send the ID to the flex client.On the Java site it is easy:
class A {
private Integer bFk;
getter/setter
}
But on the flex client side, bFk is of type int. And a Flash int can not be null. So the remoting mechanism converts the Java null Integer to 0. After sending it back to the server, the Java bFk becomes 0 even on the Java side. - That is not acceptable, because I need to separate 0 and nullMy first workround is using not a Integer on the Java side, but an new Class NullAbleID, which works a bit like a wrapper/adapter, that wrap an internal int where -1 represent null (I can use -1 for null, because real id will be negative). But when I would using this it means I have to replace all Java Integer ids, by this NullAbleID class.
In my attempt to learn flex remoting I came across thisflexService.getRules.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, loadRules);here flexService is a remote java object . me that when esultEvent.RESULT will occur. On studying about ResultEvent in AS document it states as The event that indicates an RPC operation has successfully returned a resultSo keeping that in mind my guess is ResultEvent will be fired when flexService.getRules method will successfully return a list of object,where flexService is object of remote class FlexService having getRules function which returns list of object, Can any one please tell how exactly it works
View 2 RepliesI have searched for this everywhere but it seems like every answer is either overcomplicated or simply does not work, and I know for sure there should be a more simple way of achieving what I need. So, until today, I have always coded from within the timeline. But now I realise why I should code in separate class files. However, I still want to include snippets of code in the timeline for simplicity's sake.

Is there any way to use multiple document class inside same fla file,or change document class name dynamically i have 4-5 actionscript 3.0 file,these 4-5 files have codes of a game say level 1, level 2 ,level 3 , level 4 & 5 entirely different from each other.What i need is that when one level finishes, another level document class should be called?
View 3 RepliesI've been hitting dead ends while programming lately all over, and I finally came to the realization all the code I have that is broken is because I don't know how to interact with instances of one class from within another. Here's the gist of what I am trying to do:
if(this.hitTestObject(targetClip)){
trace("hit!");
}
The problem is, if I address a single instance that is on the canvas, I get "access to undefined property targetClip", even though the document class can interact with it fine. If I target the class file of targetClip, I get "Implicit coercion of a value of type Class to an unrelated type flash.display:DisplayObject". It isn't just a problem with hitTest either, I'm having this problem with other actions, so there is some basic syntax I'm failing to comprehend.
There is a client - server basic application. The client uses a simple remoting to comunicate with the server side. The server side could be powered on WebORB, BlazeDS or any other product. The client side is using the FLEX framework. That is it about a technologies stack. Now, let's forget about the server side and just have a look on the following client side

I'm new to Flash AS3. I started making a game and I am a bit confused. Let's assume that I want to create a game that has multiple levels/modes, how can I do this in an object orientated way?
When i create games in other languages e.g. XNA C#, i create a separate class then create an object of that class within the main class and run the game based on a simple statement.

I'm using Flex 4.5, and I have imported a custom class I wrote into the main MXML file.
Inside the class file, I want to be able to create a TitleWindow using the PopUpManager like this:
package classes {
import components.*; // My custom components
import mx.managers.PopUpManager;
[Code]....
This is because this isn't pointing at WindowedApplication. How do I make the first parameter in .createPopUp() point to the WindowedApplication?
How can i call MXML components inside my ActionScript Class.
// filename.mxml
<mx:Canvas x="181" y="180" width="333">
<mx:Button styleName="LoginButton" id="loginButton" click="checkLogin();" x="160" y="261"/>
<mx:TextInput styleName="loginTextInput" id="username" x="160" y="161"/>
[code]....
I need to access the username and password fields of MXML in my ActionScript Class.
i want to call an external function inside a class. thats the code;
in checkConnectionStatus function,
this[_funcNameForSucceededCon].apply(); doesnt work because "this" is the class, not the Application. How can i reach Application at this time or what can i do?
package myLibrary
{
import air.net.URLMonitor;
import flash.events.Event;

View 1 RepliesI am very new to ActionScript. I have a .fla file which contains the AS2 code for the frames. What I need to do is that I have to export this code as a separate file. There may be a separate file(or class file) for each frame code. Is it possible to me do it automatically without losing animation interactivity and functionality? Or is there any other way?
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to export text from a text field, which has been created in Flash and export it into an external file such as a text file or Word document?The idea is that information will be collected by the user into a text field within the swf. Hopefully, this information can then be exported into an external file which will allow the user to work on and edit at a later stage. It needs to be a separate editable document. Is this possible? I'm using Flash 8.
