Flex :: Compiling Project - Changing Consts Doesn't Elicit A Recompile
May 7, 2011
I'm not sure what happened but my Flex project seems to exhibit some strange compiler behavior. Two weird things:
1) I have a file with a lot of static consts. Changing consts doesn't elicit a recompile, so I need to clean and recompile to see the effects of any changes.
2) After every clean I get a same error in one of my main files (a type coercion that in fact should not be an error). If I save that file with a slight change, i.e. if I start a recompile due to changes in that file, all goes fine.

I've recently had the need to use the managers compiler argument, because the project had an Open Type font embedded, and was generating errors at compilation. Now I need to use the same argument in my ant task, but for some reason it doesn't work. I'm using Flex SDK 3.2.
The task looks something like:
<mxmlc
file="${main.class}"
output="${swf.export}"
actionscript-file-encoding="${ENCODING}"
keep-generated-actionscript="false"
[Code] .....
I've tried different variations, from using manager as a child element of mxmlc, to using it as an attribute, and combining it with prefixes (fonts, compiler.fonts). I've also tried to use it as sub-element of the element fonts, but nothing worked. I've considered using a shell task instead, but I'd rather not. For now I've changed flex-config.xml in the frameworks directory of the sdk, and it seems to do the trick, but I'm thinking there's got to be a way to do this in the task. Any exact elements I need to add to the task to make it work, without having to modify "flex-config.xml"?

When working on small projects or some test classes , I would prefer to quickly compile my code from the command line as opposed to creating a full Actionscript project in Flash Builder for instance.
In a previous similar question , an answer was given referring to this article:[URL]..but this is for Windows user...
I had a look at ProjectSprouts, which seems excellent but too heavy for the sort of task I'm looking for.
Would you know of any alternative approach that could be used to quickly compile a swf from the Terminal on Mac OSX?

i have a question and i'm hoping to find an answer here, i created a flashbuilder project that contains some classes with functions that i use often, i have around 6 classes, would it be possible to compile these classes to a swc file so i just have to add the swc in a new project to access them?
Or isnt it possible to create swc's with flashbuilder? Maybe i could do it in flash but dont have any idea how to compile multiple classes into 1 swc. file.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but ive never used it before and couldnt find much about is.

Does compiling a project through Ant reduce the size of the finished swf?If not, I've heard of something that helps the classes to not "learn" what another class already knows, (sort of), and thereby reducing the filesize by a big chunk...

Does anyone know how to recompile Adobe Flex 4 framework RSLs?
I'm using the compiler directive -dump-config to get the build config file that the FlashBuilder IDE is using for compiling my application. I then pass that config file into the mxmlc compiler so I can build from the command-line. The results of the command-line build are output to a folder other than bin-debug. bin-debug is a localtrust path, and it will an application will run from there without error. A Flash application in any other path requires configuring the Flash Player to trust that path OR that the compile be done with the -use-network=false directive. I prefer latter since I'll be distributing the results to lay users for evaluation, and I don't want to request that they modify Flash Player security settings.
The build config file doesn't specify that framework RSLs be rebuilt using the -use-network false directive. FlashBuilder itself doesn't even compile framework RSLs. It merely copies RSL swfs from the framework directory into the bin-debug. Those swfs apparently were compiled by Adobe with the default -use-network=true.

I am fairly new to actionscript but have quickly got sick of the flash IDE, so I have switched FlashDevelop which I like already. The problem I have now is that FlashDevelop still switches to Flash to compile the fla.This wouldnt be too much of an issue but the compile takes 30s + each time, which is a real pain for debugging.

Maven 2.2.1 unzipped,M2_HOME set and repository altered to point to different drive location in settings.xml Flex 4.0:
Installed Created a multi-modular webapp project using flexmojo:
mvn archetype:generate
-DarchetypeRepository=http://repository.sonatype.org/content/groups/flexgroup
-DarchetypeGroupId=org.sonatype.flexmojos
-DarchetypeArtifactId=flexmojos-archetypes-modular-webapp
-DarchetypeVersion=RELEASE
with following options
groupId=com.test
artifactId=test
version=1.0-snapshot
[code]....
Parent pom has swc, swf, war as modules.
Dependency is war->swf->swc.
With parent artifactId of swf, swc, war set to swf, swc, test respectively.On executing mvn on test folder(for that matter clean or anything) I get this following error.
G:Projects est>mvn -e
+ Error stacktraces are turned on.
[INFO] Scanning for projects...
Downloading: http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/com/test/swc/1.0-snapshot/swc-1.0-snapshot.pom

Looks like its trying to download the project from maven's central repository instead of building it.

I added an external stylesheet file (css) to my flex project. Is there a possibility that the css is not compiled with the swf? It would be great if I could put the swf on my webspace and afterwards only change a css file to customize my application and fit it to the colors of my homepage.

I've recently started making a game in FlexBuilder. The game is currently a Flex project. Is there any downside to using Flex as opposed to just Actionscript? A friend of a friend told me that Flex is slower than an Actionscript project. I've been unable to validate this on the internet; is there any truth to that claim?

I'm working on a project on Flex AS3.0 project in Flex Builder. It was working fine, I changed the name of one of my classes and all the related process. Now when I compile dubug the thing, it keeps on compiling an older version even if I comment all the code in main. It still compiles the old files. I have cleaned the project , but still the same old problem.

I´m working on a project for a presentation, but there is a weird bug...When I test the project in Flash, it works properly, but when I open the .exe or .swf file in my pc, it apparently does not work.The proyect is set to be in full screen, but while testing the .exe, if I press (ESC) to leave full screen mode, then it works perfect!
I need my proyect to be full screen, so removing that feature is not an option.The bug makes my proyect to stop in a frame, but if I press ESC, I can see that the project never stoped, and it's in the frame that it should be.I uploaded my proyect so you can download it if you want and help me. It weighs 3Mb, and contains a video.[URL]

I am having trouble compiling a project built in TextMate on a Mac. I have Flash Builder 4 and FlashDevelop on PC, and I cannot seem to compile the project even when I've downloaded the Flex 2 Hotfix 3 SDK. Flash Builder cannot work with Flex versions prior to Flex 3, so I'm left with Flashdevelop. When I assign the SDK path to point to the Flex 2 SDK, I get the following message when I try to compile:
command line: Error: unknown configuration variable 'static-link-runtime-shared-libraries' Use 'mxmlc -help' for information about using the command line. Build halted with errors (mxmlc). Is there something I'm missing, and is there an alternative way for me to compile this old project?
