View 1 RepliesI'm not sure what happened but my Flex project seems to exhibit some strange compiler behavior. Two weird things:
1) I have a file with a lot of static consts. Changing consts doesn't elicit a recompile, so I need to clean and recompile to see the effects of any changes.
2) After every clean I get a same error in one of my main files (a type coercion that in fact should not be an error). If I save that file with a slight change, i.e. if I start a recompile due to changes in that file, all goes fine.
I am creating an AIR app. In this app there's a need to copy a folder from a fixed known localtion C:xyz to app:/. I would like to know how can I do this copying before compilation/build so that they get packaged when I run the 'Export Release Build'
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to use the for each loop for the project I'm working on but this doesn't seem to work. "for" and "in" are terms recognized by flash (they turn blue when you finish typing them) but "each" does not. And of course I get a compiling error because the compiler does not recognize it. Did adobe change the wording of this loop?
View 1 Repliesi have built a custom class, which i call from a frame script. the custom class takes only one parameter, which is a string URL of an XML file. SUDDENLY, when i move all the files off of my desktop into a different folder, i receive compiler errors, stating it can not find my custom class .as file, even though it's in the same folder! why is this happening? here's my entire frame script:

When working on small projects or some test classes , I would prefer to quickly compile my code from the command line as opposed to creating a full Actionscript project in Flash Builder for instance.
In a previous similar question , an answer was given referring to this article:[URL]..but this is for Windows user...
I had a look at ProjectSprouts, which seems excellent but too heavy for the sort of task I'm looking for.
Would you know of any alternative approach that could be used to quickly compile a swf from the Terminal on Mac OSX?
i have a question and i'm hoping to find an answer here, i created a flashbuilder project that contains some classes with functions that i use often, i have around 6 classes, would it be possible to compile these classes to a swc file so i just have to add the swc in a new project to access them?
Or isnt it possible to create swc's with flashbuilder? Maybe i could do it in flash but dont have any idea how to compile multiple classes into 1 swc. file.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but ive never used it before and couldnt find much about is.
Does compiling a project through Ant reduce the size of the finished swf?If not, I've heard of something that helps the classes to not "learn" what another class already knows, (sort of), and thereby reducing the filesize by a big chunk...
View 1 RepliesI am being very hard headed and determined that I am going to give Textmate a solid try for my actionscript and flex projects. Work on the bundle has been a little lacking but what has been developed so far is pretty great. I have run into some slight issues but able to figure them out and get things set up pretty well and I have already dug in and started customizing the snippets to suit my needs.
One thing that I have not been able to fix, figure out or find a straight answer for is regarding working with MXML files. AutoComplete for Actionscript files seems to work great but I don't seem to get the same result when I am editing Actionscript inside the script block in a MXML file.
I have been trying to find solutions to this everywhere and cannot find any concise, clear instructions on how to set up Flex and Actionscript properly on TextMate. That is, I have the bundles but in terms of setting shell environments etc so that you can compile with ANT, find documentation for keyword (Reference Doc) within the app. For the latter ,when i try and do that it says no documentation found.
My shell env stuff is as follows:
TM_FLEX_PATH /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder Burrito/sdks/flex_sdk_4.5.0.17689 TM_FLASH_HELP /Users/doronkatz/langRef (this is where i have the as doc zip file i downloaded)
I am wondring if anyone has a good resource for opening existing Flex projects that where created in Flex / Flash Builder and run them using the TextMate bundle for Flex and Actionscript projects.
Basically I just want to know if I can walk into an existing project and configure this easily or am I pretty much stuck with using Eclipse ?
Its stated in adobe site that the Flash Builder 4 compiler is indeed 25% more performing than the previous Flex Builder 3 compiler.
How can I confirm that?
For example if I make a simple application on Fx3 and the same on Fx4, then how would I compare the compiler performance using my project?
I'm creating some custom components and backing code. I've created a Flex library project in Flash Builder which compiles to a SWC. The problem is now that all my MXML files get compiled into classes in the default package, making the whole thing a big mess.Is there a way to set a package declaration for MXML files? After all it just gets translated into AS3 classes. This seems to work in regular Flex projects using a namespace declaration so I'm at a loss how that is supposed to work. The other option is building out all the components in AS3 which I'd like to avoid.
View 1 RepliesI have written a custom component in CS5 and exported it as an SWC. It works fine and dandy if I place it on a timeline with one frame. It compiles in a timely manner, and ends up being 33k in size... However if I extend the timeline to say... 240 frames (10 seconds), and do nothing else (the component persists on all frames) it takes several orders of magnitude longer to compile (from a couple seconds to a few minues). Yet, the compiled swf remains exactly the same size (down to the last byte). I'm assuming the compiler is doing some sort of optimization... But I'd like to know what's going on... It should not take that long to compile the video, and makes the component practically useless.. I know there aren't many people doing Components (especially in Flash).
View 1 RepliesI'm looking at a tutorial to display placemarks using a KML file on a flex application. I'm using IGN API (openscales) in flex project. The example works perfectly (http:/[url].......
<os:KML url="http://www.parisavelo.net/velib.kml"
proxy="http://openscales.org/proxy.php?url="
numZoomLevels="20"
style="{Style.getDefaultCircleStyle()}"/>
But when I'm hosting the same kml file on my server like that :
<os:KML url="http://www.cycom.org/velib.kml"
proxy="http://openscales.org/proxy.php?url="
numZoomLevels="20"
style="{Style.getDefaultCircleStyle()}"/>
Placemarks don't show up on the map. I tried to host the kml file on different hosts but that doesn't change.
I am working on this one project that has a couple of movieclips (already placed on stage) which have a custom class set to export via the Library. Each of those custom classes loads an external SWF using URLRequest().
Is it possible (or, what is the best way) to preload the whole project first, including the external SWFs?
Is there a way that I can load (or export) Flex/Flash builder project in Flash Professional CS5?As it turns out we got Flash Prof for our team, but it may look like we actually need Flash builder to build lots of UI related stuff..
View 1 RepliesI have an ActionScript project with several classes that i compiled as an swf using Adobe Flex (by creating an actionscript project and clicking on export -> release build)Is there a way to load that swf so i'll be able to load it's classes and use them on a different swf? i know i can use the following code to load an swf file:[code]
View 3 RepliesToday I tried to connect to other domain.I changed url of endpoint, but it looks like flex just ignores my changes.I am sure that an old url doesn't exist in any file in src directory,I even renamed services-config.xml to services-config2.xml, cleaned and rebuilded project many times, even made a release build, but it still connects to the same domain.I have tested flex application in localhost and in the same domain, that has AMF services, but it works in the same way.My services-config.xml is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<services-config>

I downloaded flexlib source from [url]...
I want to be able to set it up and run it in flex builder and play with it for learning purpose.
I tried to use the import project option by pointing to the flexlib directory but it did not work - I think thats because the source by default does not have any .project or properties files.
I have a flashbuilder project with a big image. The problem is that the default preloader does not load the images/swf's inside the project. Is there a way to preload them?
View 1 RepliesI'm using Parsley in my flex mobile project. I have multiple destination services but I can't find more resources on how to add another destination service to config.xml file. The file is as below:
<objects
xmlns="http://www.spicefactory.org/parsley"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.spicefactory.org/parsley

I have to port an existing project to Maven, and it includes a resource called "config.xml" that is copied to the deploy directory alongside the SWF and HTML, and loaded at run-time to locate a bunch of WSDLs.
Flex Mojos has taken it upon itself to assume that my xml file is a flex-config file with instructions for the compiler, which of course promptly gives up the ghost.
The question is: How do I specify a named config file for the compiler so that Maven stops this nonsense (as well as specifying my compile-time options)?
I am using Flex/Flash to build a UI which front-ends my Rails server application. I am using WebORB as the communication mechanism. My question should apply beyond just WebORB, however. (I think).
Specifically, it has to do with the services-config.xml file. I have a local (laptop) dev environment, a remote dev and a remote production environment. I am sick of editing the URL in the services-config.xml file, rebuilding and deploying every time I want to test in a different environment.
[Code]...
By setting the URI="/weborb" and giving it a relative path, I figured it would work. locally--but it doesn't when I deploy it to my remote dev and prod environments (Heroku). Weird.
i apologize if this post is redundant. i'm searching unsuccessfully for recent, step-by-step instructions on how to set up ActionScript 3, Flex 4.5 and AIR 2.6 with TextMate on Mac OS X. i've found several posts concerning required bundles, but most of the threads are a few years old in addition to having convoluted, sparse instructions for setting up. it seems that auto-complete and .swc files are supported, which is great. in addition to instructions i'm also very interested in learning about what isn't supported and other common pitfalls.
i've been familiarizing myself with TextMate's UI and it's amazing. i would much rather use it than Flash Builder / Eclipse, or even Flash Professional. one last question - i understand that it's possible to set up our own keyboard shortcuts to compile with MXMLC and write the .swf to disk. is it possible to have the .swf auto open in Flash Player Debugger after it is compiled. essentially, i'd like to continue using Command+Enter shortcut for testing movies in Flash Professional to build and launch since i would certain have a difficult time adjusting to new muscle memory.
Is it possible to compile a Flash project without the use, or presence, of the Flash IDE?
View 3 RepliesI am fairly new to actionscript but have quickly got sick of the flash IDE, so I have switched FlashDevelop which I like already. The problem I have now is that FlashDevelop still switches to Flash to compile the fla.This wouldnt be too much of an issue but the compile takes 30s + each time, which is a real pain for debugging.
View 2 RepliesWe can auto-generate flex-confix xml file from flash-builder so to provide users that want to compile project on there own would be capable of doing such thing with out buying FB. So we use something like -dump-config slotConfig.xml as flex compiler argment. This generates a file for us... with lots of detailed comments like this one I generated from that project:
<flex-config>
