Flash Project Compiling Without Flash IDE?
Aug 2, 2010Is it possible to compile a Flash project without the use, or presence, of the Flash IDE?

View 3 RepliesI am fairly new to actionscript but have quickly got sick of the flash IDE, so I have switched FlashDevelop which I like already. The problem I have now is that FlashDevelop still switches to Flash to compile the fla. This wouldnt be too much of an issue but the compile takes 30s + each time, which is a real pain for debugging.
View 2 RepliesWhen working on small projects or some test classes , I would prefer to quickly compile my code from the command line as opposed to creating a full Actionscript project in Flash Builder for instance.
In a previous similar question , an answer was given referring to this article:[URL]..but this is for Windows user...
I had a look at ProjectSprouts, which seems excellent but too heavy for the sort of task I'm looking for.
Would you know of any alternative approach that could be used to quickly compile a swf from the Terminal on Mac OSX?
i have a question and i'm hoping to find an answer here, i created a flashbuilder project that contains some classes with functions that i use often, i have around 6 classes, would it be possible to compile these classes to a swc file so i just have to add the swc in a new project to access them?
Or isnt it possible to create swc's with flashbuilder? Maybe i could do it in flash but dont have any idea how to compile multiple classes into 1 swc. file.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but ive never used it before and couldnt find much about is.
Does compiling a project through Ant reduce the size of the finished swf?If not, I've heard of something that helps the classes to not "learn" what another class already knows, (sort of), and thereby reducing the filesize by a big chunk...

View 1 RepliesI'm not sure what happened but my Flex project seems to exhibit some strange compiler behavior. Two weird things:
1) I have a file with a lot of static consts. Changing consts doesn't elicit a recompile, so I need to clean and recompile to see the effects of any changes.
2) After every clean I get a same error in one of my main files (a type coercion that in fact should not be an error). If I save that file with a slight change, i.e. if I start a recompile due to changes in that file, all goes fine.
I have an weird issue with a fla file. I've worked on a big project for a long time ago. I use cs4 to compile the fla and Flash Develop for the classes. Yesterday I compiled many times and suddenly CS3 stopped executing actionscript. There is no compile errors, nothing. Just doesn't execute the code. I typed a simple trace in the first frame and deleted the symbols on the stage - it didn't trace nothing. When trying to compile this file I noticed that the size of the compiled swf cut down in the end of compiling - in decreases from 700KB to 300KB. I made a size report - it is strange that action script bytes is only 6, but I have many (about 100) classes:
ActionScript Bytes: 6
Location: ActionScript 3.0 Classes
It doesn't run any action script no matter whether it is in classes or directly in timeline frames.
The problem is not with CS3 because it compiles perfect other flash files. Do you have ideas why it happens? I've never seen such problem before?
I am new to creating Flex applications and trying to target Flash Player 10.2 with my first. I have created it using Flash Builder 4.6 and compiled using the 4.5a SDK. I've also set the option to target 10.2.0 in the the Adobe Flash Player options. When I create the release build, there are no error and the resulting HTML file contains the following:For version detection, set to min. required Flash Player version, or 0 (or 0.0.0), for no version detection.var swfVersionStr = "10.2.0";However, if I try to visit the application in a browser with v10.2 of the plug-in it says 11.1 is needed. I also have the same problem with a simple Flash CS5 animation that only uses stop() and getURL(). The animation works but doesn't stop.URL..

View 1 RepliesI have set up a Flash Project to publish two FLAs simultaneously. However, when I click on "Test Project" I get the following error message:Quote:Cannot open a protected movie. However, when I publish each of these FLAs independently, I do not get the error message and the file publishes and runs with no problem.

View 1 RepliesSince I purchased flash CS4 (upgrading from flash 8), I have gradually shifted from writing code in AS2 to AS3. Now all of my projects are in AS3 except 1, it's an old legacy project written in such a way that conversion would be almost impossible. Earlier today I started to work on it and then tried to compile it causing flash to crash. After about an hour I realised that whenever I compile an AS2 project flash crashed. After trying to download patches, restarting countless times and searching the internet for similar bugs, I uninstalled and reinstalled flash. But to no avail, the bug persisted. So I decided to create an acount and post about the bug I encountered on this form, hoping that somone might know about it.
View 3 RepliesI use the facebook class [URL] in my project. When I compile my project (Air 2.0) with the facebook class it takes longer than one minute to compile. What would I do to make compiling faster? Compiling in Flash Builder seems much faster than in Flash CS5.

Is there some official Adobe article regarding this? Couldn't find one for half a day
Is its currently possible to publish a Flash App to iPad? I see Flash CS5 has the ability to publish to iPhone/iPad - is Apple supporting this and will be able to be sold in the App store. It would be a lot simpler for me to code up my next project in flash as opposed to objective c and cocos2d.
View 1 RepliesI am a as3 programmer trying to make a iphone aplication with Adobe cs5. for some reason flash doesnt want to recognise any of my code..
if i put a trace like.. "trace("wtf");" on the first frame it doesnt work.
Anyone knows why flash doesnt compile my code? gr, Apollo
"Edit": Adobe Air 2.0 doesnt work either, iphone is Air aswell but diffrent publishing ofc.
I have a CodeIgniter project and I made a back-office in Flex. I was wondering how I can implement the Flex project in my CodeIgniter since I'm working with routing I can't route to any directory. So there isn't a way to display the back-office.
View 1 RepliesHopefully this is a straight forward question but as far as resources when compiling a flash project is flash more cpu dependent or gpu dependent? Trying to spec out a machine and need to determine what flash is going to use more.
View 1 RepliesI've been using Flash for 10 years and I've never seen this problem with images after publishing. I've also worked with graphics for many years, but I can't seem to figure out what could be causing this problem with Flash compling this image.
The image is RGB, the image displays properly when opened in other applications on my computer, it also displays properly in the Flash library and on the stage. I've imported it as PNG and JPG, but neither of them work. The other graphics in my fla file look fine. When I publish/compile the Flash file, all the colors are messed up - you can barely make out the graphic, it looks all digitzed and pixelated, with major color distortions. I've tried adjusting the publish jpg quality, but that doesn't help. I'm convinced this is a bug in Flash, since I have the same problem when I publish on the laptop and on my desktop, but I'm not sure.
Is there any way to use incremental compiling? I seem to have added alot of bitmap graphics to my library and I think I may have added to much over time and dind't notice how badly it was affecting my compile time. In my next project, i'll definately be doing bitmap graphics last. But is there a way for me to do incremental compiling in flash cs 5.5 authoring tool?[code]....

Is there any way to remove compiler errors beacause it is coming every time when i run movie.
I have a large Flash presentation consisting of 12 slides. When exporting or previewing the movie all of the tweens appear corrupted. They flicker on the first keyframe - go blank - then display the last keyframe all static. I'm using CS3 on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHZ with 2GB of Ram. I have a dual boot setup and the same thing happens in both OS X and Windows XP. I've found a laborious work around in that if I go into each movieclip, and nested movieclip, move the timeline slider then re-export... that particular tween will then animate correctly. I can go through the entire file and thereby export the SWF with animations in tact... But this takes a lot of time and every time I restart my machine it has to be done again from scratch to export the file.... This has happened before on a large Flash file and I reinstalled Flash from scratch and it didn't fix it.
I'm wondering if this could potentially be a bug relating to how much RAM I have? I sent the file to someone who has 4GB of RAM on their PC and it exports correctly. I will be doing a lot of presentations of this nature and would like to know if there is a way to fix this bug or if it is really related to how much RAM you have and how big the Flash file is??

Might the errors be because the code is for Flash Player 11? As I am running Flash CS4, when I go to Publish settings, the highest flash player I can use is 10, so I can't choose 11. If anyone has time to take a peek, I have put the code together here, which contains the FLA, AS file, and the include libraries I mention above:

We recognized that some older flash projects are compiling well in the old CS4 Flash but fail in CS5 (same player verison). Is there any list of things that has changed for compiling in CS5?

Anyone experienced problems with this?
I've been working on a SWF that will be converted into a Projector file, no particular great shakes but some fun logic driving some aspects. Written Flex 4.5 it has been a doddle until I test the projector on a new / clean machine and without (v important this) a network connection. What happens is the movie fails with an... Error #2032: Stream Error: URL: file:///C:|/mydirectory/framework_4.5.0.20967.swz
after some research I realise this is an RSL (Runtime Shared Library) that is cached on the local machine (WIN7) under the 'C:Users\AppDataRoamingAdobeFlash PlayerAssetCache<8 Char Path>' along with a host of other RSLs. But in my disconnected state it doesn't work, however, if the machine is connected it does work (by downloading and caching the appropriate libraries from Adobe). Unfortunately I need to deploy this Projector file as a single entity and often into disconnected scenarios. Reviewing Flex's build options I've selected 'Merged into code' for the Framework Linkage that I assumed would create my single, deployable object but alas no.
I have a tiny actionscript "project" consisting of two files, call them foo.as and bar.as. For reasons I won't go into, I really really want to build the .SWF from the command line, without setting up a formal project of any kind. Every compiler I've ever used lets you do this, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to coerce MXMLC into compiling these two files and linking them into a SWF.
Naively, I try
MXMLC foo.as bar.as
but I'm informed that only one source file is allowed.supposing I compiled these two files separately, how would I link them together to get the final SWF?
NOTE: The only reason I have two files instead of one is the requirement of only one class per file. I tried putting both classes in one file and making one of the classes "private" or "internal" but neither of these ideas worked. I would be ecstatic to find out I can put more than one class in a file (with only one being public).
I'm having some trouble getting Haxe to play audio files in Flash 8.At the top of my hx file, I have:import flash.MovieClip;import flash.Sound;and, within the class itself, I preload a lot of image files along with the names of the audio files. The idea is to do a slideshow with audio content. Basically, display the first slide and play the audio associated with it.Then, once that audio is finished, move on to the next slide and next audio file. I have the slides fading in and out okay but when I tried to add sound, nothing comes out the speakers. The following code is what I'm doing - the sound file associated with audios[0] never starts playing and I'm at a loss as to why.

static var master : MovieClip;
static var slides : Array<MovieClip>;
