ActionScript 3.0 :: Compiling Well In The Old CS4 Flash But Fail In CS5 (same Player Verison)?
Oct 28, 2010
We recognized that some older flash projects are compiling well in the old CS4 Flash but fail in CS5 (same player verison). Is there any list of things that has changed for compiling in CS5?
I have two flash movies communicating with each other using localConnection, passing an object from swfA to swfB. This seems to work fine, but will occasional fail. The only information we have is that the status event is fired with a level of error, there is no other information. Once a connection has failed it will continue to do so.
I don't know why it's happening but it is not a security problem (both movies are running on the same domain) and all communication is wrapped in a try..catch.
alternative method for communicating between movies? I've tried using ExternalInterface but it's too slow for the number of updates that are sent.
I am new to creating Flex applications and trying to target Flash Player 10.2 with my first. I have created it using Flash Builder 4.6 and compiled using the 4.5a SDK. I've also set the option to target 10.2.0 in the the Adobe Flash Player options. When I create the release build, there are no error and the resulting HTML file contains the following:For version detection, set to min. required Flash Player version, or 0 (or 0.0.0), for no version detection.var swfVersionStr = "10.2.0";However, if I try to visit the application in a browser with v10.2 of the plug-in it says 11.1 is needed. I also have the same problem with a simple Flash CS5 animation that only uses stop() and getURL(). The animation works but doesn't stop.URL..
I"m a bit confused because FlexUnith 4's behavior. When I use fail() in try-catch body fail method is just ignored.
[Code]....
I suppose this one should fail as there is no way around it, but it succeeds and turns green. Whatam I doing wrong? When i put fail() before try-catch block it fails as it is suposed to. BTW using Flash builder 4.
How do I change the frame of my timeline from my player class. I cannot just write gotoAndStop() because it will change the frame of the player not the timeline. I figured I would try this:
If you have a very large project Flash CS5 fails to compile it. The same error used to occur in CS4 until the 10.0.2 patch was released. Is this going to be fixed in Flash CS5? Currently Flash CS5 is completely useless to us because of this problem.
I have a couple of buttons in my flash application that call two different javascript functions. They work in all browsers except IE9 (I haven't tried earlier IEs). My code to call the function is something like this:
I'm making simple 3D transformations in Flash to rotate stuff, but I get distortions. I can rotation left, right, up, down, but not diagonally since it completely distorts my faces (the ones I draw).I think I fail to move the camera somehow, but I'm not experienced enough to understand my error. Here's the file: http:[url]....
Example: when a face is rotated at about 45° around the y axis (vertical to screen) and then rotated around the x axis the perspective doesn't feel right... the faces are too narrow. What I do is multiply the rotation matrices between themselves (the mouse position providing the angles) get the transformed points, project them to screen and draw boxes with them.
I'm implementing AMF service methods for an flash front-end. Normally things work fine, but we've found that if two methods are called one right after the other, the second call returns null to the flash front-end even though the method actually completes successfully on the PHP end (to verify this, I dump the return data to a file right before I return it).
I'm using Javascript to call a method on a Flash movie embedded in an ASPX page using SWFObject. It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (so far) claim the object returned by swfobject.getObjectById() "doesn't support this property or method". I've found similar posts on this site and others, but nothing I've tried has fixed this in IE.
ActionScript 3.0 class: public class Player extends MovieClip { public function Player() { Security.allowDomain("http://localhost"); ExternalInterface.addCallback("test", test); [Code] .....
Internet Explorer complains about the last line in that function, "Object doesn't support this property or method".
I've done a complex animation in After Effects and want this to be part of a Flash movie, running on timeline as a sequence.I rendered this as a PSD sequence (RGB+alpha) with hoping, this has transparent background in Flash. But Flash seems not understanding about alpha layers and displays black background instead of no-background. I also rendered this as PNG sequence but failed again the images opened in wrong size and were really huge, so Flash Player wouldn't play it smoothly. Then I saved just a frame as Photoshop Layers which after importing to Flash has transparency in it. Sure, doing it frame-by-frame is a time consuming process and feels stupid way to do.
did anyone else notice after switching to flash cs5 the auto format will fail constantly? 90% of the time i comment something out the auto format will error.
Since I purchased flash CS4 (upgrading from flash 8), I have gradually shifted from writing code in AS2 to AS3. Now all of my projects are in AS3 except 1, it's an old legacy project written in such a way that conversion would be almost impossible. Earlier today I started to work on it and then tried to compile it causing flash to crash. After about an hour I realised that whenever I compile an AS2 project flash crashed. After trying to download patches, restarting countless times and searching the internet for similar bugs, I uninstalled and reinstalled flash. But to no avail, the bug persisted. So I decided to create an acount and post about the bug I encountered on this form, hoping that somone might know about it.
I have a background MovieClip in a custom button class, which moves the play head to a different frame (via gotoAndStop("framename")) depending on which mouse events it receives. When the mouse up event is received, it sends the play head back to the "release" frame, where the background should shift back to its original location, but instead nothing happens and the background remains where it was. It's as though Flash is not honoring the background's position defined by the key frame it enters.
The only workaround is to add a frame script to each frame which manually sets the x and y position to what it should be, but this defeats the purpose of using keyframes for the position.
I use the facebook class [URL] in my project. When I compile my project (Air 2.0) with the facebook class it takes longer than one minute to compile. What would I do to make compiling faster? Compiling in Flash Builder seems much faster than in Flash CS5.
Is its currently possible to publish a Flash App to iPad? I see Flash CS5 has the ability to publish to iPhone/iPad - is Apple supporting this and will be able to be sold in the App store. It would be a lot simpler for me to code up my next project in flash as opposed to objective c and cocos2d.
I'm trying to add a login for running my flash movie. When the user clicks the login button, the text of the password field is authenticated, which allows gotoAndPlay(2) .
But the problem is both in my .swf and my projector .exe i can easily jump the login frame by pressing Ctrl+Enter .
I have a project that I need to develop some Java code for. The project is using Flash and BlazeDS. For the initial build of the project, an Ant script is run that eventually runs what I believe is the Flex compiler (the sdk attribute points to a FlashBuilder 4 sdk/4.1.0 directory).
Hopefully this is a straight forward question but as far as resources when compiling a flash project is flash more cpu dependent or gpu dependent? Trying to spec out a machine and need to determine what flash is going to use more.
I've been using Flash for 10 years and I've never seen this problem with images after publishing. I've also worked with graphics for many years, but I can't seem to figure out what could be causing this problem with Flash compling this image.
The image is RGB, the image displays properly when opened in other applications on my computer, it also displays properly in the Flash library and on the stage. I've imported it as PNG and JPG, but neither of them work. The other graphics in my fla file look fine. When I publish/compile the Flash file, all the colors are messed up - you can barely make out the graphic, it looks all digitzed and pixelated, with major color distortions. I've tried adjusting the publish jpg quality, but that doesn't help. I'm convinced this is a bug in Flash, since I have the same problem when I publish on the laptop and on my desktop, but I'm not sure.
Is there any way to use incremental compiling? I seem to have added alot of bitmap graphics to my library and I think I may have added to much over time and dind't notice how badly it was affecting my compile time. In my next project, i'll definately be doing bitmap graphics last. But is there a way for me to do incremental compiling in flash cs 5.5 authoring tool?[code]....
I have a large Flash presentation consisting of 12 slides. When exporting or previewing the movie all of the tweens appear corrupted. They flicker on the first keyframe - go blank - then display the last keyframe all static. I'm using CS3 on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHZ with 2GB of Ram. I have a dual boot setup and the same thing happens in both OS X and Windows XP. I've found a laborious work around in that if I go into each movieclip, and nested movieclip, move the timeline slider then re-export... that particular tween will then animate correctly. I can go through the entire file and thereby export the SWF with animations in tact... But this takes a lot of time and every time I restart my machine it has to be done again from scratch to export the file.... This has happened before on a large Flash file and I reinstalled Flash from scratch and it didn't fix it.
I'm wondering if this could potentially be a bug relating to how much RAM I have? I sent the file to someone who has 4GB of RAM on their PC and it exports correctly. I will be doing a lot of presentations of this nature and would like to know if there is a way to fix this bug or if it is really related to how much RAM you have and how big the Flash file is??
I am trying to run this AS code from wonderfl.net: [URL] I have downloaded the right files to ensure this works:
[Code]...
Might the errors be because the code is for Flash Player 11? As I am running Flash CS4, when I go to Publish settings, the highest flash player I can use is 10, so I can't choose 11. If anyone has time to take a peek, I have put the code together here, which contains the FLA, AS file, and the include libraries I mention above:
I have an weird issue with a fla file. I've worked on a big project for a long time ago. I use cs4 to compile the fla and Flash Develop for the classes. Yesterday I compiled many times and suddenly CS3 stopped executing actionscript. There is no compile errors, nothing. Just doesn't execute the code. I typed a simple trace in the first frame and deleted the symbols on the stage - it didn't trace nothing. When trying to compile this file I noticed that the size of the compiled swf cut down in the end of compiling - in decreases from 700KB to 300KB. I made a size report - it is strange that action script bytes is only 6, but I have many (about 100) classes:
