In HTML/CSS, if you float items, DIV's that exceed the width of the container are moved down 1 line.
I would like to achieve this in FLEX. I have 3 components with variable width. I would like for the 3rd component to be moved down when it doesnt fit the container any more.
Does anyone know of a simple way to implement a DividedBox layout similar to flex, but done through Flash/as3 ?
I would think there would be a library out there for that already, or some resources, but I'm having a hard time googling for it, as it;s either Flex or unrelated content I keep finding.

I am converting my site into a fluid/floating flash site and I'm having just a couple of problems. First, when I re size the window, i need THE BROWSER to create a regular vertical (or horizontal) scrollbar when the window gets to small to display all of the information. Right now, it just cuts off my the main area of my site when the window is to small. I don't know if I disabled this in my AS3 or in my html, but I think it was the AS3
I am really new to actionscript. I am using AS3 but I found a really good floating layout tutorial for AS2, but I am not good enough at coding to translate it over. And this tutorial for AS3 [URL] seems to be the only decent floating tut I can find for AS3 but it is not in depth enough.

I am using Flex 4 with Spark components to build a mobile application and I have a HGroup that I am using to contain all of my elements. When the screen loads it pulls in a small amount of text that will be displayed and loops through all the words to see if any of them are a keyword. While it is looping I am putting each word into its own label element and if the word is a keyword it changes a few styles and adds a click event to show a description about the word.Everything runs fine but when everything is appended to the HGroup, there ends up being only one line and most of the text completely cut off because it will not wrap the content.My Question is - Is there a way to set or extend the HGroup to allow content wrapping on its child elements?Below are some code snippets of what I have:

1. merge column headers ( as in group just the cells in the header row ).
2. add multiple ( say 2 ) headers to the grid.
I'm trying to create a "floating" style navigation similar to the link below but WITHOUT and 3D effect. Just text/navigation that is floating and reacting ever so slightly to the xmouse/ymouse and maybe scaling on rollover or something...I don't know where to start...

I would need to float an image (which will be the same height as one line of text) in a dynamic textield, and when the textfield is resized, the image should follow like its part of the text.(red picture is the image)Putting and img tag inside htmlText doesnt do anything.The best I could think so far (using TextLineMetrics or similar) is to leave a space, (or these dots (......) so that text doesnt collapse), and calculate where the last word before these dots is exactly from the top left of the textfield and place a movieclip on this position.
View 2 RepliesHaving a problem with a little animation involving balloons floating in and then floating out again when a condition is met. There are two ways they can float in or out: from left to right, or completely randomly. I actually like it as coming in (left to right) and going out (random) but it's essentially up to the user.
Since I moved my Array sort code into the function that basically deals with telling the balloons to float off though, I've been having problems. Sometimes one or a couple of the balloons will not float off and I'm kind of boggled as to why. Because it works fine IF the Array sort part is outside this function, I'm wondering whether, when the for loop at the bottom starts running, the Array is still being sorted and that's why some balloons get left behind.

View 1 RepliesI have a weather widget that is flash and expandable. one of the issues i had is when I expand the widget, it wouldn't expand passed the flash container size, so most of the content is cut up. I increased the size of the flash container and that worked. The problem is that the I have another facebook widget that is below the weather widget and that got pushed a lot. I moved the facebook widget up with a negative margin and now they are aligned fine. BUT i can't interact with the facebook widget. and I think the reason is that it is actually behind the flash container. it works fine on ie but i am trying to get it to work on chrome. I have changed the z-index to make the facebook widget on top of the flash, but the flash started to appear behind the facebook now.[URL]...

Basically the majority of my content is flash based. I designed it using Flash Builder (Flex) and Its in a liquid layout, (everything is in percents) and if im JUST embedding the flash content it scales to the page fine, and i have the flash content set to have a padding of 50 px.
I put a header div in fine with no problems, but I have 2 problems, the first being the footer div seems to cover up the buttom of the flash content in IE, but it looks just fine in chrome. How can I solve this? I'm using the stock embed code that Flex provides, I tried to edit the css style for the div which I think is #flashContent and give it a min width and min height but it didnt seem to work, actually anything I did to #flashContent didn't seem to do anything, maybe its not the div i need to be adding that attribute to...
And my other problem is I dont even know where to start when it comes to placing a div thats 280width by 600height colum to the right side of the flash content. If i could specify a size for the flash content, and the float it left, and float the colum right, and clear it with the container div id be just fine....But remember the flash content is set to 100% Scale (well techically 100%x80% because it looked better that way). how I can start to deal with creating a more complex scaleable flash layouts that includes other divs? ALL WELL MAINTAINING IE SUPPORT? IE is ruining my life.

I want to have a canvas with some "floating" property. Basically when I add child to it, the child should float at the top. When I add the second child, it should float above the previous one. For example the canvas width is 100, and I have two VideoDisplay with width 100 and height 75.

View 1 RepliesI am writing a Flex application for use on a private intranet with no external Internet access. I want to use Google's 3D Maps Flex API, but it must be connected to the internet to download map tiles on demand.
Is there a way to locally cache the 3D map tiles and data so that I can run this app without an internet connection? And if not, is there a 3D GIS that supports Flex integration and allows for a local map cache?
I have a custom TextInput-based component for date and time with certain restrictions on what's considered "within range". But it's still fine to insert dates that are outside the range. When a user types in a date, on valueCommit, I'd like to be able to display a hovering notification to the user, to inform/warn them that the date is outside the accepted range.
I'm thinking of notifications ala the Validators, but I'd rather not use the Validator mechanism because it's really not validation, just notification. Something like a tooltip, but it will only appear if the user changed the value. Maybe an effect of some sort?

I've considered styling a Tree or Accordion to get the desired look and feel. But before I spend time on one approach versus another, I thought to ask first. Does anyone know a component that I could use to achieve this? Or an example of someone doing a similar vertical navigation bar? It should only be one level deep and some parent nodes might not have children (doesn't expand).

Now the last name form will only appear in the register screen. This would be really useful I think in .NET where you use the page for views like update / insert. I was considering extending the Page element to have a states property using extension methods, and adding the include in to controls. This way I could auto-hide controls based on the current view at render time.
What is even cooler in Flex, is that you can use different handlers / properties based on the current state.

I have an AdvancedDataGrid that's pretty wide (lots of columns that need to be wide enough to read) that I need to print. The PrintAdvancedDataGrid.sizeToPage property adjusts the height of the grid so that page breaks only occur between rows.
I'm looking for something similar for columns.
Here's a test case (main program, FlexBuilder 4.5)

When you run this and press the Print button, you'll see the grid printed across 4 pages. That's a good thing - in my real app, I need the grid that wide. My concern is that the page breaks are splitting columns in a very ugly way.
