I want to create a data grid that has 4 columns: description, quantity, price, and line total. The line total will simply be the product of quantity & price. I want the last line of the grid to be the total of all line totals. How can I create this type of grid? I thought of using item renderers, but I can't figure out how to have the last row be for the line items total. If I must create a custom component,book recommendations on custom component creation. While I have a general understanding of how to create custom components, I don't have a firm a grip on it as I'd like

I'm looking to create a solution that will enable me to have a folder of AVI files on a USB drive, packaged along with a custom designed player (probably built in Flash). I would like to creare the packaged flash file in a way that will autorun on inserting the drive if at all possible. The solution will need to be platform agnostic (hence my thinking that Flash would be the best bet). Has anyone come across a tutorial for achieving anything even similar to the above?

I had 7 columns in an advanced datagrid and have one comboBox with all of the columns names.The datagrid should show only the columns the use has selected in the comboBox. Does this mean customization of the advanced datagrid columns? If anyone has any samples, please share them.

How to change the default templates in Flex? Maybe even add your own? It's just so tedious to have to rearrange, replace and copy/paste everything for each new project, if you want to use swfobject for instance, or if you just prefer a different folder structure.

I have a flex component, a VBox, that has content inside it. Text components mainly.The VBox is holding a report that I want to be able to save to PDF. I am using AlivePdf to achieve this but the PDF produced is blank when viewed in Adobe reader (latest version).When I open the PDF in Notepad++ I can see that there is definitely content in there and the file appears to be structured correctly.This is the method I am using to generate the PDF:

My Flex 3 application uses a custom cursor and has to show a customized context menu when the user performs a right click. The problem is the customized menu is shown only when the default arrow cursor is shown. When I change it to the custom cursor, the standard context menu appears instead of the customized one.
Is there a way to have both custom cursor and customized context menu in a flash application?

I am using a custom skin on Flex's TabBar, and specifically the skin the controls ButtonBarButton. The width of the button is a variable size depending on the text it contains, and background of the button is an image that only displays on the selected states of the button.
The following is my MXML for the skin:

I tried wrapping the entire block in a Group tag, but to no avail. The invisible Rect does indeed fix the "machine gun" flickering that occurred when the mouse hovered over any edge of the button, but there is still a flicker on every mouse enter and mouse leave of each button.

I have used Flash to make skins, which I import and apply to Flex components.But how can I create a component in Flash, with properties and methods. And make it able to be added to the displayList in a Flex app?I installed the Flex component kit for flash. Created my component in flash (it extends MovieClip). Did Command->Convert to flex Component, did File->Published, which gave me a .swc, dropped the .sec file into my Flex project. Now when I create a new var the class "FlashFlexComponentTest" pops up in the new class hint box, so flex sees it. But afterwards I get the error: [code]I added the .swc via project build path -> add SWC.I no longer have a compile-time error but I am getting a runtime error:[code]

I'm trying to skin the Scroller in my application so that it looks like the example mentioned in [URL] This example was done in Flex 3 and images are set in CSS. I tried to create a skin for the component Scroller and saw that it uses VScrollBar and HScrollBar. I tried to put skins for these components. VScrollBar uses separate skins for the track, thumb, decrement/increment buttons. I tried to make some changes in the skin, but they were not reflected at all in the application. I just want to create a customized scroll bar in Flex 4 with custom thumbs.

I am trying to create a custom component in flex that consists of a Button, and a TileList directly below that button. On button click event the TileList should open/close. The component works fine, but when I add it to my main flex app, inside a VBox, it simply opens and closes within the VBox. Because the height of the VBox is much smaller than the custom component's TileList, it causes scrollbars. My issue with it is that it should behave like a ComboBox/Pull-down menu and go over the VBox, instead of going inside it. how to overlay the custom component, so it behaves like a ComboBox/Pull-down?

It is working well at runtime, bud I have troubles making it working at design-time. How can I make databinding work at the design time? If it is impossible, how should I code the label text assignments?

I know how to read xml and instantiate components, however my question is about being able to get the type of the component from the xml attribute and then creating an instance of that type.

I have a custom TextInput-based component for date and time with certain restrictions on what's considered "within range". But it's still fine to insert dates that are outside the range. When a user types in a date, on valueCommit, I'd like to be able to display a hovering notification to the user, to inform/warn them that the date is outside the accepted range.
I'm thinking of notifications ala the Validators, but I'd rather not use the Validator mechanism because it's really not validation, just notification. Something like a tooltip, but it will only appear if the user changed the value. Maybe an effect of some sort?

There are lots of examples of how to create skinnable components in AS3 using the new Spark component architecture, however I've yet to find any such examples using MXML.What I'm mainly referring to is defining the skin parts and skin states. It seems as though the SkinPart metadata is supposed to be associated with properties and as such can't be used in MXML, is this correct?

I have a component "child" which has a cancel button. Now this component is placed in a state called "newChildComp" I also have another component called "parent". In the parent component, i have a button that dispatches an event. Here is the event code:

so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?

I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

I have two components. One is called "InsideComp" and one is called "OutsideComp". OutsideComp has InsideComp as one piece of its component, and in my main MXML file, I have embedded an instance of OutsideComp. How do I access a public variable of InsideComp within my main MXML file?In Actionscript, I could just do something like:OutsideComp.InsideComp.valToChange = 5; But I dont know how to do it in MXML. When I extend this component, I can reference mnuSource (it compiles) but Runtime complains about the property not being accessible (error 1056).
How do you modify / declare component properties so they are actually available to other components?

I had the core of my site down for me, I believe in Flash 8 using AS2. I took over the site and attempted to learn everything that they did, so I could update it myself. The one thing that I can't figure out... is where they put the customized scrollbars they made for my site. There are some scrollPane components in the library, but I can't see where he put the custom scrollbars. The homepage link is here:The blue scrollbars are what I'm trying to find. When I add more content I want to be able to use the same scrollbars. If you need the FLA, I'll send it to you. I am pretty sure there is some default location that they're stored in though, and I'm just not seeing it

I need to add as many number of hyperlinks to a custom "pop-up". The properties for customised Pop-up are as follows:
A pop-up is a retangle shaped figure with BackgroundColour = #FFFFCC, Width=170 and Height= 275 respectively mentioned in Properties Window. Here, Pop-up is a MovieClip and its instance-name is"myPopup".
Now, i need to add text(which must act as hyperlinks, i.e., they must capture MouseEvent_CLICK event, should listen to the event and should produce response on clicking on the hyperlink) in vertical manner viz., the width,height and x-position should not change and only y-position for placing th text-field should change.
My code for creating a TextField with required width,height,x-pos and y-pos is as follows:

I'm building a customized clock at the moment. For seconds i'm using 12 movieclips with bars inside (fig1) For every second a bar lights up. I can get the number of "group" to pick and the number of "bar" to light up but i can't actually make them light up because I'm not sure how to actually select the group of bars according to the time.
My movieclips are called "group0", "group1" etc. and inside I made different states depending on how many bars light up (fig2) fig1 fig2 Here's my code:
