I'm getting an odd error from my composite canvas component: An ActionScript error has occurred:
[Code]...
It seems to be related to the fact that my composite component has a child and I'm trying to add one in the place I'm using the component. So how can I do this correctly? omponent code looks like this (EditableCanvas.mxml):
I'm trying componentize one of the pieces of UI in an AIR application that I'm developing in Flex. In this example, I want to display file information on a single line (which has an icon, some text/link and the size).
My code looks like this (component is called FileDisplay): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <mx:Canvas xmlns:mx="[URL]"><mx:Script> <![CDATA[ public function set iconType(source:String):void { this.ficon.source = source; [Code] .....
However, when I do this, I get an error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. This is because the child components of the FileDisplay are null (or at least they show up that way in the debugger). Am I supposed to be waiting for events indicating the child components were created? For now I can manually do everything in ActionScript in my main app (create a Canvas and add children to it) but how to separate the code more cleanly.
I'm currently working on a custom component which extends Canvas (let's call it SuperCanvas) ; it's basically a container that let you zoom & pan its contents. It would be too long to explain why, but I can't use scrollRect, so I was forced to declare a Canvas object (called innerCanvas)... inside my SuperCanvas (I know, not very nice =/) I would like to know if there's a proper way to "redirect" the creation of my component's children in this canvas.
I want to make a custom container, usable in MXML like: <local:MyContainer> <s:Label/> <s:Button/> ... </local:MyContainer>
But I'd like to be able to catch when the children are added so that I can control stuff like when & where they're added. I tried overriding addChild(), addChildAt(), addElement(), addElementAt(), (extending the Group class) but they only fire when you add elements specifically with those functions - the application launches and the label, button, etc, end up in MyContainer without calling these functions. How do I control the addition of sub-components via MXML?
Is there an easy way to make a parent container (eg Group) resize when it's children resize?
Below is a little example app. When I put the 200x200 'food' in the 'stomach' the stomach & it's containing 100x100 'body' should resize to contain the food.
...I would like to override whatever function that adds the children to the parent Group and add them to the child viewstack instead but I can't seem to find where the adding occurs. Breakpoints in addChild and addElement shows that they are not called during the add.
I am not an expert in flash, but I do work with AS and tweak Flash projects, though not having deep expertise in it. Currently I need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
I am trying to create a menu bar with the following items: File, Database, Navigate, Window. However, I am getting an error which I do not understand: Could not resolve <mx:XMLList> to a component implementation. Can anyone explain the error to me? My code is as follows:
Whats wrong with this Flex MXML code? I'm getting error messages (error lines marked with "X"). Code is very simple but I cannot find the error.Message both times: multiple initalisation values for standard property "text" of type "string" (translated from german)[code]
I'm trying to learn how to use custom events in Flex. I'm following Oliver Merk's tutorial found here: blog
The custom event works if I implement it using MXML in the main app. But, if I use actionscript, then I get error 1119: Access of possibly undefined property ADD_PRODUCT through a reference with static type Class.
I have a custom component made up of a selectable control (radio button)and a text input. I want to perform some logic in response to the change events from both of those controls, but after that I want anything that is registered on the composite component's change handler to have a change to handle the events as well. The problem is, when I re-dispatch the events the event target has changed to my custom component, losing the originating event's target.
In the event handler that receives change events from this component, I see that event.target is an instance of SpecifyRadioButton, not the TextInput or RadioButton, as I'd expect. How should I propagate the event to get what I want here?
Getting event [Event type="change" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2] from question0.tabSurvey.questionForm.questionContainer.Single94.VBox95.SpecifyRadioButton111
Again pulling my hair out due to some Flex/AS3 weirdness. The following code does not compile due to error 1120 - Access of undefined property AbstractWizardModel
From what Ive seen, most of the examples of using Javascript in Flex are designed for for the full desktop version (or for the browser) and not Flex mobile. For example using ExternalInterface in a Flex mobile project gives the error: Error: Error #2067: The ExternalInterface is not available in this container. ExternalInterface requires Internet Explorer ActiveX, Firefox, Mozilla 1.7.5 and greater, or other browsers that support NPRuntime. Is it possible to call Javascript (such as the Google Maps Javascript API) in a Flex mobile project?
I have function init, which runs on the creationComplete of the application. The init calls get_login_share_object funtion, in which objects are created, which are null.
Now my problem is that, I get a null object reference error on the Alert in "init()". How can I avoid that. Is it possible that I can have a check to see, if the objects are null the program should just skip reading the objects.
private function init():void { var stored_credentials:Object = get_login_share_object();
Does MXML get compiled down to as3 and then converted to flash bytecode? Also, is there a significant performance penalty to compiling mxml vs compiling as3?
I am working on a custom Flex 4 component which is an aggregation of two existing flex components. I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. For instance I might want to adjust the font color or style for the label and text input. toy component which aggregates both a label and a text input:
the script i wrote is working fine. but the script attached to the flash player which i have no control over is throwing a script error (im using IE8).how can i fix this? if i run it locally there is no error.
I've got a component written for my app by a third party developer and am trying to integrate it, but I've found a bug that seems like it's either a compiler bug, or there's something with how Flex and static variables work that I wasn't aware of.Basically, I have this:
public class ModeChangeController { public static const DISPLAY_MODE:String = "DisplayMode"; }[code]...
If I use //V2 (i.e. comment out V1), a bug occurs at the startup of the application (some TextFields are uneditable and contains no text), but with //V1 and not V2, it works fine. If I comment out both, that also works fine (I don't get the TextField bug).It took me a while to figure out that it was that static const String that was causing the issue, but I'm still not sure why or if there's something I can do about it except for just moving the DISPLAY_MODE to Events (which is what I've done at the moment, but it's not a particularly nice solution). There are no errors in the log. The order of the includes in my BorderContainer code doesn't matter. I've googled for "as3/flex static initialization order" but haven't found anything.
Clarification: showInitialView() never gets called. It doesn't get there before the other bug shows up. Just having the V2 line there causes the problem.
Update: I've fixed my problem with the TextInput strings not showing: Turns out that adding the component caused the Tahoma font to not show up. However, setting the font-weight to bold fixed that problem, or switching to Arial. With that said, the original question still stands, because when I ran it without V2, it found Tahoma with normal font-weight.
I am trying to override a Button class, i have a few properties which i wish directly initialise with the mxml description of the component, like :[code]which function is triggered ( in order to override it ) when all properties with mxml description is fully initialised with their values ?
to point out some good tutorials on creating applications in flex that are don't have UI's?Actually, it looks like all I really need to know is how to call afunction upon initialization of the flash object. I tried the creationComplete attribute, but it doesn't work in browser.
What I'd like to do: create an MXML component with some children, then extend it via MXML to create a new component with more children, without losing the original set.In other words
create a component bc.mxml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:BorderContainer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
Once you load an actionscript page from scratch (in my case loading XML data from a file, initializing various other elements in a fairly time consuming way) if you navigate away from that page and then return to it, (via the browser 'back' key for example) is their a way to forego the previous initialization and just immediately bring up the previous Actionscript page in its fully initialized state.
I am loading a component which makes a HTTPService call to get data that will then be used to set certain variables in the component. I make the HTTPService call in an init() function (for the initialization event) and then set the variables according to the data received in the HTTPService result handler. However, the variables are still null at both the initialize stage and at the creationComplete stage. If I try and read the variables in a creationComp() function (for the creationComplete event), those variables are still null. Is this correct?
I guess I don't understand the flex initialization cycle very well. When are those variables actually set and available to be used? I need to manipulate those variables automatically after the component loads. Is there an event that comes after creationComplete that is appropriate or some other way to approach this? I am using Flex 3.
