I've created a custom component based on Image component. I want to teach it to respond to change of binded variable. E.g. if main class has a variable balance, I want the component to change image in case balance = 100 one image, in case balance = 50 to another.[code]...

Where the findFriendsPaginationElement is inside the model locator:

Inside the custom component I have button that uses a property of findFriendsPaginationElement object:

But I get a warning from Flex that the binding wouldn't work that way and it doesn't. It works the first time I load up the component but every time I change findFriendsPaginationElement it doesn't reflect on the component. Do you know how I can go about doing this? (making changing a value in the binding variable changes the status of an element inside a component?)
I have a component where I expose the property 'questions' with the following code:

In this component, I use commitProperties() to implement my logic.
I use Cairngorm and the 'questions' is in the model and hence it's defined as a source for data binding.
When the 'questions' ArrayCollection's size changes elsewhere in the application, it is not invoking the setter method in the component that is destination for the data binding.
I have two components. One is called "InsideComp" and one is called "OutsideComp". OutsideComp has InsideComp as one piece of its component, and in my main MXML file, I have embedded an instance of OutsideComp. How do I access a public variable of InsideComp within my main MXML file?In Actionscript, I could just do something like:OutsideComp.InsideComp.valToChange = 5; But I dont know how to do it in MXML. I know this is probably an easy question.

when I test I get "type was not found or is not a compile time constant:AutoLayoutEvent". I can do all sorts of processes like changing flv being played, moving it around etc.
From one main movie, I'm calling a movie, put it into a target (everything goes fine here), then when I call the movie everithing goes fine but the elements inside the movie don't respond I'll tell you how it works. The loaded movie, has a movie clip that plays a few others clips in the main time line. When this movie get loaded into the main movie I mentioned above these few clips don't work, I see the movie getting loaded but these few clips don't work.

If user change the value of the TextInput, then click refresh button to retrieve the data model from backend again, the GUI value will not change back. Re-binding not happen, Since the value of data model not changed, no propertyChanged event fired.In this case, I must Programmatically set the model value to the GUI after data refreshing done.I know bi-directional binding can solve this problem(when user change value on GUI, set the new value to data model immediately). But sometimes I cannot use bi-directional binding, for example, the data model is a int, but user input a non-int value, I cannot set the value to data model. So the value in data model do not change, when refresh data, rebinding still not happen.
This will make the data binding useless. How to resolve this?I put pseudo-code here for now, I will put real code later:1. retrieve a data model from server, via blazeds or something else.2. bind the model to a TextInput on GUI.3. user change the TextInput text.4. User click a refresh button, triger retrieve the model value again.5. Now since the model value do not change, no PropertyChanged event fired.6. GUI value still is the user's input, not the value from the model. can clear the model value before set the velue back, make re-binding happen.(but sometimes you do not know how to clean the model value, take int for example, you may do not know the original value and happen set the same value). I am creating a custom component in Flex with extends the BorderContainer class, and I would like to be able to place additional content within the tagset when I use it in my main application, like this:

This works just fine, except that my component definition had some additional things inside of it, such as a <s:Label/> and styling, which is replaced by the content within the tagset above when I go to use it.
If I do not put anything within the tagset, the content that was originally in the component is not replaced.
Is there a way that I can simply append additional content inside of the component when I go to use it, instead of it being replaced each time?
How do I say an MXML component is inside some package? Well, it's in a different folder... I know how to do it ActionScript... But when I do in MXML I don't declare the package explicitly because I don't know how, and when I call it to my application, it states that The prefix "package" for element "package:Component" is not bound.
View 2 RepliesI've developed a component which is a combination of a few items (canvas, labels, etc...) but when I try to bind it to a variable such as: {stationXML.getItemAt(1).AAA.@value}, it doesnt work. Before I combined all the items in a component, they were all in the main MXML file at which time they worked. Not sure if it matters, but the "stationXML" arraycollection variable is declared inside the file "Station.as".

1). Copy and paste multiple-line texts.
2). Write long and scroll the texts.
I also found another working example at: [URL]. (The autocomplete prompt appears when you press ctrl+space right at the caret's position). But an email from its author says he uses monotype fonts to calculate individual character's location. Is there a way to get multi-line input from a textfield?

why I can't get the width of a Sprite when it has components in it.
For example

In MXML, there is a Button class which you can instantiate like so:

But what if you wanted to dynamically build this in AS3 and add it to the Flex app dynamically, without the use of components (just AS3) and then modify Flex's styles, for example, here you access the Button's properties and set them:

But how would you go about changing the Style, for example:

I'm sort of starting to lean towards making a flex component in MXMLand than just making it visible true/false, but I like the fact that i create an object in AS3 and then destroy it when I don't need it anymore, than create it again once needed.
I currently use: Flexglobals.toplevelapplication.component1.compnent2.currentState = 'something';is there a better way of doing do? Can I bind the state of a components to variable in my model?

I don't know if this is too difficult or too easy. My custom component is trying to listen to the main application's state changes using StateChangeEvent.CURRENT_STATE_CHANGE, but it's reporting its own state changes.

I have tried this canvas.getChildAt(0) Which seems to give me the Image, but I can not figure out how to get the bitmap data. canvas.getChildAt(0).bitmapData; gives me a compile error "... undefined property" how ot get the bitmap data so I can use it in my new Image component?
I have a DataGrid component that I would like to update every 5 seconds. As rows are being added to this DataGrid I noticed that every update causes it to reset the scroll bar position to the top. How can I manage to keep the scroll bar at its previous position?
