Flex :: Set Spark Element's MaxHeight To 100% Of Container's

I have a list component with a (row oriented) tile layout in a group that sits in the main Application. I want the list to be centred vertically when there are not enough items in to fill the application window height, so verticalCenter="0". However, when there are more items than can fit vertically on screen, the list expands beyond the application window height and the scrollbar doesn't kick in. I can remedy this if setting the list height to 100%, but that means it's not vertically centred when it contains less items. The ideal solution would be maxHeight="100%", but of course maxHeight doesn't work with percentages. How would I go about achieving this behaviour?

I found this example [URL].. which works great but only if you have the focussable elements in a VGroup.
However I have a Form inside the VGroup which means that the focussable elements are in FormItems of the Form. The Form can't be added directly into the Scroller and doesn't have a layout property.
I could use form.getElementIndex(formItem) and then do some math using the formItem y position but that's very ugly. Anyone have an idea how to get this working in a clean way like the above example?

This is what what my screen looks like:
It is composed like this :
First container <s:HGroup>(900 X 100)--top black area
Second container <s:Group> (900 X 475)--middle white area
Third container <s:HGroup>--(900 X 100)--bottom black area
If the project were done with Flex 3, the middle area would be an <mx:Canvas>.
Now suppose I have one BorderContainer(125 X 475) and name it middleContainerChild. It is located on the right side of the middle area. When I set its y postion to -middleContainerChild.height, it should be located at y = -475, outside of the container's body. And as you can see in the image above, it has been placed there.
But other than with <mx:Canvas>, the image still shows, even though it is no longer within the <s:Group>s body, and it is rendered "on top" of the <s:HGroup>.

If I use <mx:Canvas>, it is hidden away properly, but if I use a Spark container (not only a group, but any Spark container), it remains visible.

The answer to my question is possibly easy, yet I haven't found an example of solving it in the web, nor have I found a solution reading ActionScript reference. My problem is the following: I have a big UIComponent derivate element inside a Scroller (spark.components.Scroller) window. The Scroller class is great because when my canvas element, that changes size dynamically, exceeds its boundaries, scrollbars appear automatically and handle scrolling of my UIComponent inside it. However, I'd like not just to be able to Scroll using these automatically appeared scroll bars, but also by using a pan tool that I will myself implement (similar to the hand tool in Adobe software, for example). The thing is that I am not able to modify correctly the element's position inside the Scroller window.
I tried, as a first approach, accessing to my elements' 'x' and 'y' properties, however, when changing them, I dont get the resulkts wanted. The code for it is the following (in which, for symplifying reasons, I used a text label as my 'inside' element, and two buttons as an external scroll controller, instead of a hand tool)

Is it able to create a SWF with for example 800x650px and to define some 'containers' within it for other SWF-files? I want to create a container for navigation at the right and when clicking on a navi element,changing the content of anorher container availalble, perhaps like'headAnimation'.
Is it able to change attributes of an included 'container'with a SWF when clicking an element within another SWF placed in a
'container'? Perhaps I have an 'container' with 'navigation.swf' within. When clicking on an elemnt .I want to start a function that fades in/out another'container'. Am I able to create a function that works for all 'containers'? In a Flex Mobile project I have a simple itemRenderer where I'm trying to create an "bubble" texting effect, similar to ichat or iphone (just so you get what im going for). But if the text is longer than the screen it runs off, rather than just going down a line.
If I set Group thats holding the rectangle(to create the bubble effect) and the label to 100% it works and keeps it from exceeding the list containers bounds, BUT the group is always at 100% and looks bad, I'm trying to keep the "bubble" JUST AROUND the text.
Anyway so, at the top of my itemRenderer I tried specifying:

xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" width="100%" height="100%">
And here's my layout I figured since msg_container has a width of 100% I was hoping bubble_lable_group would just not exceed that but...it doesnt...it just runs off. I tried setting a max width but that does not allow you to input percents. And just to say it 1 more time. I know if i set bubble_lable_group width to 100% it works, and keeps it from going off the edge, but then the rectangle "bubble" stretches all the way across and just looks bad.

I have a loop that goes through data from a book and displays it. The book is not consistent in it's layout so I am trying to display it in two different ways. First way(works fine) is to load the text from that section in to a panel and display it. The second way is to create a new panel (panel creates fine) and then add collapsable panels(nested) to that panel. Here is the code from the else loop.

The error I get is: ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property panel4.4 not found on components.readTest and there is no default value.
I have tried setting the "name" property instead of the "id" property.

I am creating an flex Air project,so mxml file will run. I have circles in one Big circle at one side and will be same on other side.
Now how to drag any circle from any Big circle to other side. Or it could be like any two container having circles, then how to drag and drop circle?
For one circle i am able to do drag and drop.But I want one Big circle on left hand side and one big circle on right hand side .And small circles with class names will be in these big circles.Now i want to drag and drop those small circles in big circles.Big cicles should not move. I'm currently working on a custom component which extends Canvas (let's call it SuperCanvas) ; it's basically a container that let you zoom & pan its contents. It would be too long to explain why, but I can't use scrollRect, so I was forced to declare a Canvas object (called innerCanvas)... inside my SuperCanvas (I know, not very nice =/) I would like to know if there's a proper way to "redirect" the creation of my component's children in this canvas.

I am working on a drag and drop feature for the sparkScroller. This is sort of how my layout looks:

<mx:Box id="dummyRow" visible="false" />
<s:View id="touchView" visible="false" />
</mx:Canvas>
So when you hold your finger over a row in the items Scroller for more than a 30 seconds, the touchView becomes visible so does the dummyRow. The dummyRow gets populated to look like the row which you held your finger over.
So the touchView has the event handlers for moving your fingers and places the dummyRow where your finger is. The problem I am having is even though the touchView is reacting to my move events, the scroller still keeps reacting to my move events as well even though it's a sub layer. Because I started on the scroller it still keeps track!
How can I remove focus / tracking from the scroller?

I have a spark skinnable component which contains a datagroup with images. The datagroup is scrolled by hovering the mouse over it. Everything works fine except one thing: after I change the datagroup provider, I need to scroll down automatically. The problem is the images are not loaded immediately after I set the provider so (contentHeight - height) does not yet represent the actual maximum scrolling position. Is there an easy way of telling the datagroup to scroll down as its content loads? Because the workaround seems to be not so straightforward. I have created a style in which i am defining a font family.When i apply this style to label it reflects the font were as there is no change when it is applied to a spark button.I Tried various way to Apply font style but it doesn't work.Other properties work fine except font family. Even i tried creating skin class and set the font family style of label in it. While previewing the skin i can see the changes but when i apply it to buttonApproach 1

Anyone missed the old simple method for skinning a simple button?

The problem im having is that, this method of creating a simple button with skin is being phased out : Infact it is no longer supported in flex 4.5 mobile projects.
So the question: Is there a simple way to perform this, with spark buttons (which is suppose to be the new way to go). As simple as possible.
Basically i only need a button with 2 images : down/over & up. And i want to keep the code as simple as possible : The new skinning methods, seems to really adds way too much lines for something that used to be as simple as the example above.

I know that there is no such function as getElementByName in Flex but I also now that you can do this["object_id"] to get the element of the application u're in.What about getting an element inside another element?I've tried making element["id"] ? But in my try-catch it always runs the "catch" part..how do I get an element inside another element just having it's id in dynamically created string form?

Flex 4.5+ is I guess everyone is working on nowadays so I asked this question since I haven't yet find working both spark datagrid and the mx printdatagrid components together.
What I'm trying to achieve is to print all the data inside my spark datagrid. So when I do my research, we use the PrintJob or the FlexPrintJob classes.It works fine but when I need to print multiple pages since the data on my spark datagrid is quite long, I can't somehow find a way how to do it.The print output is only upto where the height of my spark datagrid.So in my research, they somehow managed it to use the mx:PrintDataGrid component.But sad to say, they did it with an mx:DataGrid also.how to use the mx:PrintDataGrid along with s:DataGrid.

I have flash where there is a link for song download. And, at the bottom of the flash I've a count, loaded thorugh flash vars which should increment everytime donload button is hit. Please let me know what approach should i take to do that. can i call a Java method on donload button which will insert a row in the table and and then get the count and render it to the count variable in my flash?

I have been able to disable tabs in a tab bar using the following tutorial.

This only works for mx tabbar. Does anyone know how to do this for a spark tabbar? I prefer the lnf of the spark one. When I try it with a spark tab bar it just disables the viewstack of the tab and not the actual tab. An alternative solution may just be to make the mx tab bar look like a spark toolbar with the rounded edges.

I've built a rather robust tooltip class recently that attaches and draws a single tooltip sprite to the root, then uses MOUSE_OVER to detect when it is over a tooltippable object, and shows the appropriate tooltip text. At the moment, I'm ensuring that any elements in my application which wants to take advantage of showing tooltips implement the ITooltippable interface, and expose a public getter, get tooltip().

Basically I have 14 text boxes, each box draws its content from an external txt file. Next to each text box is a button. I create an HBox, fill it with a grid of buttons, and set the scroll policy. When I resize the window, the stage changes size, and so does the HBox ... to a point. Once it reaches the height of the Grid it contains, it stops shrinking, like it has a "min-height". This ruins the scrollbar that I'm trying to establish in this case.
I've set the height to 100%, shouldn't it always take the height of the stage, it's parent?[code]....
