Apr 5, 2011I'm trying to learn AS3 the hard way (i.e. just barrelling on into it), and I'm a bit stuck on this form that I'm putting together. Aside from the normal headaches associated with form building in Flash, I've got a series of conditional contents that I need to work out.Basically, it's a no-brains-required error reporting form, and it's covering three sites, with several buildings, and a couple of thousand computers. What I want to do is to limit the amount of selectable machines available as more fields are filled out in this form: say I chose site 1, I only want machines that are actually on site one to be available. Would it make more sense for this to be done at the server end, or is there a way of getting the combo boxes to check to see whether conditions have been met prior to displaying contents?

Jun 30, 2011When I get a collection back from the service tier, I create an ArrayCollection and apply a sort. When I add an item to the collection later on, the sort is still in place? It seems to be the case. I thought I was only sorting it once, not applying a sort that will stick??Here is the method for adding an item:

Nov 8, 2010I'm trying to set a specific list item in a mx combobox to have a custom item renderer, the problem is that I cannot do this via mxml, it needs to be done via actionscript at a later stage, eg: combobox gets created, combobox gets populated, user does other tasks, combobox needs to set one or more items in the combobox to have icons (via item renderer)..
I can do this via the onChange event, but it only applies the icon when the combobox is opened and there is a slight delay so you can see the icon being added.

Normally, I'd just like to sort the array alphabetically using the name field, which is easy enough using the following code. However, I'd like to create a radio button called 'loadedRadioButton' and when it's click on, I'd like to sort the array on the loaded value first(any items with loaded=true should be at the top, sorted alphabetically), then afterwards, any other items with loaded=false, sorted alphabetically should follow afterwards, how can I do it?

May 11, 2011Here are the strings this array can contain (in the correct order):
'recipients,' 'columnSelector,' 'headerImageLink,' 'title,' 'mainText,' 'text,' 'bodyImage'
Now, to sort them, I obviously don't want to do something like this:
if( a == 'columnSelector' && b == 'headerImageLink' ) return -1;
else if( a == 'columnSelector' && b == 'title' ) return -1;
else if( a == 'columnSelector' && b == 'mainText' ) return -1;
So that brings up an interesting thing. I know you can optimize the above some using something like this:
if( a == 'columnSelector' || a == 'bodyImage' ) return -1;
This would get the last two, but lately I have just wanted community input on issues I have had in the past. So the question is, what is the best way to write a custom sort, using a relatively random order (not alphabetical, etc)?
Actionscript 3.0 :: Send HTML Form Contents And Flat-file Contents To Flash?
Oct 20, 2010I have built a simple Flash application that will be presented using a projector, the application will show messages in the form of questions that will come from a simple flat-file text file or XML file.
In addition to this I would also like to be able to add my own messages using a simple HTML form.
I've been looking around the web for some resources, but have been struggling to find what I am looking for. The basic idea is that the flash application will loop through these different messages from the XML, but then when a user types in a message that will also appear within these messages. Think of it as a sort of dynamic tag cloud.
Edit Contents - Delete Contents Of The Layer And Then Add The New Clip?
Oct 12, 2009I'm customizing an xml flash website and while I can handle all the html and xml well enough, but in Flash, I have no clue how to:
Now go on the stage, and delete the contents of the last layer(background & pattern). Here, add from the library, the square movieclip, and name it mcBackColor(see attached image).And then to add your swf background in the "background & pattern" layer from the main.fla file.
I can change the name, but don't know how to delete just the contents of the layer and then add the new clip.I've made a slideshow before and that's all I can do.

Aug 3, 2009After applying a numeric sort to my dataprovider(Array Collection), I can not reorder the items via a tilelist. Do I need to remove the sort from the arrayCollection. If so, is it just a case of setting collection.sort = null ?

Mar 24, 2011I am sorting xmllist profilexml. In the list dates and months are sorted using SortField. It is sorting up to September month. After that Oct, Nov, and Dec are coming and displaying on the top in the datagrid.

When I view the grid with the dataset I'm working with, and click the header of the column I wish to sort on, everything works perfectly. It sorts it hierarchically exactly how I would expect it to.What I want to do now is have the grid already be sorted when it is shown to the user. Is there a way to do this programatically? I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this, and clearly it's possible since the AdvancedDataGrid has this built in.[code]This appears to do something as far as sorting goes, but it doesn't sort it in the same way as clicking the column header. "startDate" is a property of an object in theDataSource by the way.

Aug 27, 2009Using Flex 3.2, I have a object which extends a TitleWindow. In this TitleWindow I have an AdvancedDataGrid.
On creation of this object, I pass it 2 lists, one full of data to display, and the other I pass an array of column definitions. This allows me to, at runtime, create the correct columns and define the correct display attributes for each column (e.g. booleans will show up as checkboxes, and dates are formatted in a specific format (coming in from an XML feed in a variety of STRING formats where nulls are a possibility)
The problem is that the default sort, being based on string, doesn't work 100% of the time and even when the format is one that would be sorted nicely, it fails when nulls are involved.
The above problem would be easily solved using a sortCompareFunction, but the fact is when you set the sortCompareFunction of the column, it seems to require you to hardcode in the column name into the function.

Apr 9, 2010Currently when sorting in a flex grid, the sort arrow that shows whether the column is sorted ascending or descending is right aligned to the column. Is there anyway to change the position of the sort arrow, such as applying padding?

Apr 26, 2010I am doing this simple project using Flex 4 SDK and I got stuck with this simple problem: I have turned sortable property for AdvancedDataGridColumn to false, but the column header is still rendered as:
As You can see, my label for this header is "06", but the column header is divided and it keeps the place for sort arrow.
How can I change this? I would like my column header to contain only my label.
