ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - Conditional Contents In A ComboBox?
Apr 5, 2011
I'm trying to learn AS3 the hard way (i.e. just barrelling on into it), and I'm a bit stuck on this form that I'm putting together. Aside from the normal headaches associated with form building in Flash, I've got a series of conditional contents that I need to work out.Basically, it's a no-brains-required error reporting form, and it's covering three sites, with several buildings, and a couple of thousand computers. What I want to do is to limit the amount of selectable machines available as more fields are filled out in this form: say I chose site 1, I only want machines that are actually on site one to be available. Would it make more sense for this to be done at the server end, or is there a way of getting the combo boxes to check to see whether conditions have been met prior to displaying contents?
But when the contents of someArrayCollection change, it leaves the combo box too small:How can I trick the combo box into automatically resizing to fit the label of the largest item?
I have built a simple Flash application that will be presented using a projector, the application will show messages in the form of questions that will come from a simple flat-file text file or XML file.
In addition to this I would also like to be able to add my own messages using a simple HTML form.
I've been looking around the web for some resources, but have been struggling to find what I am looking for. The basic idea is that the flash application will loop through these different messages from the XML, but then when a user types in a message that will also appear within these messages. Think of it as a sort of dynamic tag cloud.
I'm customizing an xml flash website and while I can handle all the html and xml well enough, but in Flash, I have no clue how to: Now go on the stage, and delete the contents of the last layer(background & pattern). Here, add from the library, the square movieclip, and name it mcBackColor(see attached image). And then to add your swf background in the "background & pattern" layer from the main.fla file.
I can change the name, but don't know how to delete just the contents of the layer and then add the new clip.I've made a slideshow before and that's all I can do.
When use the full path name and the identifier of a movie clip, my conditional statement works fine. However, when I swap the identifier out with "this", it no longer works. This script is contained within the movie clip I am trying to reference. I have found that, "this" works fine by itself on the timeline. It just stops working when I place it within a conditional statement.
Here is my script: function functionOne() { randomX = 550*Math.random(); randomY = 400*Math.random(); } functionOneInterval = setInterval(functionOne, 1000); function functionTwo() { [Code] .....
The reason I am trying to use "this" instead of the identifier name is because the movie clip it is referencing will be duplicated. This script here generates a random destination point for an enemy spaceship and tells it to constantly move to the changing points. This script is contained within the enemy spaceship movieclip, and I am planning on duplicating several of them at once.
I have a Flex client that loads data from a server to display a chart. This data may change, so the client regularly repeats the request. Since the result may require some work to retrieve, I'm going to have the server detect if the result has changed, and issue a 304 status if it hasn't.I haven't seen any headers in the Flash Player's requests which would indicate that it's already handling conditional GETs. Also, the HTTPService API doesn't seem to provide anything, either. Does that mean, Flash can't do this, or how can I implement this myself?
With regards to cookies, which aren't supported in Flash, I have heard the suggestion to build my own HTTP client on top of the Socket class. This might solve this issue, too, but frankly, I'm really not keen on doing that.As an alternative, I could just cache the result page and send it again, but so far, the API tries to utilize semantics that are already built into HTTP, and I'd like to keep it that way.
I'm using Flash CS3 and want to create a custom ComboBox. I've followed the steps outlined in "Editing component skins in a new document" (http:/[url]...), but every time I get to the step where I drag the ComboBox Assets folder from the HaloTheme.fla library into my library, if I test movie at that point my combobox has become an unclickable white rectangle with no label, button or anything.
I'm trying to set a specific list item in a mx combobox to have a custom item renderer, the problem is that I cannot do this via mxml, it needs to be done via actionscript at a later stage, eg: combobox gets created, combobox gets populated, user does other tasks, combobox needs to set one or more items in the combobox to have icons (via item renderer)..
I can do this via the onChange event, but it only applies the icon when the combobox is opened and there is a slight delay so you can see the icon being added.

Both of my ComboBoxes has the same identifier.I could not change the identifier through the properties tab because it is greyed out.
I can find absolutely nothing when I search for an answer. I have a conditional comment in my html to only display a flash file when the browser is IE. And it works great, except that the conditional comment is displaying in my browser! [URL] to see the error (it only shows in IE). Could it be because I haven't declared the page as an html4 page? The only way I can get the comments to go away is if I use this syntax: <!--<![if lt IE10]><!-->my code<!--<![endif]--> . When I do this, of course my flash file shows underneath my alternate content on other browsers.
What im trying to do is to keep the background image aligned to the top left but never scale below a certain pixel height or width. Here is an example of what im going for.
I want to trigger an event when 4 buttons are being set to visible(originally set to ._visible=false at the beginning of the movie) say, the instance names of the buttons are "a","b","c",and "d", and their visibility is triggered by other events. When all of them are triggered/being set to visible, I want a movieclip to play (say, the name of the movieclip is "animation") I tried using the if statement and came up with the following code:
Is there a way to compile SWC files in different targets (Debug vs. Release) similarly how you can compile a SWF file with the AS3 Conditional Compiler constants?
This link shows how SWF files can be compiled with predefined compiler constants:[URL]..
But I need to know how to achieve this with SWC files instead.
Note: I'm using FlashDevelop (Windows 7) to create the SWC (if that's any help to refine the answer).
i want to know how did the creator of otradesign accomplish the effect in his site like the menu and the main contents change size and the menu position according to the size of main contents.
I have a webpage containing 2 DIV containers hidden using CSS. The site has a Flash Movie embedded. I want to render the content of these hidden DIV containers from within the Flash movie.I'm using CS4?
HTML <div id="sectionone">content</div> <div id="sectiontwo">content</div>
CSS hide sectionone div and sectiontwo div
FLASH Display sectionone within flash movie when requested
I am having problem in loading flash contents. The browser does not load flash content and when i right clic the content area, i receive "Movie not loaded" in the menu.
I want to get some images from a flash webpage and I got the .swf files. Is there a way to open the .swf and grab the contents of that file. I am not asking how to play the file or view the file. I actually want to open up the file and view its contents, if possible. I don't know anything about flash and tried searching already. It probably isn't possible since i didn't find any answers via search, but I wanted to try here first.
I have a textinput component on my stage with an instance name of "myTxt" I would like to add some left padding to the contents of this textfield. I've tried:
myTxt.setStyle("textPadding", 5); But it adds top (and I assume bottom and right) padding in addition to the left padding. What is the best way to simply add left padding to the textfield's contents?
I have a SFW embedded in a PHP page. There is also a div on the page with id="target".I want to access the content of that div (ie: the characters inside it) and hold them as a String variable in AS3. How can I do this?My attempt so far
import flash.external.ExternalInterface; var myDivContent = ExternalInterface.call("function(){ return document.GetElementById('target');}");
I want to get a flash game that loads the contents of the game. When i download the swf, it's just the loader so it's useless. I need the full contents.
I have an MovieClip that loads a slideshow (imagerotator to be exact). I'm using AS2 loadMovie to achieve this. The images in the slideshow appear way oversized, extending the width of the entire stage. How to I constrain the size of the slideshow/MovieClip contents? All the images are going to be the same pixel dimensions so it doesn't have to be anything fancy.
A DisplayObjectContainer's dimensions change based on its contents.
That can be a LOT of contents, many of them with visible = false or masked, thus making them hidden. Is there a way to get only the visible contents of a DisplayObjectContainer similar to a TextField has the textHeight property, which gives you the exact dimension of what you see on-screen.
I have added some movie clips to the stage using addChild method on Some Mouse Events. Now on an event say Mouse Double Click I want to clean the stage.I checked the Stage class from reference it does not have any method called clear.Neither I have stored the references of the objects, so that i can clear them using removeChild()
I want to share some flash file hosted in my website to Facebook stream, as far I knew my domain should be whitelisted by Facebook but unfortunately I don't know who can I do that. RL...
How can we swap the contents of textfields in flash. We have a form and we filled it up , be we see that we mixed few fields and with buttons next to text fields we want to move the contebt of field number 4 to field number 1
