I am setting up a FlexBuilder build under Hudson/Jenkins on a Linux system. I want to execute our unit tests, but do it without using the standard GUI-based test runner.
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a general code library for ActionScript 3.0 called as3lib which includes several extensions to the core API and some useful functions. I've written several unit tests (using FlexUnit) to make sure everything is working correctly.
What is the best way to organize these tests in the library? Currently, I have all my code in src/ and my tests in test/ but I've set up a secondary Flex project to run the unit tests. I am also manually adding and removing the test files from the library when I want to run the tests.
Preferably one where the compiled library doesn't include the test files but I don't need two separate projects to test them.
What are the steps to change your default suite when running unit tests in Flash Builder 4 with PureMVC?

What is the best way to write a test since I don't know what the array returned by getValues method will contain? I have a Flex web app that communicates with a Java back-end via BlazeDS. The Flex client is composed of a flex-client module, which holds the views and presentation models and a separate flex-service module which holds the models (value objects) and service objects.
I am in the process of writing asynchronous integration tests for the flex-service module's RemoteObjects using FlexUnit4. In some of the tests, I modify the test data and query it back to see if everything works (a technique shown here: [url]...
How do I go about resetting the database to a known state before each FlexUnit4 test method (or test method chain)? In my Java server integration tests, I did this via a combination of DBUnit and Spring Test's transactions -- which rollback after each test method. But these Flexunit integration span multiple requests and thus multiple transactions.
I'd like to be able to write a .swf file that is runnable as a command line app. In other words, I would be able to create actionscript classes which can interact with stdin and stdout, and could then execute that .swf directly in the command line. I suspect that this isn't really possible. Can anyone confirm that? EDIT: A couple of the answers pointed out that using Flash for command line work probably isn't the best choice. I wholeheartedly agree in most situations. The reason I am asking about this is because I want to do some AS3 code generation, and reflecting on AS3 classes within the runtime would be easier than parsing the code or walking the intermediary XML that asdoc produces. I'm doing the XML approach now in Ruby, but would love to have a cleaner solution!

I know thats not the intended use of the framework, but I have a lot of utility code written in as3, and I have a need to programatically run some utility functions from another app (not flash). View 14 RepliesI understand that in Flex builder we can right click on a CSS file and choose 'compile to swf' and our CSS SWFs will automatically be compiled along with the main app.Is possible to compile the CSS file only (not with the main app) from the command line?Give clients a Flex CSS file to hand edit.Allow them to upload the file via a CMS.Trigger a server process to run the compiler from the command line, outputting the compiled SWF to the appropriate server path.This would of course be a whole lot simpler if Flex properly supported text-based CSS files (without requiring manually applying styles using AS3).

I'm interested in learning just enough Flash/Flex to do things that I can't do from HTML and JavaScript alone - play sound files and video, use multiple file upload things, perform cross-domain Ajax requests using the crossdomain.xml file etc. As such, I don't really want to learn (or pay for) the Flex IDE. I'm not much of an IDE guy in any case.
The problem is, most of the tutorials I've found talk about the IDE. I've figured out how to compile .mxml files at the command line using bin/mxmlc - now I just need to learn MXML, ActionScript and the various APIs! What are the best resources for learning these? I'm fine with buying a book, I just don't want to shell out for the API itself.

I am trying to draw a continuous curved line in flash. There are many methods but none of the ones I have found so far quite fit my requirements. First of all, I want to use the flash graphic api's curveTo() method. I DO NOT want to simulate a curve with hundreds of calls to lineTo() per curved line segment. It is my experience and understanding that line segments are processor heavy. Flash's quadratic bezier curve should take less CPU power. [code]...
View 3 RepliesI am trying to implement contour lines in ActionScript using Conrec. I have looked at both the java and javascript implementation and am still stuck.URL...Conrec will take grid data and assemble continuous contour lines. The problem is that it does not necessarily draw those lines in a continuous fashion. For example, it will draw A->B and then C->B and then C->D instead of A, B, C, D, etc.The javascript implementation seems to be accounting for this and serializing the instructions into an array of draw points. Which is what I too want to accomplish in the end. That is it takes the instructions from the core Conrec logic (eg: A->B, C->B, C->D, etc) and organizes it into an A, B, C, D series. I think it will also return the series as a multi-dimensional array to accommodate broken lines (eg: [[A, B, C, D], [E, F, G]]). This last functionality is what I need to do in Actionscript.This last part is where I am stuck. Ignore Conrec for now (I have given up on finding an Actionscript implementation), how can I organize these instructions into a collection of serial points? When Conrec gives me "draw point from X->Y" how can I first check if X or Y are already in a series and append either X or Y (whichever is not in the series) into the series? AND if neither are in the series, start a NEW series with X, Y as the starting set. Then check subsequent instructions against all existing series and connect series if they now start and stop on the same point? Also, I need to be able to allow for a series to close itself (eg: A, B, C, A) -- a loop (is that even possible?!).
I'm not sure if there is a technical term for what I want to do beyond "concatenation". I also hope someone out there has done this with Conrec and can give me some pointers.In the meantime, I am going to continue to plug away at this and see if I can come up with something but I am not confident in my abilities.If you know another way to draw contour lines from grid data, I am open to alternatives.
