Draw A Continuous Curved Line From 3 Given Points At A Time?

May 10, 2011

I am trying to draw a continuous curved line in flash. There are many methods but none of the ones I have found so far quite fit my requirements. First of all, I want to use the flash graphic api's curveTo() method. I DO NOT want to simulate a curve with hundreds of calls to lineTo() per curved line segment. It is my experience and understanding that line segments are processor heavy. Flash's quadratic bezier curve should take less CPU power. [code]...

Guide Layers AS2 led me to tweening AS3 class but the beginning and end objects weren't right. Am I in the wrong place? This seemed somewhat straightforward but perhaps I'm searching for the wrong keyword(s.

Actionscript :: Assemble Array Of Continuous Points For A Contour Line Using Conrec

Mar 31, 2011

I am trying to implement contour lines in ActionScript using Conrec. I have looked at both the java and javascript implementation and am still stuck.URL...Conrec will take grid data and assemble continuous contour lines. The problem is that it does not necessarily draw those lines in a continuous fashion. For example, it will draw A->B and then C->B and then C->D instead of A, B, C, D, etc.The javascript implementation seems to be accounting for this and serializing the instructions into an array of draw points. Which is what I too want to accomplish in the end. That is it takes the instructions from the core Conrec logic (eg: A->B, C->B, C->D, etc) and organizes it into an A, B, C, D series. I think it will also return the series as a multi-dimensional array to accommodate broken lines (eg: [[A, B, C, D], [E, F, G]]). This last functionality is what I need to do in Actionscript.This last part is where I am stuck. Ignore Conrec for now (I have given up on finding an Actionscript implementation), how can I organize these instructions into a collection of serial points? When Conrec gives me "draw point from X->Y" how can I first check if X or Y are already in a series and append either X or Y (whichever is not in the series) into the series? AND if neither are in the series, start a NEW series with X, Y as the starting set. Then check subsequent instructions against all existing series and connect series if they now start and stop on the same point? Also, I need to be able to allow for a series to close itself (eg: A, B, C, A) -- a loop (is that even possible?!).

I'm not sure if there is a technical term for what I want to do beyond "concatenation". I also hope someone out there has done this with Conrec and can give me some pointers.In the meantime, I am going to continue to plug away at this and see if I can come up with something but I am not confident in my abilities.If you know another way to draw contour lines from grid data, I am open to alternatives. But I have to be able to implement it in Actionscript.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calculating Points Along A Curved Path

Dec 23, 2009

I'm developing some kind of dynamic time line. I want a curved line to represent time and dynamically put points over the curve representing the years. Maybe even have a slider along that curved line. I was thinking of creating the curve at runtime with bezier so that each time it would be different. Adding the slider is easy.... but I really don't know where to start for putting movieclips along the curve dynamically.

Actionscript 3 :: Calculating Evenly Distributed Points On A Line Of Points

Oct 3, 2011

I have been tasked with trying to create a drawing tool that draws dotted lines as you drag the mouse across the stage. I can easily capture the points on MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE and store them in a vector and then draw the points as dots:

The problem is that I need to calculate evenly distributed points on an ever growing Vector of points so I can only draw the line between say every 5th point (say using modulus). I have been battling away with Bezier curve equations both Quadratic and Cubic but still can't quite figure out how to convert my Vector of points into an evenly distributed Vector of Points without sucking the life from the CPU.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Drawing API Draw The Curved Lines?

Jun 17, 2011

I made this one poor class that has a public function which draws with a single loop a shape with curveTo() function (I tested one option to draw straight lines with lineTo() and only curved lines with curveTo() function but in my opinion, that lineTo function where a bit slower, at least in my implementations of testin speeds).I sent to it four parameters (anchor points and the control points) as many times as there were some corners to draw and everything seemed to go well untill I checked which way is faster to draw single rounded rect. Flashs own way beats my version up with huge 120 m/s distance already in some 100 000 iterations. The format of data I tested to send to my class function to draw that goddamned thing were numbers in arrays, numbers in objects and numbers in my own class objects like linked list and the file that holds just four numbers included in arrays or linked list. And two separate arrays, one for anchor points and one for the control points, with just Point Objects were fastest (if I remember correct) way but still that 120 m/s slower than Drawing API in Flash.My function in the class where something like:

ActionScript Code:
public function drawShape(points1:Array, points2:Array, lineOn:Boolean = false, fillOn:boolean = false, lineThickness:Number = 1, lineColor:uint = 0, lineAlpha:Number = 1, fillColor:uint = 0xff, fillAlpha:Number = 1):void{[code]..........

Flash - Programmatically Draw A Scalable, Curved Comic-book Balloon Tail?

Aug 13, 2010

As a UI specialist, I am often asked to build tool-tip displays and other sorts of popups that display text. One of styles clients seem most keen on is text in a comic-book balloon. I would like to create this balloons programmatically (as opposed to embedding or linking to rendered graphics), because these balloons will have to change size at runtime, depending on how much text they have to hold.

Balloons are easy to draw for the most part: circles, rectangles or rounded-corner rectangles. The tough part, for me, is the tail (the little arrow-like part of the comic balloon that points towards the speaker). If you google comic balloon, you see that there are many varieties of tails. They ones clients request from me most often are curved. E.g...

[URL]

The tail will always be on the bottom of the balloon, and it will sometimes point left and sometimes point right. I have been trying to come up with tail-drawing algorithms for a while, but I'm not happy with the results. I'm basically stumbling around in the dark, changing variables, looking at the results, and using trial and error to try to move closer to the magic numbers that will work. "Work" just means a result that looks pleasing, which I realize is subjective. Most of my clients will be a happy with anything that looks reasonably good and professional.

I want this result to scale. And it would be great if it could work with as few inputs as possible, maybe just isFacingLeft, tailWidth and tailHeight (Which could maybe be a percentage of the whole balloon). Maybe an adjustable curveAmount.

If it matters, I'm using Flash/Actionscript, but any system that has some sort of turtle graphics engine should work pretty much the same way: I'm working with that standard flipped Cartesian grid (y increases downward), x and y coordinates, the ability to move a pen, draw lines and draw curves.One caveat: Flash only allows me to draw 3-point bezier curves -- start point, control point, end point.

Note: balloons won't have to scale after the are drawn.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Make A MovieClip Move Along A Curved Line?

May 1, 2011

I created a character that can move left or right according to keys pressed by the user. (simple enough)But the most I could do is make it move along a straight line, (change X value)or along inclined lines by defining them as linear functions. (not very effective i guess)My question is, is there a way for me to draw a line and have my character walk across it?Is there something that would allow me to get the Y value of a curved line I drew based on its X value?Obviously this wouldn't be a problem if I could just draw a line from a mathematical equation, but my searches proved that to be rather complicated.

Flash :: Using The Pen Tool - Line Automatically Connects Between The Two Points In A Straight Line

Jul 3, 2009

I'm in the process of teaching myself the components of the CS4 Design Premium package using the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. I'm currently going through the Flash CIAB and i've started using the pen tool. The task involves creating a wave like design across the stage. Whilst this in itself is simple, the final instruction is to click on the first anchor point to close the shape. In the illustration, the closed shape seems to automatically extend around the stage, however when I click on the first anchor point, the line automatically connects between the two points in a straight line.

Am I doing something wrong? The next step is to fill this area, but with the straight line effect that I am getting, this becomes impossible. I should point out that the instruction states that the pen tool line should extend off the stage. I have done this, but even then on clicking on the first anchor point the shape is closed incorrectly.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Leaving And Embedded Time Line To Main Time Line

Mar 25, 2010

My issue is that for my website I want there to be movies in between the interactive parts of it where the interfaces slide in and out. However, I can't stop a movie from playing over and over instead of playing once and going to the next frame.With 2.0 I haven't been able to find any research that helps me, probably because I don't know the correct keywords to search for.Right now I have my main time line set up with a loading bar on frames 1 & 2, that then jumps to frame 3 where I have embedded a movie (Instance named: mc_start) of the interface sliding in. Preferably after that I need it to jump to frame 4 where the actual interface is.

I can get the movie to end by going into the embedded movie's time line and simply have stop() ; at the final frame, but I can't get it to go to frame 4 on the main time line. If I having something like gotoAndPlay(4) ; on the final frame of the embedded movie's time line, it simply goes to frame 4 of the embedded time line and not frame 4 of the main time line. If there was a command to make it jump back to the main time line instead of the embedded time line, that would work perfectly.Coding on Frame 3 of the main time line to jump to Frame 4 would work if I knew the correct language to detect when the movie has ended (Movie is 191 frames long), so that afterwards it would immediately jump to Frame 4, but I haven't been able to find any resources that will teach me how to do it. Right now having gotoAndPlay(4) ; on Frame 3 of the main time line obviously makes it immediately skip the movie on Frame 3 and jump to Frame 4.

ActionScript 3.0 :: BitmapData Draw() Method - Draw The Bitmap On The Stage At Design Time?

Mar 18, 2009

I am using the draw() method of the BitmapData to encode a jpeg of part of the image. Now this should be easy enough given the object I want to draw to the bitmap is on the stage at design time so I know its location and dimetions exactly! Heres the code I have in place.

Code:
var myBitmapSource:BitmapData = new BitmapData ( street.width, street.height, false, 0x333333);
myBitmapSource.draw(street, null, null, null, new Rectangle( 96, 5, 571, 450 ), true );

I know for a FACT that no part of the street clip I am drawing out is in negative space, and it's registration is (0,0). However, it cuts off A lot of the top of my image. y=5 in the above rectangle is where I need the top to be, but it cuts the top off of the image... even if I change it to 0, it has no effect.

ActionScript 2.0 :: API-draw: Check If Line Intersects Another Line

Apr 13, 2005

I'm making a very simple game that lets you draw a curve by hand (using lineTo to the mouse position on mousemove) but now, I need to check wether the line intersects wiith another part of the same line (e.g. a loop)

I first used an onrollover command, and that worked, but not always because the mouse moved too fast (same with hittest with mouse). Then I pre-drawed the line in another mc, used hittest on it, and if it wasn't intersecting, draw it in the real mc. But that didn't work because it used the bounds to test. I guess the best way is to use some mathematical formula, but that would mean I have to save all my coordinates in an array..
