ActionScript 3.0 :: Draw A Curved Path In Flash - Use Path Data
Aug 31, 2011Is it possible to draw out a path in the flash editor, set its visibility to hidden, and use this path data to animate objects in AS3?

View 1 RepliesI want to drag a object along a curved path , the curve is made up of 50 points(x,y) and I want to display the corresponding (x,y) coordinate of MC.
View 1 RepliesI'm developing some kind of dynamic time line. I want a curved line to represent time and dynamically put points over the curve representing the years. Maybe even have a slider along that curved line. I was thinking of creating the curve at runtime with bezier so that each time it would be different. Adding the slider is easy.... but I really don't know where to start for putting movieclips along the curve dynamically.
View 4 RepliesAs the topic indicates, i'm trying to create a curved path and make a movieclip follow that path up and down with a bit of rotation.
This could easily be done animating the timeline, however I need this to be done through pure AS - as when I mouseOver the MC, the MC need to stop and go to the top. [url]...
So I've created a script where a mc is clicked on and the player can draw a path using the mouse. I'm trying to figure out how I can get the mc to follow the path drawn out by the player's mouse and when the player clicks again, it erases all of the path.my code is below
Code:
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;[code].....
Flash AS2, AS3, and so on have many limitations. For example it is almost impossible to do transitions from a straight path to a curved one and vice versa for example as required in a in a car race game. You may have go for a frame by frame animation which is very cumbersome.
View 1 Repliesthe same class is passed to the mxmlc compiler in SWF library as a symbol linkage class and again in a source-path. But the compiler uses the definition from the source-path so creating new instance of that class won't create new instance of the library symbol. How do I tell the compiler to prefer the definition linked to the symbol (the one dfrom SWC)?
I have my design assets in an FLA file and they are linked to classes (e.g. [URL]. Then I export those assets to a SWC library and pass it to the compiler. Now when I create an instance of the class (new MyAsset();) it will be a new instance of the library object.
But there are other classes too in the source folder (e.g. "com.myproject.model.*" so I need to pass the source folder to the compiler too. And that is the problem, now the compiler will use the MyAsset.as definition from the source path, not from the SWC where it is assigned to the library object so if I create new instance of MyAsset now it won't duplicate the library object.
Any way which allow me to draw an arbitrary line with the pencil tool for instance, and then tell to flash to use this path as a motion path for an object on the stage by creating a motion tween. I know that this can be achieved by classic tween, but I look for a way to achieve the same effect but by using the new animation model of motion tween.
View 5 RepliesIs there a way to draw a path with symbols...
Sort of like the Deco Tool > Decorated brush.
The only problem with that tool is that the patterns are pre-set. I would like to draw a path and fill it with my own symbol instead...
i am wondering if it is possible to draw a path with the Graphics class, and then let an object follow that path as it's animation. example to make it more understandable: i have a movieclip on the screen, and as soon as a user cliks it and moves the mouse a path will be drawn. as soon as the user lifts its mouse the ball will follow te path at a certain speed that the user just made. i searched through the API and this board, but couldn't find any as3 solution.
View 3 RepliesHere's what i'm trying to do: Hide a MC depending on the path variable as:
[Code]...
Well that doesn't work, for some reason, i can't use a string as a multiple level path..
I was wondering if it possible to write up some AS that will take line paths that you have drawn and convert them into a Path object? For example say you drew a jagged line from left to write, would there be a way to have AS convert that into a Path object.
View 11 Repliesi have a quick question what is the syntax if u want to use parametrs to define a path inside a path? i mean:
[CODE]...
does anyone know.... it's very important!
This is a head scratcher. Why would a root relative path cause a Security Sandbox error.. but an absolute path to the exact same path work fine..
[Code]...
So, I'm using this Path Class to make a path and then draw it. I'm having a problem where there are some positions that I draw the path, the entire line does not draw.You can see an example of this here as the dot moves. The line flashes at a few coordinates. Just a small concept example I made. The path is there, it's just not being drawn.
The code :
Code:
import com.senocular.drawing.Path;
// create a path instance that draws in _root
var myPath:Path = new Path();
[code].....
I am new to Flash and ActionScript 3.0 environment. I don't have any knowledge in depth with Flash and ActionScript 3.0. I am using the flash(.swf file) in my Java application. Now, this .swf file is to be placed in the server system. While I am working with these, I faced an error. Here, my issue/problem(s) starts....
1.)With the help of URLRequest & URLLoader classes, I am loading a jpg file dynamically onto the stage using the following code:
[Code]...
I am displaying some flash content on a fairly standard page. This works really well when the flash, xml file and html page are sitting together in the same directory.url...However, I want to display that same content in another page which is deeper inside the site but outside of the directory that houses the .swf and .xml files as well as the assets.[code]The js files are loading properly but the flash content is not, so I could use a little help getting that sorted out.
View 1 RepliesWhat does _level0,_parent and _root mean in flash?What's the difference between absolute path and relative path?
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to draw motion guide/path for a mouse position based movement?
For example if I have path the is like letter H. I would need to write many clauses/conditions for the borders of the movement. It would be a LOT easier if there would be some solution that makes the object always to stay on the defined path when moving..
I am coming from flash to flashbuilder I have a directory, AS3_classes_dir, on my computer that stores all of my classes, including my greensock and papervision packages. In every flash app that I make I include that directory in the Source Path, so that I can import whatever I may need. Compiling in flash (using ctrl/enter) takes very little time; only the classes that are specifically imported are compiled.So today I did that in flashbuilder, included AS3_classes_dir via Flex Build Path/Source Path ... but now the compile time are a couple of minutes, even though I am not even importing ANY of the classes from within.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to draw this hint box and was wondering if anyone could explain to me how to draw a curved line like the one below in flash?
View 4 RepliesI made this one poor class that has a public function which draws with a single loop a shape with curveTo() function (I tested one option to draw straight lines with lineTo() and only curved lines with curveTo() function but in my opinion, that lineTo function where a bit slower, at least in my implementations of testin speeds).I sent to it four parameters (anchor points and the control points) as many times as there were some corners to draw and everything seemed to go well untill I checked which way is faster to draw single rounded rect. Flashs own way beats my version up with huge 120 m/s distance already in some 100 000 iterations. The format of data I tested to send to my class function to draw that goddamned thing were numbers in arrays, numbers in objects and numbers in my own class objects like linked list and the file that holds just four numbers included in arrays or linked list. And two separate arrays, one for anchor points and one for the control points, with just Point Objects were fastest (if I remember correct) way but still that 120 m/s slower than Drawing API in Flash.My function in the class where something like:
ActionScript Code:
public function drawShape(points1:Array, points2:Array, lineOn:Boolean = false, fillOn:boolean = false, lineThickness:Number = 1, lineColor:uint = 0, lineAlpha:Number = 1, fillColor:uint = 0xff, fillAlpha:Number = 1):void{[code]..........
I am working on a Flash game that uses 2D polygon collision. It seems to me that I could sketch the 2D collision around my objects using the pen tool, and make it invisible by putting it on a separate guide layer.
how to access the data on that layer - preferably as a set of points - from ActionScript.
I have a website im making in which jpgs are loaded through the loader component (using flash pro 2004) and I set the path and to autoload but the jpg. files won't load; something to note I have many instances of one loader but with different paths for different pictures.
View 1 RepliesShouldn't it be possible to pass in a dynamic url path for this property? I am successfully loading a variable using loadVars and then attempting to use that variable to populate the xmlConnector.URL property but it does not seem to work. Do you have to hardcode a url for this property?
View 1 Repliescreate a function that enables flash to:1. trace the path of a text file stated on an xml file2. extract data from the text file and display on a TextFieldHere are the current scripts I'm working on and they work on separate files.how I can combine these codes & carry out the functions indicated.
//trace the path of a text file stated on an xml file
var myXML:XML;
var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();

if you look at [URL] and check out the amazing background it has! how to place flash background, i know how color changing works, but how does the flash draw the randomly curved lines with gradient, and moves up and down? here is the link to the background flash [URL] as far i can tell, the lines are done purely in action script, because the whole thing is only 47kb
View 5 RepliesAs a UI specialist, I am often asked to build tool-tip displays and other sorts of popups that display text. One of styles clients seem most keen on is text in a comic-book balloon. I would like to create this balloons programmatically (as opposed to embedding or linking to rendered graphics), because these balloons will have to change size at runtime, depending on how much text they have to hold.
Balloons are easy to draw for the most part: circles, rectangles or rounded-corner rectangles. The tough part, for me, is the tail (the little arrow-like part of the comic balloon that points towards the speaker). If you google comic balloon, you see that there are many varieties of tails. They ones clients request from me most often are curved. E.g...
[URL]
The tail will always be on the bottom of the balloon, and it will sometimes point left and sometimes point right. I have been trying to come up with tail-drawing algorithms for a while, but I'm not happy with the results. I'm basically stumbling around in the dark, changing variables, looking at the results, and using trial and error to try to move closer to the magic numbers that will work. "Work" just means a result that looks pleasing, which I realize is subjective. Most of my clients will be a happy with anything that looks reasonably good and professional.
I want this result to scale. And it would be great if it could work with as few inputs as possible, maybe just isFacingLeft, tailWidth and tailHeight (Which could maybe be a percentage of the whole balloon). Maybe an adjustable curveAmount.
If it matters, I'm using Flash/Actionscript, but any system that has some sort of turtle graphics engine should work pretty much the same way: I'm working with that standard flipped Cartesian grid (y increases downward), x and y coordinates, the ability to move a pen, draw lines and draw curves.One caveat: Flash only allows me to draw 3-point bezier curves -- start point, control point, end point.
Note: balloons won't have to scale after the are drawn.
how I draw a line through a path line? An example I have a movieClip that is a pencil and it is moving through a path line, now I want to draw the line that the pencil draw.
View 2 RepliesHere's the effort simply displayed: http:[url].....it uses curveto to show the arc of a doorswing.I'd like the drawn arc instead to appear/trail along the leading edge of the door _as_ the door swings open. Guide Layers AS2 led me to tweening AS3 class but the beginning and end objects weren't right. Am I in the wrong place? This seemed somewhat straightforward but perhaps I'm searching for the wrong keyword(s.
