Asp.net :: Getting Root Path To Flex?

Feb 21, 2011

I am working on a project that is primarily ASP.NET based. The main project is meant to be deployed to multiple locations for different clients, so one client might be located at website.com/client1 and another at website.com/client2. Within the application, we regularly use the application root operator ~ to get the path to a resource.

We also have a bunch of Flex applications that get deployed in there, and many rely on web services within the ASP.NET application. What I'm after is a way to reference the services relative to the application root. Here's an example of the location of some files for two client deployments:

[URL]

FlexApplication and webService are both exactly the same, so what I want to do is something like this in the Flex code:

var myService:CustomService = new CustomService(~/services/webService.asmx);
myService.callMethod("Test");

I would like to avoid using relative paths for the usual reasons. Is there a good way to do this or a good way to pass the root url to the flex application from ASP.NET?

Flash :: Dispose GC Root YES Object With 1 Unknown Path?

Jul 13, 2011

I am in a very peculiar situation here with my AS3 code. I was profiling my app in Flash Builder 4.5.1 as it seemed that it wasn't GC-ing some objects properly.

how to get rid of this object? Or how to determine what is holding it alive?

What does 1 Path mean? What is that GC Root and how it got there?

I am using robotlegs with IModuleContext, SignalCommandMap, LazyMediatorMap.

EDIT #1: It could be related to the robotlegs injector issue... or not, still waiting for some answers.

Flash :: Mxmlc Compiler - Source-path Preferred Over Library-path?

Nov 9, 2011

the same class is passed to the mxmlc compiler in SWF library as a symbol linkage class and again in a source-path. But the compiler uses the definition from the source-path so creating new instance of that class won't create new instance of the library symbol. How do I tell the compiler to prefer the definition linked to the symbol (the one dfrom SWC)?

I have my design assets in an FLA file and they are linked to classes (e.g. [URL]. Then I export those assets to a SWC library and pass it to the compiler. Now when I create an instance of the class (new MyAsset();) it will be a new instance of the library object.

But there are other classes too in the source folder (e.g. "com.myproject.model.*" so I need to pass the source folder to the compiler too. And that is the problem, now the compiler will use the MyAsset.as definition from the source path, not from the SWC where it is assigned to the library object so if I create new instance of MyAsset now it won't duplicate the library object.

Flex :: Debugging - I Added Class Directory Via Flex Build Path/Source Path, And Now 'building Workspace' Takes Forever

Apr 3, 2012

I am coming from flash to flashbuilder I have a directory, AS3_classes_dir, on my computer that stores all of my classes, including my greensock and papervision packages. In every flash app that I make I include that directory in the Source Path, so that I can import whatever I may need. Compiling in flash (using ctrl/enter) takes very little time; only the classes that are specifically imported are compiled.So today I did that in flashbuilder, included AS3_classes_dir via Flex Build Path/Source Path ... but now the compile time are a couple of minutes, even though I am not even importing ANY of the classes from within.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Path To Xml File For Swf Inside Swf?

Mar 24, 2010

I'm trying to get a swf inside a swf to load xml data and I don't fully understand relative paths.I want to include all the necessary info.I have a main swf in my index.html page and a gallery.swf loaded into a container in the main swf, and I can't get the gallery.swf to load the xml data. See pic. I'm not sure if the path to XML file is wrong OR the paths to the image in the XML file are wrong.Here is the structure in the root:

root/index.html (contains main.swf)
root/flash/gallery.swf[code]....

I know the gallery swf IS loading into the main swf because for now I'm using the absolute path and I have typed "test" on the gallery stage and it shows up. (Once I get a grip on paths, I'll change the absolute path to a relative path, but for now, I need to reduce my variables for troubleshooting).I've think I've tried every path permutation for the load XML path inside the gallery swf:

ActionScript Code:
myXML.load("scripts/xml/gallery.xml");
myXML.load("./scripts/xml/gallery.xml");[code]....

I've also tried every permutation for the paths to the images, but unfortunately BOTH need to be right for the pics to show up!

Code:
<image image_small="gallery/thumbs/kirk_ross_01.jpg"
<image image_small="./gallery/thumbs/kirk_ross_01.jpg"[code].......

ActionScript 3.0 :: Path Or Target Frame Inside Of MovieClip?

Mar 8, 2009

I'm trying to reference a specific frame inside a MC in my .swf file from an .as file. What I want is to capture the current frame of the movie clip for the .as file. It's for the purpose of points when you shoot each plane. It's an easy trick of frame 1's plane would be worth 100 points, frame 2's plane 200 points, etc. I thought I'd write a line like this in my collision detection section of my .as file.

Code:
planePoints = currentFrame * 100;

The only problem is, of course, it grabs the current frame of the main .swf timeline that my flash file uses, and not the movieclip that's being called to produce the planes. So I thought I'd be able to specify a path to the movie clip (in this case it's called Airplane in the MC's linkage properties).

Code:
planePoints = Airplane.currentFrame * 100;
Then, of course, it freaks out and says that 'access of possibly undefined property currentFrame through a reference with static type Class.'

I still get confused with AS3 and the way items are handled vs AS2. I've lost track of how many times I type _root. Am I getting something basic mucked up here or should I be importing something in the package to get it to recognize the class?

When using as3 and embed my swf via swf object JS, one of the parameters that being transferred to the embed JS function is "base=http://www.mydomain.com" which needed in order to load external widget into application.

Now, am also loading external assets like Styles.swf that placed locally on client side, and when I'm trying to load these assets I get error that they don't found in [URL]

For example: StyleManager.loadStyleDeclarations("Styles.swf");
