Jul 21, 2011Ok, modules in Flex are popular but I have no idea why documentation and examples on the different uses of Flex modules can be so scarce.Anyway, for this question, I will take the classic Employee/Department example. I have a main.mxml that contains an mx:TabNavigator. Each tab is loaded by an s:ModuleLoader.Tables: Employees {empID,empName,deptID}, Deparments {deptID,deptName}The Tab Navigator contains only one tab (for our example) called Employee. I have an Employee.mxml module. In that module, I have a datagrid that is populated with Employee details. I use the getEmployees($deptID) function. This function, as you may guess, returns me an array of Employees who work in a particular department.
Outside the TabNavigator, I have a departmentDropDownList that is populated with departments.deptName.My objective is to load the Employee module when I select a particular department from the DropDownList. I have a changeHandler for the DropDownList that can give me the deptID.

Create A Module For A Flex Application
May 27, 2009I'm trying to create a module for a flex application, and I want to send notifications to clients. I've been looking at the BlazeDS messaging service to push out the notifications to clients, but I want to be able to send certain updates to certain clients. The Flex notification framework doesn't seem to allow this - if we have a field in the message with a value of the user's user id for example, any client could theoretically subscribe to all messages for any given user id, and there's no verification on the server side to make sure that the client that has subscribed is logged in as that user id.Is there something I've missed here, or is the best way to handle this writing my own polling mechanism on the client side?

Mar 15, 2010I have a large module written in JS which uses Canvas to draw and animate trees. This module was written for a product which is now being migrated to flex.
Is there a way in flex to embed this JS module as is? Or would I have to rewrite the whole module in AS3 (shudder)? Further, if embedding is possible, would user interactions (mouse clicks) etc. work seamlessly?

Flex :: Dispatch Event From Application To Module?
Mar 29, 2010Is there a way how modules can listen to parent application event? My current solution that works is:

this means that I need to dispatch event for every module.
Android :: Flex - Loading Module On An Air Application?
Dec 13, 2010I'm building an Air for Android App and I'm having problems loading a flex module. Does anyone know if loading modules is possible???
I built a simple app with just a ModuleLoader in it, which loads a mx:module. The module has only a simple mx:Label with a "Hello World" text.I build a .air with this. Then I build a .apk with the followin adt command.
adt -package -target apk-emulator -storetype pkcs12 -keystore certificate.p12 hello.apk hello.air
The application works just fine when running it on the PC, but when I do it on the apk-emulator it just goes blank and throws error #2032.
Flex :: Creating RobotLegs Module Within A PureMVC Shell Application
Oct 19, 2010I'm working on an existing modular project that was built in PureMVC. Instead of converting everything over to RobotLegs, I want to create a new module using RobotLegs and plug it into the pureMVC shell. Currently, when the module loads, I get the following flash error: ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable IMediatorMap is not defined.
Inititally, I thought it was because my module needed a pureMVC Mediator to call the pureMVC StartupCommand to get things "hooked up" and THEN create the RobotLegs' Context. However, that didn't work and I'm still getting the error.

So, my problem is, how can I implement an interface so my module can send and receive data from my main app?, cuz, I understand that my module implements an interface that is used by my main app.. but, can I do it "viceversa"?
Other issue I have is, why do I need to call my main app children if I can just import a module's class?.

IDE :: Flex Application As Custom UI Component
Dec 22, 2009I'm making a UI for a component in Flash. I wanted to use Flex and have had no luck getting the onUpdate exernalInterface call to fire properly. I'm referencing the functionality described here: [URL]. First off, I can't embed the SWF in the FLA. It just won't start the Flex SWF. Even using the external swf, it seems that the onUpdate function is either called too early or not at all. Here's what I've tried:
Tying the externalInterfce declaration to the initialize, preinitialize, applicationComplete, and creationComplete events. Sub-classing my application and putting the externalInterface in the constructor. Neither of these options work. When I create a basic AS3 project in Eclipse and put the externalInferface in the constructor, it works as expected.

Sep 10, 2009Is there a way to tell at runtime if a flex UIComponent is in the user's view or not.For example, if I have a tabNavigator with a combobox on each tab, is there a property of the comboBox that will tell me if it is visible to the user or not when I switch from one tab to another?I know it is not the comboBox.visible property. That is set to "true" for both comboboxes. I want a property that will change when I switch from one tab to another making the comboBox visible to the user. I don't know what that property is.

Ios :: (iPad) Application On Flex / Flash Builder 4.5 - SplitView Component?
Sep 8, 2011I'm new to developing iOS applications and my school gave me approximately 5 months to develop an iPad application. I have no knowledge or practice on Objective C so since Flash Builder 4.5 allows the development of mobile applications (and I have experiences with Flash Builder), I decided to develop my application on Flash Builder instead.
Everything is going fine until I was told to include a SplitView in my application. I implemented a List on the left side of the application. Clicking on any of the list items will navigate the user to a to another view but i also included and retained the list on the left side of the new view in order to simulate a "SplitView".
Initially it felt as though it will do the job of a SplitView like how it does when I attempted it on XCODE but it doesn't look or feel natural. I found this video which shows that it is possible to create a SplitView on FB but I've cracked my brains and I really can't figure out how it is done.

Jan 2, 2012I have created a modular application. I have two modules, for example Module1 and Module2.I have loaded these modules in my application. I am using Parsley in my application. I have loaded separate different context builder in both modules.
But when I am dispatching event from Module1, I am able to listen that event in that Module1 but I am trying to listen that event in another Module2. I am not able to listen that event in that Module2 through Parsley.

Flash :: Swap MXML Component In Application From Another Component?
Apr 13, 2011I am trying to create my first real world Flex application. I will have a lot of different data entry / data view screens so I thought I would create many different components to deal with each different type of data that was being returned. I have a MXML application called Layout, and have component called "Navigator" which controls the menu, as well as a ViewStack called "MainContent".
I want the Navigator component to change the ViewStack on the Layout application to that of another Component (each Component is embedded within the Canvas of each ViewStack). I have a click handler on my Navigator which looks like this: Layout.ContentFrame.selectedChild=event.itemRenderer.data.clickValue; However it shows the error "Access of possibly undefined property ContentFrame through a reference with a static type Class." Is my approach a good way of doing it? I have attempted referencing it using FlexGlobals.Layout and topLevelApplication.Layout... neither of which work?[URL]
