The Accessibility best practices for Flex page from Adobe website list four strategies to enable accessibility :

I test if the accessibility is enabled by checking the value of Accessibility.active, which is always false in my sample application containing only a datagrid and some buttons, using the four above strategies. As I'm new to Flex, I don't really know where else I could search to enable it, and no, Accessibility.active = true; isn't a solution, as it's a read-only property

everything goes well but the application consist on a cartesian plane that, optionally, could have the GoogleMap displayed on the background. The point is that I don't know how to hide the map once it is loaded. I would like to load it only if I click on a checkbox
I came here after searching over the GoogleMaps Reference for some "enable/disable map" function, but I had no luck.

I'm a blind developer who is considering learning Flex. According to this link when you compile a flex application with the defaults it isn't accessible to screen readers. Why is this, are there performance issues I should be aware of, or was this just an arbitrary choice Adobe made?

I have a flash based Air application I'm trying to add keyboard accessibility to (not flex).
My problem is that MouseEvent.CLICK is not being broadcast when tabbing to and hitting enter on an interactive movieclip.
The yellow hilight rectangle shows up around the movieclip fine, and the same code works perfectly if it's compiled into a non-air swf.
Is there some difference in keyboard interaction when compiling to Air?

I need to make a small app accessible to screen reader.I'm managing to make buttons accessible, but I would also like to have a section of text accessible by screen readers so that users can hear what the text says.
I can't seem to work out how to do this.. I've tried various text controls and set them as focusEnabled, tabEnabled, i've set the accessibility* attributes too but it never seems to work, I cannot tab to a text label and hear the content.
I'm honestly a little new to accessiblity in Flex so apologies if i'm missing something obvious.

How to add accessibility requirements to a swf created using mxml+flex sdk? I have a few buttons and textfields in the swf and the impaired user should be able to increase the button size and text size while using the swf. I've looked into flex built-in accessibility features, but its not what I require. I want to run the swf standalone without a browser, so preferably change the size with a visual widget.

I would like to enable the (Open in a new tab) option when a user right clicks a mx:LinkButton, take the address that linkbutton is supposed to go to and allow the user to click on (open in a new tab) and get to that address in a new tab. Is there an easy way to do that.

I have the following problem, I have a flex application that works as a frontend in a client-server-application. In my application I have two sliders and a chart that moves when I drag the sliders, now when I have the following positions
slider 1: 10
slider 2: 20
a request is sent to the server and the response back to my flash. When I now change the sliders to
slider 1: 10
slider 2: 30
another request is sent to the server, because we have changed the position of slider 2. When I now turn the sliders again to the first position.
slider 1: 10
slider 2: 20
no request is sent to the server and the chart is moved correctly because the flash seems to know what he will receive, I think the application has cached the result. This effect only works when I open the flash application in the flash player. When I open it in the browser every slider position leeds to another request to the server. Is there a way to enable the caching also when I open it in the browser?

I can't seem to work out how to enable icons in the AIR Debug Launcher. This seems to work on Linux, but when I run it on Windows or Mac only the Adobe AIR icon shows. I have specified the location of the icon in <icon></icon> in the application descriptor file.

I've configured Flash Debug player to log trace messages from my Flex application to the flashlog.txt file.I can see trace() messages from my own code, thats ok.
However, would also like to see also trace messages from Fle SDK. I use Flex SDK ver. 4.1, and, for example, I would like to have trace message trace("app initialize app"); which is placed in function initialize() in mx/core/Application.as file in the SDK.
What I need to do? Should I recompile SDK somehow or is there a compiler switch to enable this? I'm a beginner in Flex, so I'm sorry if this question sounds silly.

I have a fms 3 server runing a video chat room application. It goes well except everyday it will die once or twice. After restarting the fms server, everything goes working again.I checked its log, i saw many "Server rejected an invalid flow."

As mentioned in release notes to Flash Player 11, developers added LZMA compression support.
Question is how can one enable this support? Maybe there's an mxmlc option? Or more steps?
Simply setting -swf-version=13 and switching playerglobal.swc in sdk didn't work for me.

In AS2,suppose there is an input text field in frame 1 with var name ONE,its text content can be accessed in say frame 2 even though that textfield is not in stage.But in AS3,I think this is not possible right?So,how can I access instances or movieclips or variables at different frames?Do I have to make a class and make const vars?If so,If I have some irregular shape,say a man as movieclip,how can I add it to the global class?

I need to add accessibility to a flash program which I have created. I can make the screen reader state all of the different buttons and at the top level of a combobox. However if I traverse the combobox none of the items are mentioned by the screenreader. I've tried various things down to trying to set the accessibility properties of the combobox items as though they were an array cb[0].accessibilityProperties = accessProps0; but nothing seems to work.

What I'm trying to do: allow a user to be able to select a color palette for a custom component by selecting from a drop down menu with a variety of icons.
I have the drop down menu part down, but I'm trying to understand how to best handle the various styles in my code. Ideally I would have liked to be able to load styles at run time, but I don't see a major advantage with this so I'm now thinking about compiling in all styles. Still, I can't seem to find a decent way to structure the code. Hacking it seems pretty easy / fast, but there's got a better way than having a big fat array of values which can be indexed via some index associated with each icon

How can I enable or disable a group of components in flex (flash builder 4)?
For example, if I have a window with several fields, I want to disable them based on the users permissions.
I know I can add the enabled="true" or "enabled="false", and I can also use enabled="{writeAccessVar}"
However, I am looking for more ideas, as I might have more than one group of fields on the screen, or more complicated user permissions.
For example, I will currently have one field with write access, the other fields on the screen read only for a certain user level.
For a higher level user, all fields are writable. Lower level, all are read-only.

I'm making a modular site, that loads in external swfs that need to have decent screen reader names for each of the buttons.
The shell swf is set up to work with Thunder and NVDA screen readers by creating an AccessiblityProperties instance and assigning it to the relevent display objects then calling Accessibility.updateProperties( ) ; This method works in the main swf, but when used in the loaded swf it's not picking up the updated accessibility properties of the buttons, even though Accessibiltiyy.updateProperties( ) ; as been called again.

I'm trying to develop a simple mxml Flex application to start Skype from the AIR/Flashplayer runtime. Is it possible to get back events from a native Windows application? In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?

What I want is to if user re-sizes the application then that container should also be re-sized according to scale. i.e If user maximizes or minimizes the window then that border container should also be maximized or minimized respectively.
