Flex :: Graphics - Add A Gloss Gradient Over Only The Top Half Of The Button?
Dec 30, 2009
how to create a button class that looks something like this: Taken from this tutorial page. I'm struggling to figure out what combination of filters I need to use to achieve the glossy effect. The rounded corners and bevel/glow effect are simple enough. But how can I add a gloss gradient over only the top half of the button?

I have a movieclip with an image fading in and out (using an actionscript tween class set to yoyo). This movieclip is loaded into a dummy movieclip when a button is pressed. The first time you click the button the fading movieclip plays as it should, fading in and out continuously. However, the second or subsequent times the button is clicked the fading movieclip goes crazy, half fading in/out and half jumping from one alpha value to another.

Building a flash website in CS3. I've made every button the exact same way, draw a rectangle, convert to symbol, type as either button or movie clip (doesn't seem to matter and I'm not using rollover stuff), alpha 0% and stick it on its own layer above everything else.Action scrip is as follows:
main1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoMain);
main2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoMain);
function gotoMain(event:MouseEvent):void
{
gotoAndPlay(1);
}
that's with 2 buttons for main. I have the exact same code multiple times for many different buttons. It works everywhere except the last two buttons on my page will work the first time you click them from the main page, but then don't work after that until you click on the main page again. Then it works.These two:
babout3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoAboutb1);
bcontact3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoBcontact1);
the function is described on an earlier action keyframe:
bcontact1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoBcontact1);
function gotoBcontact1(event:MouseEvent):void[code]...
Of course I've tried just having one button do this and copy/pasting the button on different areas of the movie, but nothing I've done fixes. I've even gone through and deleted every button and AS and redone it. I've put every button on its own layer (shouldn't matter but I'm trying everything I can think of).if there is an easier way of using AS to navigate a flash movie let me know. The other options I've seen seem a bit too complex at the moment.

The first half of the tween doesn't work but the second half does. It only does this when I add the code link._visible = 0;. This is to make the alpha completly disappear.

I'm trying to create spinning rays in actionscript to use in my website.Below is the rough idea of what i'm trying to create.Is it possible to create absolutely with 0 images.Following is the actionscript code in which i couldn't figure out how to add gradient, transperant background and little radial gradient to create glow effect.
Code:
function CreateRays():Shape {
var ray:Shape = new Shape();
ray.graphics.beginFill(0xFF9900,.5);
ray.graphics.lineStyle(1,0xFF9900,.5);
[code]....
If you paste above code in 1st frame of your scene with nothing on your scene, it will give you sweet rotating rays!

In my original Flash/AS3 application I had a Sprite acting as a background. I put it underneath all other DisplayObjects and fill it with a linear gradient of random color. It looked good and seemed to work well with Flash Components (Buttons, Checkboxes, TexFields), because they are transparent.
So in my new Flex program (with BasicLayout), I've tried creating a Rect too:
<s:Rect left="0" top="0" right="0" bottom="0">
<s:stroke>
<s:LinearGradientStroke id="_bgcolor" rotation="90" weight="1">
[Code]....
But this doesn't work well, the Rect is obscured by the other Flex components:
Is there a quick way of adding a backround gradient to a Flex application (something as simple as backgroundColor="#CCCCCC") or do I have to study "skinning docs" (and will skinning of an Application help here, since the problem seems to be that the Flex components are opaque?)

I was wondering about MC and hey can help to lag a game out. I set up an advanced class system so i don't have to use MC to simulate walls, all i use isthe x,y,width and height. Well anyway since i don't need MC anymore I was wondering if there is a way to attach Graphics instead of MC cause a Graphics file size is relatively small than that of a graphic, I think. If anyone could tell me thats true and show me a way to attach graphics that would be nice. I haven't tried it yet but maybe if I exported the graphic from the library imihgt be able to call its name, but it doesn't have an instance name so im stuck.

I'm creating a site for my Flash cartoons, and one of the things I'm trying to do is create a button that the user can click on and view the background picture of the site differently.
For example - My site's background image is of an environment during the day (my default background). I also have an image of the same environment at night. I want the user to be able to click on either the "day" or "night" buttons to change the background. Problem is, I don't know where to start.

I'm working with Flex 3.4 SDK.
I'm trying to programmatically(yep, must be this way) style/skin a VBox so that its top right corner is rounded, and it gets a two colors gradient brackground.
Modifying examples I found around I was able to accomplish both effects(corner and background) but only separately:
VBox with not all rounded corners: [URL]
VBox with gradient background: [URL]
But what I need to do is to apply both at the same time. And all my coding attempts so far have failed silently.

I've been trying to embed some svg files into an AS3 project using the Embed meta tag. For example:
[Code]...
However when displaying these files as Sprites only some of the gradients are surviving the embeding process. From what I've found simple (2 step) horizontal gradients seem to stand the best chance of being preserved, but sometimes other kinds of gradients are as well. In one case simply rotating an object 90 degrees causes the gradient to vanish when displayed in flash. Does anyone know a rough set of rules to use when creating svg gradient fills so they are preserved when rendered in flash? BTW: I used Inkscape to create the images in question.
Update: Bizarrely the solution to this seems to be setting the opacity of any object in the svg file whose gradient isn't displayed properly to a value below 1. Don't ask me why this works but it does. It does however have the unwanted side effect of the objects edges not being rendered as smoothly.
