View 1 RepliesHow do you determine the line height (in pixels) of the text in a Spark Label?
View 2 RepliesSuppose I have a (Spark) label. What is the best way to find the length of the text in it? I looked at the myLable.measureText("bla bla") method but it says: To measure text in Spark components, get the measurements of a spark.components.Label or spark.components.RichTextfter looking around I cannot find what this is refering to. I tried myLabel.measureWidth() but this does not return anything usefull (it frequently returns zero). Note: I am explicitly setting the width like this:<s:Lable width="{globalWidthVariable"} .../>If the text overflows I would like to increse the globalWidthVariable to the size of the text.

View 1 RepliesI need to set the text of a spark label and then position such label along the x axis depending on its width. Unfortunately, it seems that the width of the label does not update right away and thus the positioning will fail. I can listen to updateComplete events on the label and update its position then, but that means repositioning the label a lot more often than I would like (updateComplete fires off a lot more often than upon changing width). how to properly handle what would appear to be a trivial task?
Here's a code snippet that shows what I described above. If you press the button you will see 3 traces: the label width before changing its text, right after setting its text, and when the label is done updating itself. Would love to know if there's a way to get the correct width without having to listen to updateComplete events... The button and the VGroups are just there to run the example

I've got a spark buttonbar w/ a dataprovider as follows:[code]By default, the button's labels will be "Dave" and "Brenda", respectively. How can I dynamically change the label to the "addr" field when a user rolls over the button?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to determine the height of a Spark label that becomes multiline at runtime (due to width property being set), to account for text overflow.
(For a spark label named Title) I have tried:
Title.measureText(Title.text).height - this seems to return only the height of one line. (Due to differing screen-sizes and font rendering, I don't know in advance how many lines the text would overflow to...)
Title.height - this seems to return the height of the label size (before being re-adjusted at runtime for multiline text flow)
Both properties above return an unchanging value even when different text lengths/multiple lines long are filled in .text
Is there really no way to determine the exact height of an overflow Spark label?
I am admittedly not that familiar with the Flex API but after scouring the manual for quite some time, I am still unable to place this title label with the proper spacing.
Among all the options of the spark label, there is none that tells me the last character shown when the text is truncated, is there any way to accomplish this?
View 1 RepliesHow do you scroll an editable TextArea (Flex Hero) on a touch device? I am referring to the situation where the text does not fit in the TextArea height.When I try to tap and drag the text gets selected and not scrolled... Am I missing a something here? View 2 RepliesI have a spark datagrid on a mobile application, I set the
interactionMode="touch"
and the dataGrid scrolling is good, I got some problems adding a selectionChange eventListener to it, because scrolling the dataGrid will automatically change the selection and instead simply scrolling it, the function binded will start...
How can I add the touch dalay before select the index, so if I scroll the grid the selection won't change, and it change only if I press the item without scrolling?
I'm playing around with a messaging type of application. Does anyone know how, or of any tutorials on to "appending" html text to text areas in flex and flex mobile projects? And specifically how I could take that and basically "append" a sprite inline to the text when i need to? Something simple like:Username: some text right here!So, Anyone have any experience "appending" sprites or simple text formatting?how to solve these issues!EDIT:Based on an answer below it was sugguested that it's as simple as...textAreaInstance.htmlText += "<b>Username:</b> some text right here!";But its not. you can't do .htmltext with a text area. you can on a text field, so i tried
var TF:TextField = new TextField();
TF.width = 200;
TF.height = 200;

In Flex Mobile Project, Text Input shows blocks instead of showing arabic text. Labels are working fine with Arabic.
Is there any way to show Arabic text inside text input?

Since, it is for flex mobile project, when I input any text in arabic, it shows separate characters. Arabic is a language that doesn't have separate characters. It should combine letters to form specific word.
I have an mxml file called HomeView.mxml in a mobile app built using Flash Builder 4.6. In that HomeView.mxml I have an HSlider, which is dispatching events when the thumb is moved. What I'm trying to do is to listen for that valueCommit event in an .as file elsewhere in the project.
Whenever the thumb moves, an event is dispatched in HomeView.mxml:
hSlider.dispatchEvent(new FlexEvent("valueCommit", true));
I can handle that event in HomeView.mxm, but not in an .as class called view.as
In view.as I import the FlexEvent and I then have, in addedToStageHandler:
stage.addEventListener(FlexEvent.VALUE_COMMIT, commitHandler);
Then there's a simple Handler:
private function commitHandler(e:FlexEvent):void
{
trace("committed!");
}
But this code never runs. I do have a handler in the HomeView.mxml file which handles the event, but for other reasons I need to handle it in view.as as well.
I have 2 spark labels next to each other. They are in a basic layout and both have bottom set to 0. They have different font sizes (28 and 12).
Both fields only display numbers. I want the baseline of the numbers to line up.
At the moment they do not as there are no descenders and the descender area of the line is obviously a different height for the 2 different font sizes.
I would like to move (right or left according the current view) between 2 views when I move my finger on the mobile screen; for example with Google+ mobile application, in profil section, you can change the view just on move your finger on the screen, and the offset and the moving speed must be checked before change complete view.
View 2 RepliesIn a flex project that I have that is designed to scale 100% to the web window, I have a spark list. And I have a simple itemrenderer that takes the data and displays a name, and a message. Just think of it like a simple instant messenger display. The problem is that for my msg_txt label I want to give it a width thats the width of the parent list thats holding it.I tried turning the horizontalScrollPolicy to off, also tried width="this.parent.parent.width}" (as well as this.parent.width) for the spark label inside the item renderer. and in the label i tried some things like left="0" right="0" maxWidth="{this.width}" but nothing really does the trick.How can I make this label have a max width of the list thats holding it, AND make sure it resizes if the size of the browser changes and the list size changes?heres the list:

What is the best way to display a large amount of text (5000-10000 words) in a Flex mobile app?
I have been loading text in through an xml file using itemrenderer. It works totally fine when I run the application on my PC but when I load it onto my Android phone it crashes. Looks like my phone can only handle loading in about 3000 words using this method without crashing.
Anyone have a suggestion? Also, HTML isn't going to work for me. I want the text built into the application, which is why I have been trying to use the xml file.
I have a renderer that looks like this:

Loading thumbnails using this method works perfectly. The issue happens when you scroll the List.
Flex's text-editing controls (mx:TextField, mx:TextArea) offer functions for doing "stuff" with the selected text (selectionBeginIndex, selectionEndIndex, setSelection), but the text-displaying controls (mx:Label, mx:Text) don't seem to offer anything of the sort.After some tinkering, I've tried subclassing Label then writing functions which give access to the underlying TextField instance... But even then, setting the selection didn't work![code]So, is there any better way to access/change the text which is selected in mx:Label and mx:Text controls? Are there "better" controls to use?

Then htmlText doesn't support Spark Textarea. Hence produces error. How does one go about displaying HTML formatted text with spark Text Area Property.
I've been playing with s:ComboBox and generally like them a lot. One detail is driving me nuts though - most likely due to my lack of knowledge in the subject - is that if I try to add a new item to my dataprovider in a changeHandler (registered to the change event) the text for the ComboBox textInput disappears - although the item addition works perfectly. Interestingly enough the same operation works fine if it gets called by clicking on a button, i.e. post the change event has been processed, and the text does not disappear.[code]if you take out the change handler you will see that adding a new item and then clicking on the button keeps the new element in the textInput while adding the item to the data provider, which does not happen if you just enter a new item and press enter.
