Flex :: Align Text In Spark Labels?

Aug 26, 2010

I have 2 spark labels next to each other. They are in a basic layout and both have bottom set to 0. They have different font sizes (28 and 12).

Both fields only display numbers. I want the baseline of the numbers to line up.

At the moment they do not as there are no descenders and the descender area of the line is obviously a different height for the 2 different font sizes.

Apr 14, 2011

I have an application with a Google Map, an Area Chart, and an accordion containing a list.When the selection in the list is changed, the application fetches data from the server and updates the chart and map, repositioning the map to contain all markers within its viewport and kicking off a SeriesEffect to animate the chart data redraw.When a user changes selections and continues to mouse over the items in the list while the map and chart are redrawing, the labels on the item renderers disappear.The item renderer code is the following:

Flex :: Mx:formitem Multiple Labels - Add A Second Label To A Text Box?

Nov 21, 2011

I'm a new to Flex, and I'm trying to add a second label to a text box.

like this: Label [_______] label 2

So the first label will describe the text box and the second the unit, for example:

cost of cleaning [_______] $ per hour

Can I do this with a label inside the form item?

what I have tried looks like this:

mx:FormItem label="cost of cleaning">
<mx:TextInput id="proSRO2YO" text="" width="120" maxChars="20"/>
<mx:Label text="dollars per hour"/>
</mx:FormItem>

but that results in a second label one line below, I need these on the same line.

Flex :: Spark ComboBox Displaying Text For New Item?

Sep 16, 2010

I've been playing with s:ComboBox and generally like them a lot. One detail is driving me nuts though - most likely due to my lack of knowledge in the subject - is that if I try to add a new item to my dataprovider in a changeHandler (registered to the change event) the text for the ComboBox textInput disappears - although the item addition works perfectly. Interestingly enough the same operation works fine if it gets called by clicking on a button, i.e. post the change event has been processed, and the text does not disappear.[code]if you take out the change handler you will see that adding a new item and then clicking on the button keeps the new element in the textInput while adding the item to the data provider, which does not happen if you just enter a new item and press enter.

I looked at the myLable.measureText("bla bla") method but it says: To measure text in Spark components, get the measurements of a spark.components.Label or spark.components.RichTextfter looking around I cannot find what this is refering to. I tried myLabel.measureWidth() but this does not return anything usefull (it frequently returns zero). Note: I am explicitly setting the width like this:<s:Lable width="{globalWidthVariable"} .../>If the text overflows I would like to increse the globalWidthVariable to the size of the text.

Flex :: Changing Spark TextArea Text Color Dynamically Over A Range Of Characters?

Dec 22, 2010

I am attempting to dynamically change the color of a subset/portion of text in a Spark TextArea control. Using the MX-based TextArea, I could leverage the mx.controls.textClasses.TextRange type and change the color directly as follows:

TextRange tr = new TextRange(theTextAreaControl, false, beginIndex, endIndex);
 tr.color = somePredefindColor;

Input Parameters to TextRange constructor:

1st argument: The TextArea control that will provide access to the underlying textField property
2nd argument: Indicates the TextRange will not modify the content of the TextArea
3rd argument: The beginning index position in the TextArea text string
4th argument: The ending index position in the TextArea text string

How would I go about doing this for a Spark-based TextArea control? I am looking to dynamically change the font color for a range of text, not just the entire TextArea AND I cannot statically specify the font color. The problem I run into when trying to re-use the TextRange type is that the 1st argument is expected to provide the textField property, which is currently not on the Spark-based TextArea control. I thought about extending the Spark-based TextArea control to provide this accessor property but that seems like overkill and is probably not the best approach.

Flex :: Shrink The Default Spark DataGrid Row Height And Keep The Text Vertically In View?

Dec 11, 2011

In the Spark DataGrid the default row height is about 22 px. I would like to set the default row height to 18 pixels and I can do this easily enough with the rowHeight property but what happens is when the rowHeight is set to anything less than 22 px the bottom area of the text in each row is cut off. It seems that the default grid itemrenderer or grid label has a min height set to it. Since I have multiple columns and want to have shorter rows but not have the bottom of the text cut off in each row how would I do this?

Professional :: Align Text In Vertical Center Of Text Box On Mac

Jul 12, 2009

I am having a problem with my text alignment and I can't figure out a way to correct this. Unfortunately, I'm using a mac with CS3 and a Windows computer with CS4, so it could either be an OS difference, a version difference, or a software bug which I can't figure out.

Update: I downloaded a trial CS4 and the problem persists.  This seems to be a mac issue. For some reason, the text on my Mac with CS3 are not in the vertical center of the text fields. This causes a problem with my "align vertical centers" alignments, meaning I've had to do the alignment by hand to get it to look right. When I moved my file to my laptop to keep working on my project at home, I noticed that the text alignment was correct on my laptop, causing all of the text placement throughout my document to be off. This means that I can only work on the one computer and can't bring the project home to work through the weekends. I have made an image showing the difference of how the text is aligned on the two versions, and a sample of how it affects my project when i bring it between computers.

I made the file on the mac (CS3) first, and so the alignment is designed to look correct on there. When i bring it to the PC (CS4) the text shifts down, placing it back in the center of the text boxes and ruining the alignment. When I publish the file it keeps the formatting of each system. IE - publishing on the mac makes the final product look like it does on the mac, and publishing on the windows computer makes it look like it looks on the windows computer. The file published from the mac has the mac alignment on both computers, and the file published from the pc has the alignment of the pc on both computers.

Just to clarify, the way flash handles text fields on windows / cs4 is how I imagine it should be. I made the file on mac/CS3 however, and so when i said "ruins the alignment" I should have said "fixes the alignment problem, but breaks my alignment which was made to compensate for the problem I was experiencing."

Vertically Align Middle Input Text In A Text Box?

Oct 2, 2009

I'm creating Flash-based software that has text boxes where users write in the answers to questions. I want the text that the user types to be vertically aligned to the middle of the text box, so that even if the response is two or three lines, it is still centered in the box.

It doesn't appear that I can accomplish this through the properties window in Flash. Am I missing something? Or is it possible to set the properties of the text box with actionscript, and would that allow me to vertically align the text?
