View 1 RepliesSuppose I have a (Spark) label. What is the best way to find the length of the text in it? I looked at the myLable.measureText("bla bla") method but it says: To measure text in Spark components, get the measurements of a spark.components.Label or spark.components.RichTextfter looking around I cannot find what this is refering to. I tried myLabel.measureWidth() but this does not return anything usefull (it frequently returns zero). Note: I am explicitly setting the width like this:<s:Lable width="{globalWidthVariable"} .../>If the text overflows I would like to increse the globalWidthVariable to the size of the text.
View 1 RepliesI am using a TextField in Flash CS2, because I need to know the width of the actual text for positioning purposes. However from some odd reason it doesn't always work when the browser is Google Chrome.
View 2 RepliesHow can I color words in spark:TextInput with two or more colors? I did it with mx:TextInput with htmlText property but i can not find it in spark component.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to trace the width of the actual text of a dynamic textfield (called 'label'). i know this should be
code: trace(label.textWidth);
however, all I get is an 'undefined' message in the output box. Whereas, if I trace(label.length) instead, then it counts the number of digits in the text field. I thought label.textWidth would work? I want to find the length of the text in pixels basically...
I might be taking crazy pills but has anyone actually gotten the errorSkin feature to work? I am not doing anything crazy, just extending TextInput (spark) and setting the errorSkin property.I have tried creating a skin using SparkSkin, did nothing.I have tried creating a skin using ProgrammaticSkin, did nothing.TextInput is always a red border. I know you can set errorColor and errorString but I am obviously looking to do more than just change the color of the border. I am compiling using Flex 4.1.
Implimentation:
<components:PromptedTextInput id="txt"
width="200"
[code].....
I wahnt to place a container (alpha red) on top of my chart like on the image.How to get the x, y (point A), width, height of this area?
View 1 Repliesworking with Flex4 AIR app, using this component I get data from the barcode reader,
<s:TextInput id="barcode" enter="showBarcode()"/>
Then for handle the enter event, wich is automatically triggered when reader finishes its reading
private function showBarcode():void{
Alert.show(barcode.text);
}
Ok, very simple. But my problem is: the text showed in the Alert Box is incomplete, it misses one or two digits (last) or it just shows the entire text in the TextInput component (correct view)
I already test my BC reader using the notepad, and it's fine.
I have tested same code using MX components in Flex3 web app, and there's no problem.
I have an application with width/height of 100%. I have several nested groups within and their measurements are all not set, instead being defined as top=5 or left/right=10, etcI'm trying to get the actual with of a group that should be 390. I've set the swf object size to be 400 from the html embed code, and the group is inside another group that is width=100%. The group has a left=5 and right=5 so the width should be 400-10. When I display the .width and .measuredWidth of this group, the width is always 400.I'm fairly new to flex/flash. Do I need to have explicitly set widths in order to get the width of child containers? Is there something I'm doing wrong here?
View 3 RepliesI want to add search icon inside the spark TextInput control. Is there a way by which I can extend the TextInput control and add a child to it.
View 1 RepliesI have a mobile application that has a Text Input used for searching. Below the search TextInput is a StageWebView. When I set the source of the StageWebView using loadURL() the key input is shifted to the StageWebView. How can I prevent this?
View 2 RepliesI've got a custom component (quite complex so I can't post any code here, although that shouldn't matter), that I can add to a view. When the component is deleted from the view or the view is switched I call my own dispose method which removes remaining eventListeners and kills some references so that the component can eventually be nulled and collected by the GC.
All that works perfectly fine until I add a Spark TextInput to the MXML part of the component (it took me hours to find out what is preventing the component to be collected!), so I recon that the TextInput somehow automatically adds some eventListeners.
My question is what are these listeners, or is there anything else I haven't thought of?
I am using Flex 4.5 and I want to set the maximum characters limit according to the textinput width means if user enter more character then the textinput width it should not accept those extra characters.
View 2 RepliesI made a simple Flex mobile application to test TextInput fields. I define my View with width=height=100% and use vertical layout. Inside I'm simply placing static TextInput components with width of 100, 200, 300, 400 respectively.I'm also displaying the width of each TextInput in its text property and it shows values which I've defined. What bothers me is the actual width of the TextFields doesn't match the properties of the phone emulator I'm running (Samsung Epic WxH = 480x775) or actual device. For instance the TextInput with width of 400 completely extends past the left and right sides of the device, while it should be contained inside it: it's 400 pixels wide and device has 480 usable pixels available. So do all other TextInputs.
View 1 RepliesI made a Form container with few TextInput fields in Flex and I would like to change a style of clicked TextInput element. I managed to do it with MouseEvent.CLICK event listener but it is not what I expected. I would like to change style of TextInput when user try to edit that field. However, I want to change back to 'default' style when user clicks another TextInput field or outside any field. Is there some event listener made specific for such interactions? I have also a question, is it possible to make width of TextInput depending on amount of text? I mean to resize it to width of text inside of it? Text comes from some database and is always different widths...
View 2 RepliesI need to set the text of a spark label and then position such label along the x axis depending on its width. Unfortunately, it seems that the width of the label does not update right away and thus the positioning will fail. I can listen to updateComplete events on the label and update its position then, but that means repositioning the label a lot more often than I would like (updateComplete fires off a lot more often than upon changing width). how to properly handle what would appear to be a trivial task?
Here's a code snippet that shows what I described above. If you press the button you will see 3 traces: the label width before changing its text, right after setting its text, and when the label is done updating itself. Would love to know if there's a way to get the correct width without having to listen to updateComplete events... The button and the VGroups are just there to run the example

How do I set the individual button sizes in a Spark ButtonBar? It used to be something like[code]...
View 2 RepliesI am treating a spark TextArea as text input(by setting heightInLines="1"). The TextArea is part of an mxml component and I want to resize the component when the text is changed.
I haven't been able to use textArea.measureaText(textArea.text) to get line metrics and use it. I get this error "Parameter antiAliasType must be non-null."
Is there any way to get the width of a TextArea which it is going to consume at runtime for a particular string or a particular TextFlow?
in flash builder 4 how do i use the skinning option to make sure the popup dropdown list changes it's width to fit the longest item in the list?(the prompt area - the component when it is closed - should not change it's width)
View 1 RepliesI have been given the seemingly simply task of resizing a Group container by setting width and height explicitly in response to user interaction. However, changing these values have no effect on the size of the container at all. Changing scaleX and/or scaleY will change the size of the container just fine, but this is not the behavior I am after.I have tried overriding updateDisplayList() to set a specific width and height, but this has not yielded the desired results.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Group xmlns:fx="ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" ;
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
[code]......
This is what i have:
Main.mxml:
<fx:Style source="Main.css"/>
<s:TextInput x="72" y="95" focusColor="#CECB02" prompt="E-mail: "
skinClass="components.TextInputSkin"/>
[code]....
So, the "promptDisplay" in a computer(online) that does not have "Acens.ttf" installed shows the predefined one, but the inputed text is showed correctly with the embeded font!
I know this question has been asked before but the other solutions didn't work for me quite well. here's my sample application.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
[code].....
have a Spark TextInput control but I haven't figured out a way to make is auto-resize...Does anyone have any code to get started?
View 1 RepliesI am creating a nav in flex that pulls in buttons dynamically from xml. THe problem i am having is setting the button width to the text width. currently the buttons are all the same width and if the text is larger then it just cuts off. I've tried a few ways of doing this:Setting button width to 100%On creation of the button try to set the width of the button to the text programmatically. Something like evt.target.width = evt.target.textWidth;
View 1 RepliesIn the AdvancedDataGrid component, when you are in Edit mode in a cell, you can hit the Escape key to cancel editing (i.e. return to the previous value in the cell).I had expected the same behaviour while in Edit mode in both the Halo and Spark TextInput and TextArea components, and was surprised to find out that this is not the case.I looked at the attributes of all four components to see if this is something that I need to configure, but couldn't find anything.
View 1 RepliesI have an problem that i want to add textinput or Any Component to TextArea Component..
View 1 RepliesI am looking for a fairly simple image comparison method in AS3. I have taken an image from a web cam (with no subject) passed it in to bitmap data, then a second image is taken (this time with a subject) to compare this data, from these two images I would like to create a mask from the pixels that match on both bitmaps. I have been scratching my head for a while, and I am not really making any progress. Could any one point me in the right direction for pixel comparison method, something like getPixel32()
View 2 RepliesSo the real problem is the lack of an onReleaseOutside function. I found some examples of how to bypass this during a drag function but it was not applicable for a text input.The problem is that when a user selects some text in textinput and mouses off the application area and then mouses up, I'm getting a problem that the textinput keeps thinking that the mouse down is actively selecting text in the textinput and continually overwrites the characters being entered in the textinput. in the search bar of the live store on the page, type some text, then highlight it all and don't let up on the mouse until you are outside the store.I finally hacked some junk together so I can tell if the mouse goes off the stage using some code like.
var x = stage.mouseX;var y = stage.mouseY;if(x < 0 || y <0 || x >stage.stageWidth || y > stage.stageHeight)I'd like to just make the textinput stop thinking it should be highlighting text so that even if the user scrolls out of the applet and mouses up that the text input still overwrites what is in the search bar and functions as normal.
I extended a mx.controls.TextInput to create a custom component with a different behavior.I'm trying to set the text property on the keyDownHandler(), and for some reason it doesn't work as I expected. The text on the component just kinda ignore the change.I'm using Flex 3.6.Down here is a simple example code that explains what's going on:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" xmlns:customcomponent="com.test.customcomponent.*">
<customcomponent:TextTest x="20" y="20"/>
</mx:Application>
And below de AS class:
package com.test.customcomponent
{
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;

I try draw one pixel width rectangle in a sprite. And add some tween on it to make some effect. But I find use the code below can't create exactly one pixel white rect. I created I want to create
