Actionscript 3 :: Cancel Editing In Halo/Spark TextInput And TextArea Components?

In the AdvancedDataGrid component, when you are in Edit mode in a cell, you can hit the Escape key to cancel editing (i.e. return to the previous value in the cell).I had expected the same behaviour while in Edit mode in both the Halo and Spark TextInput and TextArea components, and was surprised to find out that this is not the case.I looked at the attributes of all four components to see if this is something that I need to configure, but couldn't find anything.

Is there more work, or source code files required to customize your look and feel (skins)?

How maintainable and readable is Spark relative to Halo?

Is it more productive and easier to customize overall than Halo, about the same, less?

If you're an SDK user who was 99% happy with Halo's appearance (maybe just a few CSS tweaks), is switching to Spark creating more work for you? Do we now need to employ designers to get a reasonably complete look and feel?

I have a Flex form made up mostly of MX components. Due to limitations with the MX mx.controls.ComboBox, I'd like to use the Spark control, spark. components.ComboBox. This works, except the Spark ComboBox sticks out visually because it doesn't use the Halo theme.Is there a way to have the Spark ComboBox use the Halo theme?

So the real problem is the lack of an onReleaseOutside function. I found some examples of how to bypass this during a drag function but it was not applicable for a text input.The problem is that when a user selects some text in textinput and mouses off the application area and then mouses up, I'm getting a problem that the textinput keeps thinking that the mouse down is actively selecting text in the textinput and continually overwrites the characters being entered in the textinput. in the search bar of the live store on the page, type some text, then highlight it all and don't let up on the mouse until you are outside the store.I finally hacked some junk together so I can tell if the mouse goes off the stage using some code like.

I might be taking crazy pills but has anyone actually gotten the errorSkin feature to work? I am not doing anything crazy, just extending TextInput (spark) and setting the errorSkin property.I have tried creating a skin using SparkSkin, did nothing.I have tried creating a skin using ProgrammaticSkin, did nothing.TextInput is always a red border. I know you can set errorColor and errorString but I am obviously looking to do more than just change the color of the border. I am compiling using Flex 4.1.

I have an issue with applying backgroundColor to a TextInput component in Flash. I have a MoveClip called LastLayer; in that Layer i designed the TextInput by using components.Now I want to add the background color for the TexInput. How can i add the background color? txtUser is the instance name for my TextInput component. I tried this code, but it does not work:

I have some textinput components on a masked layer. Once they become visible to the user, they can get focus by a user clicking on them (the input box gets highlighted with a blue line so I know it's getting focus), but they won't accept any input!If I change the layer from masked to normal it works fine.

working with Flex4 AIR app, using this component I get data from the barcode reader,

Then for handle the enter event, wich is automatically triggered when reader finishes its reading

Ok, very simple. But my problem is: the text showed in the Alert Box is incomplete, it misses one or two digits (last) or it just shows the entire text in the TextInput component (correct view)

I already test my BC reader using the notepad, and it's fine.

I have tested same code using MX components in Flex3 web app, and there's no problem.

I've got a custom component (quite complex so I can't post any code here, although that shouldn't matter), that I can add to a view. When the component is deleted from the view or the view is switched I call my own dispose method which removes remaining eventListeners and kills some references so that the component can eventually be nulled and collected by the GC.

All that works perfectly fine until I add a Spark TextInput to the MXML part of the component (it took me hours to find out what is preventing the component to be collected!), so I recon that the TextInput somehow automatically adds some eventListeners.

My question is what are these listeners, or is there anything else I haven't thought of?

I am treating a spark TextArea as text input(by setting heightInLines="1"). The TextArea is part of an mxml component and I want to resize the component when the text is changed.

I haven't been able to use textArea.measureaText(textArea.text) to get line metrics and use it. I get this error "Parameter antiAliasType must be non-null."

Is there any way to get the width of a TextArea which it is going to consume at runtime for a particular string or a particular TextFlow?

I have done lots of searching on this subject, but it seems what I am finding is either out of date or just does not seem to work.With TextFields in the past, you could set the TextField to a certain width, set wordWrap to true and you would end up with a textfield that changed height according to the text you added.Now I am trying to do this with either the Spark TextArea or RichText.I tried this HeightInLines = NAN, but that seems to be out of date.I also tried this routine:

But the mx_internal is not in the Spark components.I am trying to do this with AS3, not MXML.

I am using a spark textarea which has a dynamic feed from a database I am saving a template using TextConverter.export(editor.textFlow,TextConverter.TEXT_FIELD_HTML_FO RMAT,ConversionType.STRING_TYPE).toString(); and saving it via php its a longtext in mysql database. I am not using stripslashes or muniplating the text in any way and looking at the data in the database all the whitespace is still there.

When a users selects the template to bring it back into the textarea I am using TextConverter.importToFlow(repairedst,TextConverter.TEXT_FIELD_HTML_F ORMAT);

and all my spacing is gone.

The problem, as you can see, is that the text (height and width) is nothing like the Height and Width of the compoent (Spark TextArea) that I have set via the Main.mxml file in Flex 4. This is pissing me off so much because nobody can tell me why this is happening, or how to fix it. Text is dynamically added to the TextArea as people send messages in the server, hence the valueCommit line.I don't understand this, because I know it's not the fault of my fx:Script. I know this, because when I switch over to the Design tab of Adobe Flex Builder 4; the lines are just as messed up as in the screen shot.[code]

EDIT: To clarify, I want to auto-resize the TextArea when typing, so there's never a scroll bar.
