Aug 5, 2011I need to set the text of a spark label and then position such label along the x axis depending on its width. Unfortunately, it seems that the width of the label does not update right away and thus the positioning will fail. I can listen to updateComplete events on the label and update its position then, but that means repositioning the label a lot more often than I would like (updateComplete fires off a lot more often than upon changing width). how to properly handle what would appear to be a trivial task?
Here's a code snippet that shows what I described above. If you press the button you will see 3 traces: the label width before changing its text, right after setting its text, and when the label is done updating itself. Would love to know if there's a way to get the correct width without having to listen to updateComplete events... The button and the VGroups are just there to run the example

Dec 9, 2011I am trying to determine the height of a Spark label that becomes multiline at runtime (due to width property being set), to account for text overflow.
(For a spark label named Title) I have tried:
Title.measureText(Title.text).height - this seems to return only the height of one line. (Due to differing screen-sizes and font rendering, I don't know in advance how many lines the text would overflow to...)
Title.height - this seems to return the height of the label size (before being re-adjusted at runtime for multiline text flow)
Both properties above return an unchanging value even when different text lengths/multiple lines long are filled in .text
Is there really no way to determine the exact height of an overflow Spark label?
I am admittedly not that familiar with the Flex API but after scouring the manual for quite some time, I am still unable to place this title label with the proper spacing.

I tried myLabel.measureWidth() but this does not return anything usefull (it frequently returns zero). Feb 3, 2012I'm trying to use one great example of using SpriteVisualElement for item renderers from here:
The issue i have is it's impossible to detect the mouse click event when click points to the area of the renderer which doesn't have any child components. For example: if I click on the textfield, then it works and i see the mouse even dispatched. If I click on an empty spot on the renderer then no mouse event is dispatched. I've tried mouseEnabled=true (which is true by default any way) with no luck. I see from the Flex doc:
the click event is inherited from InteractiveObject. So maybe this has something to do with the focus (see the tread at the and of the page). Looking for an explanation why InteractiveObject behaves that way.

Flash :: Set Label Width Inside Itemrenderer For Spark List In A Liquid Layout?
Jun 29, 2011In a flex project that I have that is designed to scale 100% to the web window, I have a spark list. And I have a simple itemrenderer that takes the data and displays a name, and a message. Just think of it like a simple instant messenger display. The problem is that for my msg_txt label I want to give it a width thats the width of the parent list thats holding it.I tried turning the horizontalScrollPolicy to off, also tried width="this.parent.parent.width}" (as well as this.parent.width) for the spark label inside the item renderer. and in the label i tried some things like left="0" right="0" maxWidth="{this.width}" but nothing really does the trick.How can I make this label have a max width of the list thats holding it, AND make sure it resizes if the size of the browser changes and the list size changes?heres the list:

For example, if I set buttonMode = true on the Sprite, the label won't have the clicking cursor. Is there a work around for this? This is absolutely the simplest that I could make the example. The s:View is gobbling up my mouse events - if I add a handler in the MXML to the View, I get mouse events just fine. When adding a handler programmatically in my subclass' constructor, I get nothing. I thought maybe the layout was wrong, so I explicitly set the dimensions of my UIComponent and stuck it in a border just to be sure it was where it was supposed to be - same deal.
ActionScript 3.0 :: Child Label Re-triggering Parent Listener
Jan 25, 2012I am trying to create a project where I have a homemade button with a label component inside converted to a MovieClip. I have added an event listener, which triggers successfully when I move into the MovieClip, but retriggers when I move into the label within the MovieClip. Is there anyway to tell it to stop retriggering and act as a single MovieClip, or would it be simpler to break down and just try to customize the Button component?

With a button in the loaded swf I need to unload the loaded swf (where the button is) and navigate to a specific frame label in the parent .swf. I've tried to do the following in the key frame where the swf get loaded into I've put the following:

I basically want to first load the swf called "gallery_wonderland.swf". Then in the "gallery_wonderland.swf" there's a button called "contact03_btn" which I want to unload "gallery_wonderland.swf" even though it's inside the swf and navigate to the frame label called "Contact" in the parent swf.
What can I do I've done similar before and it works, but when I do it know and I click the contact03_btn it comes with following error message:

MC_Core_design was created in Flash and exported to Actionscript. I've done this for button_1 class aswell. The code was written using Flex. When I comment out both lines that result in error I get correct view of the core Movie clip with all subobject. How can I set subobject properties right after object creation?
ActionScript 3.0 :: Spark Scroller, Switch Focus To Spark View But It Still Scrolls
Jan 26, 2012I am working on a drag and drop feature for the sparkScroller. This is sort of how my layout looks:

So when you hold your finger over a row in the items Scroller for more than a 30 seconds, the touchView becomes visible so does the dummyRow. The dummyRow gets populated to look like the row which you held your finger over.
So the touchView has the event handlers for moving your fingers and places the dummyRow where your finger is. The problem I am having is even though the touchView is reacting to my move events, the scroller still keeps reacting to my move events as well even though it's a sub layer. Because I started on the scroller it still keeps track!
How can I remove focus / tracking from the scroller?
Flex :: 4 - Scroll Flex Spark Datagroup To Maximum Amount Programmatically
Jul 6, 2011I have a spark skinnable component which contains a datagroup with images. The datagroup is scrolled by hovering the mouse over it. Everything works fine except one thing: after I change the datagroup provider, I need to scroll down automatically. The problem is the images are not loaded immediately after I set the provider so (contentHeight - height) does not yet represent the actual maximum scrolling position. Is there an easy way of telling the datagroup to scroll down as its content loads? Because the workaround seems to be not so straightforward.
