Flex :: SpriteVisualElement Can't Take Mouse Input
Feb 3, 2012
I'm trying to use one great example of using SpriteVisualElement for item renderers from here:
The issue i have is it's impossible to detect the mouse click event when click points to the area of the renderer which doesn't have any child components. For example: if I click on the textfield, then it works and i see the mouse even dispatched. If I click on an empty spot on the renderer then no mouse event is dispatched. I've tried mouseEnabled=true (which is true by default any way) with no luck. I see from the Flex doc:
the click event is inherited from InteractiveObject. So maybe this has something to do with the focus (see the tread at the and of the page). Looking for an explanation why InteractiveObject behaves that way.
Is there some other simple method to redirect mouse/keyboard input from one object to an object behind it. I have used mouseEnabled = false where the object in front is only a UIComponent and it works. However mouseEnabled, mouseChildren=false is not working for an SWFLoader.
If I plan to implement 100 objects on stage to be listen to mouse and keyboard input, is using "function" call responsive enough? How good does eventlistner work?
I have built a form with flash cs3 and action script 3. The problem is that when a customer tries to use the form and clicks into one of the text fields it jumps back out! the funy thing is it only seems to happen after they have been to and viewed my gallery page which is xml ? I also changed the input fields from a component to a regular input field.
After about a week of arduous debugging and restructuring I've finally got my game engine to compile and run without any errors or wierd output. However, my control code, which I've moved almost untouched into it's own class, is failing to function due to events not triggering. It can be found at the bottom of this post, but I had to delete the contents of a few functions to make it fit in the char limit. The functions that are empty, aren't like that in the actual code, they didn't seem relevant to the problem. The important part to note in it is my block of addEventListener lines, flanked on either side by a trace message. Both of those traces fire successfully, so that would seem to indicate that the event listeners are being added fine.
The problem is that no events fire. At all. None of them. Keyboard and mouse input does not trigger the appropriate functions, I've tried traces just inside each of them, and they are never triggered.ctually, one event does fire correctly. The one that runs every frame. That goes perfectly, but the others do not.Is there any obvious flaw in my code that could cause it? Other than this, the entire application runs perfectly, without a single compile error and nothing in the output box except my traces.
I can't figure out, the Keyboard Input won't work until Mouse Button is pressed. Here's the code to the class I'm having trouble with. If anyone can see what's causing the trouble that would be great.
package { // Import necessary classes from the flash libraries import flash.display.Sprite;
I'm trying to extend the text input that comes in flex to support an icon, just like mac os x search text input has a grey circle aligned to the right, the text input has a addChild method, but it didn't work for me.
i'd like to create a single movieclip that responds to the same input (mouse click) in two different ways: if playhead is on frame labeled "one" go to frame labeled "two", otherwise if playhead is on frame labeled "two" go to frame labeled "one". i've tried if/else and switch statements with no success - what's a good approach to doing this?
I am trying to have two guestures on a SpriteVisualElement which I thought should be pretty simple implemented: Mouse_Move for sweep Gestures and mouse click to enable.. So I have 2 Eventlisteners on my stage:
[Code]...
The main problem is that every type of sweeping on the screen also fires the taphandler().. how to identify the correct event? I tried to to my taphandler only if(!event.buttondown) but no success.
I am looking to provide some UI functionality using the mouse- I have two distinct UI events to be achieved via mouse
a) change value b) delete object
I don't seem to have sufficient mouseclick events for both. I am avoiding using the right click as it has some default options(whose signing off will affect the whole project- not just this). I have mouse click used for change value- how do I use the doubleclick as the single-click events seems to get invoked prior?
im trying to output my database information in a text input field in flex by using remoteObject(cfc). The information is being provided by a database using a query and an array collection. I'm just unsure how i go about taking the queried array collection information and display it into TextInput Fields.
I am trying to find out how to continue to receive keyboard input to my app when the app is not focused. For example, if I dock my app to the system tray, is there a way to continue to receive keyboard input to be fed to the app?
I have an Input Text area that users can edit and then submit. I need to be able to show, on screen, the cursor's current position as they type. I don't need to know where the mouse is but all work-arounds I've found so far can only tell me the mouse position. The font for the text is 'courier' or 'courier new' and the Input Text area is scrollable.
I want to write a logging system to log errors but I want the format of the file to be binary. Can you write and/or read binary files in Flex 4? (actionscript to be more precise)
In my Flex 3 application the user enters IP addresses into a textInput object. As the user enters the numbers comprising the ip address I would like to add the '.' on the fly rather than waiting until latter, so that if the user types 127000000001 I would like the textInput control to display 127.000.000.001. I've been trying to make a class that extends textInput and adds the '.'s to the object's text property in the Event.CHANGE or Event.TextInput handler. Sadly, my extra '.' never gets displayed, the numbers appear without dots just as the user typed them.
I have a advancedDatagrid with column headers having input text boxes for filtering. The column is filtered according to input text when I use characters as data inside that column. But when I use numbers in the column field, filtering does not happen. Can anyone tell me what went wrong.
What I am trying to do is have a user input his data into multiple textboxes, then once the data is entered it is displayed on the datagrid at runtime. The problem is when I run the app I click my button but no information entered is added to datagrid. My textboxes are also supposed to clear once the button is pressed but again nothing happens. Here is my code:
Is it possible to have the value of some string variable bound to the text inside a text input control? To clarify, whatever text was entered into the text input would be stored as the value of the variable.
I am using an mx:DateField in Flex and it works nice with the date picker, but I also need it to be editable, so I set editable="true". The problem is that now the user can enter anything they want - even though I have a formatString="YYYY-MM-DD" set. The date picker honors this format, but if the user enters in the format MM/DD/YYYY they can - or they can even enter garbage data.
I realize I can set up a data validator to check that it is a valid date and in the appropriate format as per the flex docs, but I was hoping to have something I have seen in other languages where the text field would show something like "0000-00-00" and the user clicks in to the field and it allows them to change only the digits (the zeros) and can not type any alpha characters or add/remove any length.
I have a list control in a component mxml file. I have created a function in main mxml file, I want to input a text string and add it to this list. How can I do that. Currently using this code public function add(event:MouseEvent):void { var name:String = mytextinputid.text; currentState = 'ChatScreen'; mylist.____ } Note that this function is in main and the mylist list control is in component mxml.
If i have two or more input boxes to create a crossword puzzle, how can i make the cursor automatically jump to the second input box after the first input box is filled with a character?
i created an input text box that puts the users input into a global variable, but when i test it it gives me not only what i have typed in but all the html formatting for the font that my input text box has on it.I only want the text that i have typed in to go into the variable but the wackload of html is going in there too. ive tried a few different things, rewriting my code, recreating the text box, changing settings, dont know what im missing.
