I'd like to use a button within a component to remove it. So, you click it and the component is gone. But, I haven't figured out how you reference the component from within the component. What should I put in click=""?

I have a component "child" which has a cancel button. Now this component is placed in a state called "newChildComp" I also have another component called "parent". In the parent component, i have a button that dispatches an event. Here is the event code:

so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?
I have a problem with the Home button. I want to disappear content of the 3 UILoaders components that I have on stage.I try to use the method removeChild(UILoaderName) but it doesn't work. This is my code:

With the Flex 3 SDK you simply needed to set the borderThickness style to 0, or set borderStyle to none. With the Flex 4 SDK ad the Spark theme, this has no effect.

I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

I have two components. One is called "InsideComp" and one is called "OutsideComp". OutsideComp has InsideComp as one piece of its component, and in my main MXML file, I have embedded an instance of OutsideComp. More specifically, I want the width of the button to be determined by the width of the largest word in the label (i.e. width of "Elongated" in my example). The label must wrap, not truncate. And I want only one pixel between the top edge of the icon and my button's top edge. I have tried lots of things but to no avail so far. I have reduced the horizontalGap and verticalGap to zero and padding to zero. But still nothing.

I've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?

I am trying to create a custom component in flex that consists of a Button, and a TileList directly below that button. On button click event the TileList should open/close. The component works fine, but when I add it to my main flex app, inside a VBox, it simply opens and closes within the VBox. Because the height of the VBox is much smaller than the custom component's TileList, it causes scrollbars. My issue with it is that it should behave like a ComboBox/Pull-down menu and go over the VBox, instead of going inside it. how to overlay the custom component, so it behaves like a ComboBox/Pull-down?

I'm having issues with implementing a flex button componentI have applied a CSS style to button and set border-color to, say #555555.So far, it works as expected.Then, when my application is resized, the border of the button component becomes blurred and its width automatically changes from 1 pixel to 2 pixels, which doesn't look very well.hen I maximize the app again, after the border is blurred, the buttons' border becomes 1 pixel and looks nice.

Seeing as the Access database solution I spent 2 days developing won't work without a web server with IIS installed. I am developing a data storage solution binging my text input component directly to a dataset and hopefully storing the entire dataset using a local SharedObject.

How to disable the border so it doesn't show around the TextArea component? I've tried a bunch of things, like for example:

I want to remove the so called "HitBox/HitArea" on the RadioButton component - I don't want the user to be able to click anywhere else except the button - and I don't want to just resize the hit area so it's as big as the button (the hit area is a square, and my button is a circle)... can this be done? or does the button absolutely depend on hit area? Part of my reason for asking this, is when I publish my .swf with the radiobutton - the hitarea is displaying as a big white rectangle that is covering the button and part of the text up... why is this?
How do you remove the sound from "specifically" from FLVplayback component? Since the sound wont stop playing when I'm on different page(assume that if the person didnt click the pause button and navigate to other pages)....Normally I would add SoundMixer.stopAll(); for every button in my main and loaded swf but this will stop my background music as well....
The flvplayback component is located in another swf file and the code was added on the second frame of the movieclip call "scrollGroup"
